@Carterofmars Well, it damages its electrodes, that's why i replaced the original ones with two bolts. It might damage it otherwise, but if so very very slowly, it's meant for twice the power i'm giving it.
if you simply discharge a capacitor with a short wire it explodes. what really happens? the wire turns into gas rapidly? or this happens on the edge and the other piece just fly away?
Why does this video get lots of view and comments and my jacob's ladder doesn't? It's not like this is any more interesting than shiny arcs of electricity! lol
@rafaelv161 1. The sparks don't last long enough to light even cardboard on fire. I've tried it. 2. Water on hand in case something does happen. (It won't be bad like water on a socket since all is discharged instantly.) 3. I've been doing this for years, don't worry about me. Thank you for your concerns and calling me 'retarded' for no reason.
@idiotAREstupid It takes 30 sec to charge, and you can think of the loud sound as a firecracker :D if you don't like the sound, you can use it in a container to stop the sound.
@idiotAREstupid Well, just be sure your not using it at a gas station with a natural gas leak after you just farted and spilled some rum and you'll be just fine.
@toyu17 READ MY COMMENT TO OUIMETNICK. If you mean how as in how would you charge one yourself, get a suitable charger (hopefully better than mine) and hook up positive to positive, negative to negative, then wait maybe 10-20 seconds. If your using a make-shift charger like me, you can brush the positive or negative lead from the charger with the same polarity electrode on the capacitor, and if it makes sparks, leave it for a while longer.
@pyrosparkerII read it , you should do a video on that.cause i know you can't charge to a simple dc battery.but i dont know how to charge it to an ac adapter.
@toyu17 I've charged this capacitor with batteries, but what i normally do is hook up the positive AC connection with a diode to the positive of the capacitor, and the bare negative to the negative..... That's the best way to describe what I do to charge it. It's not worth making a video about.
@pyrosparkerII simple batteries.i have a microwave capacitor 2100v Ac i try to charge it with simple batteries(stupidly) it did not work.what can i use to charge it?
@toyu17 I would try the highest voltage (Not high amperage) AC/AC adapter you can find that's not over the rated 2100v. Even a weak AC/AC adapter should work to charge it partially, just make sure it has AC output, and tell me how i works out.
@ouimetnick What i'm using currently is actually just an AC adapter with a large diode. It's all i had when i got this and its still the best charger i have.
What was the voltage ? :)
DusteDdekay 2 weeks ago
@DusteDdekay Did you read the beginning of the video? (50v capacitor half charged so 25v)

Does that damage the cap?

This one is 0,1 F and this big. Are there 1 F capacitors available to buy?

@Potew Yeap search supercapacitors
ExplosiveAnyThing 3 months ago
@Potew if you want more farads, check out ultracapacitors
the biggest ultacapacitor is 5000 farads and about 2 volts

@pyrosparkerII 30 second on how many amp?
idiotAREstupid 3 months ago
@idiotAREstupid somewhere between 500ma and 1000ma. i don't feel like checking right now lol
pyrosparkerII 3 months ago
@pyrosparkerII lol but it may burn you house with thoise spark
idiotAREstupid 3 months ago
@idiotAREstupid nah. the sparks are so short-lived that they dont have time to catch anything on fire.

@pyrosparkerII You are wrong!Try make that spark near something flammable like gas or alcohol or something like that

I wonder if that would make a good battery tab welder.
rocketman221projects 4 months ago
Now what do you use to charge this? with all that capacitance, don't you need a beefy transformer, and bridge rectifier?
ouimetnick 5 months ago
@ouimetnick What i'm using currently is actually just an AC adapter with a large diode. It's all i had when i got this and its still the best charger i have.

Do 50V next time. Twice voltage = 4x power.
BankaiIchigo12345 5 months ago
@BankaiIchigo12345 I don't have a good charger for it..... The one i have will only get it to 25v.
pyrosparkerII 5 months ago
And that is what we call arc welding.
Mariolover24 5 months ago
@Mariolover24 Actually I believe its called spot welding, which is similar to arc welding, but different, google it.
TheHungryturkey 5 months ago
@TheHungryturkey Yeah... arc welding is a constant flow of high amperage. Spot welding is this^

LOL the knife was stuck to it! Did the terminals fuse to the knife or something?
dickcheney6 5 months ago
@dickcheney6 The high amps melted the metal slightly and kind of spot welded the knife to it.
