Several schools in the San Diego area have instituted anti-bullying programs. One even had a contract which all students in a particular junior high school signed to prevent bullying, and to turn in other students who were bullies.

Now, if we could only have something like that here on Youtbe, and make it stick!

Youtube offers no means of reporting people. Yes, you can report spam, but you cant report abusive and malicious behavior. Then it becomes a matter of subjectivity... where do you draw the line between something said that happens to be offensive and deliberate offensiveness? We ought to be able to speak the truth without it being reported, deleted, and our account suspended. Truth is usually offensive and no one wants to hear it. Open discussion shouldn't be compromised.

Too lax of a definition, people will abusively report... or the youtube administration will be corrupted and enforce their own rules, or not, on their own whims.

All the while youtube only allows you to report (spam) on particular comments... or report copyright violations on video. But you cannot report individuals on whole for consistent bad behavior.

I recently got rid of a clone/hater who was not only copying my own account page (with a slant on hate) but also harassing at least one good friend of mine. I did so by using Youtube's new Security Center (under Help). The hater was taken care of and suspended in 4 days.

There is a distinct difference between frank, "open discussion" and bullying/hating. Frank and open discussion = "You're wrong because ___________"; bullying and hate speech = "You dumb bastard, go f***ing kill yourself".

At the AOA convention last month was a program on bullying. There is a huge financial costs from bullies to society. >25% of bullies have a run in with the legal system. Use taxes be used to help society not to incarcerate and prevent criminals from furthering their anti social behavior. Unfortunately, I think bulling will always be around. I think it is part of human nature, for some people. But all efforts to stop it are noble. I was bullied at the school bus stop for years, in the small town I lived, we started our own bus stop to avoid them, and the council ended up putting a shelter. Both of the main bully boys ended up in jail. Now I work in law and help people everyday. Funny the way things work out. Take care.
