  • This one had me in tears, I still do love Emma Peel!

  • Diana Rigg is one of the most naturally beautiful women of all time. The show went into the tubes after she left. She is the only one that could have carried-on after Honor Blackman left the show who, coincidentally, was the only other woman of the day on TV that could have possibly competed with Rigg for the title of The Most Beautiful Woman on the TV tube in those days. Both are still beautiful women in their 70s.

  • Tara King is hotter, but I like the older ones with Emma Peel better. Used to enjoy watching them on Friday nights at 10:P.M. "Umm, he likes his tea stirred, anti-clockwise"

  • Diana Rigg never got a final credit? harsh lol

  • Associated British Corporation later became...Thames Television.

  • You hear the old closing tag theme while Emma Peel is leaving, then the new theme with Tara King. The closing credits were with Tara King. The opening credits were with Emma Peel. Very cool. This show was like no other.

  • Diana rigg was my first crush

  • I always wanted to be john steed

  • The whole colour series of the Avengers was shot on 35mm film which is far superior to anything digital.

  • Not a patch on Mrs Peel!.

  • This transition from season 5 to 6 reminds me of classic Trek's opening 3rd season episode "Spectre of the Gun" (actually it wasn't the season premiere but it was the first one made for season 3 which is why shatner's long sideburns are skinnier at the bottom then they would be in later episodes) where in syndication it began w/ season 2's theme (credits blue cuz it's still season 3) and the end credits would show with season 3's theme (slightly different and used only for that episode)

  • It took time for 43 years and I find this..now

    Tara King could not ...

  • Nice to see she has the same good taste in tight leather like Emma Peel (check 1:22) wow! Still Diana, in full "Rigg" can't be beat! She is still the Queen Diva of the entire series...

  • *sniffle*

  • Linda Thorson I thought was just too clumsy in the fight scenes. D.Rigg was much more athletic and fun to watch when it come to doing stunts or fight scenes.

  • I was addicted to the avengers as a kid, like 11-12, got home from school and watched it on uktv gold. I'm not ashamed to admit I actually cried at this scene when she left....

  • the thing that struck me watching this was how Mr. Peel was a carbon copy of Steed.

the other jarring thing was going from the cool beauty of Emma Peel to the buxom daffiness of Tara King (though I do wonder what Linda Thorson would have looked like in the Black Queen outfit).

  • I remember this episode.....Diana Rigg was too big an act to follow, and 'Tara King' never filled the void..........

  • Linda Thorson later became another King - Rosemary King (previously Rosemary Sinclair) on Emmerdale. Very well suited to that role.

  • Linda Thorsen was in an Episode of "The Equalizer" filmed here in NY in 1988

  • Loved Diana Rigg on this show, which was very swank indeed. I think Minnie Driver would be an excellent Mrs. Peel in any Avengers television show if they remade it.

  • @Zippertheslipper - Actually the girl who played Miss Parker on The Pretender series would have been absolutely flawless as Emma Peel......too bad it never happened. She was Diana Rigg reborn. There were countless episodes where Miss Parker would be in her suit....pull out her gun.....and I'd be OH MY GOD! IT'S EMMA PEEL! The actress' name was Andrea Parker.....she also had killer legs......definitely has M'Appeal.

  • A very sad day for me when Emma Peel left The Avengers, it was never the same again. The interplay between Steed and Mrs. Peel has never been bettered on television although Mulder and Scully came a close second.

  • @larrydart13 Carter has mentioned that the relationship between Mulder and Scully was influenced by the chemistry between John Steed and Emma Peel. (X-Files, wiki)

  • As I keep saying, they didn't dare put the robust Linda Thorson into a leather catsuit for fear of all sorts of repercussions.

  • Mrs. Peel Hard act to follow, indeed..!

  • I never tire of Emma Peel and if I was Steed, I'd thrown myslf at her feet... probably tried to look up her skirt Lol and begged her to stay!

  • I didn't dislike Tara, and she was hot, but this (particularly Mrs. Peel's last scene with Steed right prior) was the saddest moment of my life watching The Avengers. Mrs. Peel to Steed: "Always keep your bowler on in times of stress, and watch out for diabolical masterminds." The 2nd part a term Mrs. Peel used on past occasions, delivered like only she could. Then "Goodbye, Steed", she kisses him and as she's leaving he says a rare "Emma"....thanks."

No way in Hell could Tara replace her.

  • Steed looks likes he's actually got a tear in his eye at the beginning of this clip. And who wouldn't? He's just lost the most gorgeous, intelligent, ass-kicking, secret agent ever as his partner. And look who he's got to replace her...some boring bird who can only knock blokes out with a brick in her handbag. Poor bastard.

  • Mrs. Peel finally got her husband back...and so Tara King became the new partner. I remember watching that episode...on TV...it was on at 9:00 pm, in the days before we had any kind of cable, or VCR's, or any other means of seeing it other than when it was broadcast...

  • yes 0:49 gave me goose bumps. Emma Peel gone, forever.

  • Diana Rigg was so gorgeous in those days. Interesting to note Linda Thorson was the only female Avenger not to appear in a Bond film (Honor Blackman - Goldfinger), (Diana Rigg & Joanna Lumley - OHMSS) and even the suave Steed himself appeared in Roger's last 007 movie - A View To A Kill.

  • @TRUMPER007 Diana still is gorgeous today! Her hair's just white now but still in great shape at 76!

  • @moxie96 76 / never she dosent look that old, she is still a gorgous lady

  • @moxie96 She's 72. Born July 20, 1938. Yeah, she's still good looking woman.

  • Peter Peel sure looked a lot like Steed, didn't he?(Chuckle!)I heard that Patrick Macnee was actualy in that small scene.Typical Avengers humor!

  • Does anyone remember the episode when Tara King had a Man in her Head Scissors?

  • Sad, the day The Avengers ended... Tara was Great, Beautiful, Talented and had a Body that approached unbelievable, but let's face it, Diana Rigg, as Emma Peel, John Steed's partner, just wasn't a replaceable item... Looking back, I'm just happy the years have been a better friend to me, then the woman who gave me prepetual hard-ons... God, in her prime, Diana Rigg was beautiful!!! She sure didn't age that well though...

  • @BadBopco What woman ages well anyway? :) No one does... including men. Unfortunately society places more emphasis on beauty/aging on women than men, so men look distinguished and sexy in their 60s and up and women are just plain wrinkled hags. Wrinkles on men are sexy (I can attest to that, as I am a gay male who finds older men sexier than younger), but unfortunately wrinkles on women aren't and I wonder if that is psychological and socially constructed.

  • @cjs33139 While that may remain one of our all time physcological questions, I just said Dianna Rigg aged very badly and quickly... If the seris lasted five years longer, they would have had to replace her, or she'd have looked to old for Steed, who was some twenty years her senior and looked it at the time... Sure we all age badly, but there are Halle Berrys and Kathleen Turners amoungst us.... She was a Kathleen Turner, the unforgettable Star of the Movie Body Heat, who became a Walrus.

  • The beginning of The End...there will only be one Diana Rigg...(and ne Adam West...one Curley Howard). No other show matched the Steed/Peel chemistry...they tried, but never came close. Never.

  • "She's Tara", The Real Romulans did a song about her. Must have been Avengers fans. They're on myspace if you want to hear it.

  • You know, I always wondered why Steed, Peel, or King didn't "cross the pond" to lend a helping hand to Batman or the Green Hornet for an episode or two - since all three shows aired on the ABC-TV network around 1966-67.

  • @jsrosa1282 I had a wacky idea once: Have "The Invaders" go off the air but the aliens from it would start to appear on other shows and the ehroes of each would, over a series of episodes, trace them down to some island headquarters where they would find Roy Thinnes kepts prisoner there and, in a final battle, defeat the aliens and save the planet. Anyone whose series was being cancelled or what leaving would die herorically in the effort.

  • TARA is WAAAAAAAYYYYYYYY HOT!! Big jugs.

  • Didn't like Emma Peel much, she was too snobby and stuck up. Tara King was better.

  • Damn.....I love this stuff.

  • How gorgoeus is tara at 1:04 to 1:06 ?

The sexiest avengers girl by far

  • If Patrick MacNee left the show, the show would be cancelled in a heartbeat. Because the show revolved around him. Sure Diana Rigg and the other laides were great and all of that. But IMHO, PATRICK MACNEE IS THE AVENGERS! Women or not!

  • without diana rigg no avengers anymore!!! she was the honey of the series!!!

  • diana rigg every time

  • Mrs. Peel off to become Mrs. Bond.

  • I'll take Mrs. Peel any day of the week

  • Two hot ladies. But I think Tara is a bit cuter. Amazing rack.

  • @drbotanus Agreed, Tara is hotter.

  • good day

  • Anglo Saxon-ess door # one. Vah va vuu-m!

  • Although many mourned Mrs.Peel's departure,I did think they gave her a nice sendoff in this episode.I also thought Tara was just as good in her way as Mrs.Peel was in hers.

  • The height of 60s sophistication - a mews Flat and an open top Rolls Royce

  • Is there any way I can get a version of this song with the solo trumpet part? I can't seem to find it anywhere on the net. This version seen here is far and away the best version of the entire series' run.

  • I love Emma, but I also love Tara King. Most of the episodes I watched growing up was with Tara King!!!!!!

  • stop it at 0:49 and just drown yourself in that lovely face. Oh god...40 years later and I'm still a 10 year old boy fantasizing!

  • My god you are so right.Good job i can swim-Going out tomorrow and getting the box set,Just to see her again.

  • Not just at 0:49.Look at 0:45 Now there i could drown myself ;0)

  • Oh hell, the whole damn thing! :-D

  • At 0:46 - God, she looks so beautiful.

  • I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who pauses this snipet to look at her face. She was my FIRST crush as a young boy....except for my 4th grade teacher Mrs. Shannon who btw had an uncanny resemblance. Go figure! :-)

  • @greenroadster I thought exactly the same thing.

  • EMMA PEEL > TARA KING

    always.

  • @JuliaGottlieb - Like I've said to others before, the sereis as a whole, yep Diana has to be the top girl, but honestly, from the moment I originally saw this first clip, especially with end credits,TK became my FAV. I wasn't always happy with the way they portrayed her,but she definitely had a lot of episodes where she's just as great as EP in my opinon. The Key difference I feel is that the production quality of the EP era was far more consistent. That's not to say TK's wasn't great though.

  • @JohnnySullivan I've never got into the TK episodes, but after learning about the harassment Ms. Thorsten got from fans, I'm willing to give them another chance.

Both Gale and Peel had extraordinary talents, but one can easily argue that King could be seen as more approachable, more what women actually were and could show her talents that way. Not all women have PhDs and are advanced in judo, but are strong in various other ways.

  • @sabinal17 Opps, looks like I replied to myself in the previous post. That's what happens when you don't get enough sleep. As far as their talents go, both Steed & Emma had to have started somewhere. And that's how I was looking at Tara .....not as the talented amatuer, but as the gorgeous but TALENTED ROOKIE....who just happened to be learning from the master. Sadly, I had hoped for more from this premise. Problem was....sometimes she was written well and other times not.

  • @JohnnySullivan - Linda Thorson,(and many Riggs fans will disagree no doubt) had the charm & ability to match Rigg's portrayal of EP. Sadly, it was the writting and production as whole that didn't quite match up as a whole, plus the horrid mistake of trying to make TK a blonde, and what it did to Linda's hair. And even though I freely admit that the EP era was better, my favorite episodes come from the TK era. (for examle: Game,False Witness,Forget Me Knot,Stand By,They Keep Killing Steed).

  • I still love the scene where Emma and Tara cross paths.

This is such a CLASSIC series!

  • I just found this by accident! The scenes here were used at the end of the Pretenders music video "Don't Get Me Wrong". Instead of meeting Tara King, he meets Chrissie Hynde

  • Oh wow I just realized I stir my tea the same way! Awesome!

  • As an 11 yr old girl, Emma Peel was my hero. I wanted to grow up like her & with her confidence.

Kathy Gale and Emma were Steed's equals. Tara King was Steed's subordinate not his equal. the working partners relationship with Steed change from Emma being Steeds working partner to Tara being romantically silly woman/girl hung up on an older man. Emma was practical when fighting the bad guys. Tara fought them in a mini skirt & stilettos. c'mon! IMHO it became mediocre TV with Tara.

  • That was a great close-up of Mrs. Peel looking back at Steed. Linda sure looked sharp-as-a-tack in the credits scene.

I wanted to grow up like Diana Rigg. I think I had a doll that was of her.

  • Love Tara King!!!!!

  • great show.wish it was still in reruns

  • I wrote once in an eralier post that I thought the Avengers credits (especially the Tara King era) were the finest in television history. I liked both Peel and King equally.

  • A dark day in TV history!!

  • Of course it is ! it had been a desaster!

  • I don't know why but I always hated Tara King. She was always annoyingly happy from Day 1 and just rubbed me the wrong way.

  • I remember when the switch over episode aired, TV Guide did a feature story on it. Mrs. Peel vs Tara King Sort of the British version of Mary Ann vs Ginger. Long live the first Princess Diana !

  • dr peel looks like charly chapman and steed does any1 agree?

  • diana rigg ademas de ser una gran actriz y ser fundamental en la serie, era una mujer bellisima y todavia estoy enamorado de ella...que sexy!!!!

  • I loved Tara King, I have seen all the episodes with Emma Peele and Tara King on reruns, Tara was my kinda girl!!!

  • Tara King was my favorite. And the End Credits here were my favorite of all the Avenger Credits....including the Openings. I frickin' love when she's putting on the lipstick with the revolver reflection!!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • To me it's not that Mrs. Peel was better, it's that the production and story quality was consitently great (the fact that Emma's a great character goes without saying).....where as the Tara King era had lots of great moments that were as great as earlier eras....but unfornately, it didn't do it consistently. Shame really. But it is what it is. Tara is still my favorite though.....even though my first introduction to the Avengers where the Emma Peel episodes. In any event, I love them both.

  • Mrs. Peel was the best, Tara King couldn't compete.

  • why was there a change anyways

  • Diana Rigg was leaving the series. They needed a new female partner for Steed.

  • Tara is all right but mrs peel is way better 4 steed

  • im only 13 and i luv this show

  • Who better to replace Diana than Linda? I enjoy watching both women on re-runs, they were both great!!!!

  • Seen all of the reuns with Mrs. Peel and Tara King. Never seen the one who came before Mrs. Peel.

  • Try watching some Mrs Gale epidoes from 1964. They're B&W and much darker than Mrs Peel's, but still very enjoyable.

  • Linda had Great Legs and those episodes of hers were really well written.

No one can replace Emma though, esp in America. Always felt sorry for her, being Canadian and all. Sexy girl, but hard to replace a Goddess.

  • Hell yeah.

There's a REASON Al Bundy called her Linda "We Couldn't Find Anybody Better To Do The Show" Thorson.

In all fairness, though, it was far less her fault than it was that of whoever tapped her for the show.

  • Linda Thorson is one of the classiest icons of the 1960s. She is stunning as Tara King and the rating proved the show was still a huge hit. In France Ms Thorson is a style icon and the most popular lady of all.

  • I never managed to see this episode at the end of the season in 1968 and now, FINALLY, via YouTube I get to see the ending! It's only taken 41 YEARS!! I was mighty frustrated to miss it back then.

You don't see enough of Mr. Peel to really tell that he looks "exactly" like Steed, which is what I'd always thought. He is dressed the same, of course.

It's very poignant to see Mrs. Peel leave. I would've been depressed if I'd seen it when it was first shown. Maybe it's best that I had to wait.

  • I prefer this closing Thorson ending, than the card tricks ending!

  • Is that a mews in Chelsea?

  • I have the Emma Peel DVDs and Forget-Me-Knot is one episode that I don't like to play because it's soooo depressing! I mean...the goodbye scene between Steed and Emma...you can hear a pin drop...it was that solemn. I feel as though I'm at a funeral!

  • I agree so sad when Emma Peel leaves, agree it wasn't quite the same after,bu tthe Linda Thorson scripts are very good,Tara'a grown on me!

  • yah, but its funny as shes driving away. its all good tho

  • These are probably some of the best closing credits in television history. Think about it, rarely do the producers do anything inventive to keep you watching through the end. A truly inventive show for its time.

  • Wonderful ending !

I always loved the stairway moment when they meet for the first, and last, time.

    Absolute great series.

  • Ah, Tara! The highest rated episodes in EUROPE with some of the best scripts ever and Linda Thorson is gorgeous!!!!!!

  • IF that was true, then why did THE PRODUCER tell her bye??? Linda Thorson. Even Patrick said the producers were not a nice bunch of fellows. The stories got more and more far fetched and had nowhere else to go. IT went down hill when Diana Rigg left. PLUS the best ones to me were in Black and White. Much depth and a true enjoyment, and great mysteries. Love it.

  • Linda Thorson really got a raw deal. the 1968 series wasn't that bad compared to the rest. If they gave her another season she would have really shined.

  • Absolutely - it's hard to believe she was only 20 when she did the series. Tara was a great fighter, beautiful looking with a great sense of humour and it really, Linda Thorson did an amazing job given all of the anomalies that were current with the final series.

  • UFOSPACE1999, that was interesting info, about Diana Rigg. When I (or anyone), thinks of The Avengers, one thinks of the character of Mrs. Emma Peel. She did for that show, what Steve McQueen did for the Ford Mustang, in Bullitt. She is the reason why the show is even still remembered. She doesn't get the credit that she so richly deserves. If she hated that show then with the series released on DVD, and if she doesn't get any of the profits off the DVD sales, she really must hate that show now.

  • Actually Diana Rigg was HAPPY to get off the show!!! HER contract was up, AND she didn't want to do this show no more. SHE hated the producers, who were NOT friendly to the woman on the show. AND Linda Thorson experiment didn't work either. For years Diana Rigg never talked about her experiences on the avengers. I watch her and steed in black and white and colour and thought they were excellent together. Great duo.

  • very sad moment....

  • I prefer the Tara/Steed closing credits here, than the card tricks ending.

  • Interesting contrasts between the two ladies! Emma had a wide range of outfits while Tara had a large selection of wigs as well as outfits. Emma usually fought hand-to-hand while Tara occasionally used props like a brick in her purse (this ep) or a champagne bottle (Noon Doomsday, my favorite Tara ep). Occassionally Tara used karate but not to Emma's degree. Still two legendary beauties for Steed to enjoy, the lucky blighter!!!

  • can some1 tip me where i can download the avengers?

  • Yes, you can "download" it at your favorite dvd shop, in dvd format, hardware included, for only a quid an episode. Hope that doesn't surpass your budget.

If we all would pay for our cherished (tv-)movies, prices would get even lower and the chance of old series being reissued would increase.

So next time you're in the pub, remember: one pint less = two episodes more.

  • Pause it at :50 and get a look at that face! WOW!!

  • Wonderful series and Linda Thorson was just gorgeous and still is,this still has great memories for me after 40 years, and i love it just as much now as i did when i was 11,back in 1968..

  • Diana Rigg and Linda Thorson, both just fantastic in The Avengers. I too grew up with them and loved the series. Ah ! The memories !

  • I agree with dougalmac54-I.E. Today's stars don't have near as much class, poise, grace, and sexiness like Linda and Diana. And with no nudity or gratuitous sex. That takes real talent.

  • This was just too cool a TV series ! I'm 50 and remember it well and miss these kind of shows ! Diana Rigg is beautiful and Patrick Mcnee dynamic ! CHEERS

  • I think Diana Rigg as Emma Peel and Linda Thorson as Tara King in Avenagers, both are great and beautiful eventhough still beautiful in today. I sent a roses to one each ..... wink.

  • because it was the show Diana Rigg?

  • w emma....tara boooooooooo

  • I like Linda Thorson a lot, but Diana Rigg is just delicious as Emma Peel. Today's stars don't have near as much class, poise, grace, and sexiness like Linda and Diana. And with no nudity or gratuitous sex. That takes real talent.

  • Thank you so much for showing this. It is a beautiful clip :)

  • i used to love emma peel, tara king was quite a shock for me at that time

  • My God was Steed a lucky man Emma and Tara are gorgeous!!!!!!!!!

  • In some ways i would a remake but don;t want the disappointment of how well they may have aged. Not sure. But a gathering of somekind where they toast we other would be nice....but that remake movie with Uma some years ago was absolutely terrible...but it would be nice to hear Patrick say, "Mrs. peel we're needed." :)

  • How about this for a plotline to reunite the original cast Cathy Gale Emma Peel and Tara King team up to investigate the disappearance of Steed

  • Yes that would have been a great idea for a tenth or twentieth anniversary of the series.

  • Emma is unique! No one like her!

  • Dianna Rigg should do a remake . The last remake was a disaster . Anna Ryder Richardson has the charisma and presence to do it as long as its got top notch directing and producing . Bring back the original crew if possible . Dianna Rigg reminds me of my ex ....a lot .

Yes Mr. Peel was M.I.A. and was a dead ringer for Steed . By jove I think hes got it ! This is the catch . To make you think ! And make Steed think ! This is what drew Mrs. Peel to Steed so much ! They were very much alike !

  • Does anyone else get this bit.lol Emma is driving away with her long lost husband who is a dead ringer for Steed. Wasn't Mr. Peel MIA as a Royal Marine in Africa? Does any one else remember this?

  • It says in the Forget Me Knot he was an ace pilot.

  • An RAF captain, in fact, who was lost in the Amazon.

  • Sorry I didn't read further or I wouldn't have made my earlier post. At least it's not just me who noticed.

  • I like Emma Peel sooooo much, she is sophisticated and high class but I love Tara too, she represent the incoming era, she's stylish but you can imagine her in a Punk rave few years later with her stoned face...

  • I love Linda, infact "the Avengers" was the first show to have one female lead hand the baton to the next one...and boy did she did a great job. We love you Linda!

  • What's scary is I just realised that Tara King went on to play Rosemary King on UK soap Emmerdale. She reckons she got killed off because of disagreements with the writers.

  • Emma in this episode is so sweet and charming. She touches my heart. Why did you left Steed, beatiful Mrs Peel?

  • Didn't Mr. Peel return and drive her away?

  • That's RAF Captain Peter Peel, and he was believed lost in the Amazon until he was found alive and his "wife Emma awaits." Am I the only one who noticed why Steed was aghast when he saw him from the window? They could have been twins!!! Emma, how COULD you??? Loved how she looked at Steed and then her husband and smiled! Priceless!

  • There is no modern "Mrs. Peel" there is only one, Diana Rigg. Unimitable in every way.

  • Come on I know that Diana Rigg is not replacebale. But Sienna Miller is brilliant, and she could be the avengers of the XXI century.

  • Absolutely no other Mrs. Peel but Diana Rigg! Remakes would be a disaster.

  • Rachael Sterling, her daughter is her double and is the only contender I can think of ... but who could play Steed like Mr Patrick McNee?

  • loved this episode. my two favorite girls passing the batton on from one to the other. linda did a great job with the scripts she was given. i will never forget the cute tag scenes between tara and steed they were great and these two were great together. linda did a great job and both actresses had great luck in theatre as well as television. a job well done by both of them.

  • Couldn't agree more! The tag scenes between Tara and Steed were among my favorite parts of the Avengers. I even tracked down the Laurie Johnson CD with Tag Scene on it as well as other Avengers music. Tremendous show..

  • is that cd still available. if so how would i get a copy. also did you ever watch emmerdale with linda thorson in it if so did you ever record any of the scenes she was in. if so would you be willing to put them on dvd for me at a fair price. linda was my favorite avenger girl and the shows of the avengers were great and forget me knot will always be my favorite along with game and many others. thanks

  • Sad episode when I was in my teens! Tara had her moments, but when the writers threw in her attraction to Steed as a component, the show lost its previous sophistication of two very sexy / sexual characters interacting without the obviousness of putting it in writing:

the EP episodes counted more on viewer intelligence. Plus, Tara was more "girly"; couldn't fight with the aplomb of EP, e.g. would use her purse as a weapon. But I did love Noon Doomsday and Have Guns Will Haggle!

  • Well, the show had to move on and Diana and Linda both played on well. Patrick is a cool dude. I would love to see a similar show put back on British television with Minnie Driver and Pierce Brosnan playing the parts of Emma Peel and Mr. Steed.

  • how come emma peel was replaced by tara king?

  • it turns out diana rigg wasnt treated too well while on the avengers. she later found out that even the cameraman was being paid more than her. they just didnt apprecitate how great the show was with diana

  • I didn't think you could come close to the chemistry that Steed and Peel had but Linda Thorson took it to the next level as Tara King. And they said it couldn't be done!!
