@rumpwrestler yes! what is it with high sopranos and big heads? you can see if someone is a singer if she has high cheekbones, is that what show a greater resonancespace??
@gadella1985 Tenors and sopranos always have big heads because that's where they center their sounds and that's where the high notes resonate. A big head = more resonance.
I would impart with any of my personal possesions to have been alive when Dame Joan Sutherland and Pavarotti were singing together at the top of their game...!!!! Alas we have lost two true and irreplaceable performers!
When she was having a good day, it wasn't just good, it was PERFECT. I was in a production of Lucia, once, and at dress rehearsal, she flubbed a phrase. Bonynge simply tapped the baton, stopped the orchestra, and said, "Now, Joanie....We've NEVER done it like that." Trouper she was, when she repeated it, it was absolute perfection. She was a musical machine. Brava Joanie.
WOW! I love her! It is such a thrill to hear such beautiful music sung so beautifully! The tenor is also wonderful. I also love the shadowy mysterious stage set.
She was Honest in Every Part of her Life including her Rehearsals.... She was an unwitting Diva in her own life much less in her Australian heritage. Her final performance was back here but what people are not checking here is that she was with the Amazing Tenor Anson Austin! Who sang me reverabations of love without even knowing.. but I said out loud in rehearsals for 'The Merry Widow' ... Red as a Rose for......etc
I thought Opera was sleepy but I found out it was MAGIC///////
On Dame Joan's retirement, Marilyn Horne said that even though we have many recordings, "...nothing could match the sound of that voice in the music hall". (Or something like that.) That made me want to hone my listening to great singers on video and record. "Thrilling" and "amazing"...man, do I agree...
So? She sounds a million times better here than the singers of today sound at their "best."

At least she keeps on singing until she finds her way again. Success in itself.
