My heart goes out to all of you who have lost your dogs.... I have a male DDB and he is the most special dog I have ever owned... 3.5 years old now and still very healthy ( knock on wood ).....Without question the most loyal devoted dog you could ever imagine, you truly have to own one to understand.....

Hi - I fully appreciate what you are saying - our dogs never, never had tinned food, never had sweets or any form of junk food. They were always fed on Eukunbia, or Pro-Plan complete foods. When they became ill they went on science plan or similar. Freddie and Kane were born with heart disease (same breader), Doc and Daisy were born with kidney disease (different breader - but were brother & sister). We were just really, really unlucky, but I still want another one.
These as well as other dogs are dying at younger ages for one simple reason--their "food". It doesn't take long or very much time to research what goes into processed dog foods and that when you give them wholesome things to eat, their health improves. Check out the B.A.R.F. (bones and raw food) diet. When we switched our dog over, the food bill dropped, and the visits to the vet STOPPED!!

These dogs are so special only an owner can explain. They are the most personable, loyal, and devoted breed in the world. There is nothing like them. I really do hope they figure out all the health issues. I have had two that had heart disease that only lived to 2 years and it is heart breaking. I have a 7 year old female now and she is still very healthy even though I did have to replace her back leg which cost 4K. It was worth every penny and I would do it 100 times over. They are the best!!!
Hi - you have been very, very lucky, I have now had 4 dogue's, none have made their third birthday. I love the breed so very much, but until these big problems are sorted, which I have been informed is in progess, with Kennel Club, Cruffs and other officials. I have been told they will either become extinct or bred with another breed that is similar? However, Cruffs & Kennel Club are not having any of it - as they will no longer be fully bred Dogue de Bordeaux? Very sad.
I had a dogue de bordeaux and it was the most calm living thing i have ever witnessed in my life. But unfortunatley, they dont live the longest. Mine died at 11 and thats the longest i have ever heard.

Lost Kane in March 2010, I still miss him - so much - I feel sad that someone could have loved a puppy of 2 years so much, he was my mate and my shadow. I am so convinced this is now all caused by interbreeding, which is so,so sad , for the dogue and it's owners!!!!!! I trusted Kane with my grandaughter and I love her so, so much, she was 2 now 3, but used to wipe his gob, she insisted, big job, she loved him to.
@mydogcane1 I lost a lovely pair due to a really bad breeder! :'( One with such severe HD he couldn't walk and the pain killers didn't work, and the other had a hormone blood disorder that was shutting down her organs. I know how you feel, these dogs are such devoted and wonderful loving pets, It's been over two years since losing mine and it has taken me this long to source an incredible breeder and grieve enough to start again. I will be getting my new little boy in the summertime! :)

Haha! I have a male and female DDB and the male does that in the mirror but the female doesn't, like the female could care less whats going on in the mirror! I've owned different breeds growing up but I must say the DDB is my favorite breed by far, their looks, personality, loyalty and obedience are just unrivaled by any other breed, (in my opinion, of course)! Kane is just gorgeous!

The things i still cant get over is: the size of the males heads. and the strength of the dogs. Lets not forget the drool... lol

thanks for your comments on Kane - we had 2 dogues, Freddie was about 15 mths when we found out he had heart desease, Kane also has heart desease, he's 2. how old was yr dogue. I still miss Freddie and don't know how long I have Kane for - he's my baby and loyal friend

So sad on these great dogs having heart disease. We lost our Bordeaux to heart disease 3 months ago and now we have a new little guy. I pray he has a healthy heart!!! Best wishes with Kane!!

@mydogcane1 My last Dogue, Nugget died at 2yr's 2months from a Heart murmur. Apparently it's a really common disease in Dogue's.
Now we have another at 2yr's called Sherman.
