Desplat must be one of the most influential composers of the 20th-21st century. His ideas of "composing with color" lend an abstract, dissonant and utterly stirring character to all his pieces. I have never heard another modern composer with the ability to inspire the more tender emotions of sadness & joy, regret & love, and despair & hope with such impunity.

I can confidently state that nearly all modern ambient orchestral soundtracks will have some of Desplat's influence in there, somewhere.
