Texas Dolly doesn't respond when people ask for chip counts. Tons of pros don't. If you can count, then figure it out yourself. Totally, totally normal. You don't have to talk if you aren't comfortable talking during a hand.

For me, if people ask how many chips I have left, it kinda implies that they want to eliminate me for some personal reason just because I'm in the game. If you're planning to raise or all in the person, you quietly raise, regardless of how much other person has. When people ask me how many chips I have, that shit pisses me off. This is why I never ask other people how much they have. I simply look at their stack and estimate it.
Maybe respond "I don't know exactly, would you like the dealer to count it down?" -- it's honest, accurate (who knows "exactly", right?) and it doesn't sound like you're being an a-hole.
