  • I think he says 'To the c*nt that threw the ??? at me, I'd like to rip his f**king arms off. If you're French, go and f*ck yourself (translated)'. Not sure what was thrown at him though.

  • @SwappingIsSaving

Sounds like he's saying "mud" if you ask me.

  • Fuck it will do it live

  • it's a pitty sting was so self obsessed. I saw them at this same tournee. pitty I did not learn the lesson then and I'm still self obsessed too.

  • OH SHIT! He called Larry.

  • What do you mean "gets spit"? He got spat on?

  • @UMpt835 I didn't see any spit.

  • I bought this VHS (Police Around the World???) in the early 80's. I need to dig it out and see if it will still play.

  • What an awesome band. Sting is a legend

  • I think it's pretty cool how sting can hold down the bassline, sing the song, have an argument and talk to the security all at the same time.

  • 0:49 Mr. Copeland check the time

  • GREAT band!! Replace Copeland with any other drummer....AVERAGE band! Sting thought he made this band. He was wrong!!! Stewart Copeland is a drummer GOD!!!

  • @vf74tomcat Disagree. You can't have the Police without Sting. But you also can't have the Police without Copeland.

  • @YouLikeBosch Nowhere in my comment did I say get rid of Sting. I still say Sting didn't make this band. All I'm saying is Copeland made this band GREAT. Another drummer and they are average. Even with Sting and Andy.

  • @vf74tomcat They ALL made this band great. Andy's signature atmospheric guitar tones making musical texture and Sting's awesome voice, bass playing, AND songwriting giving Stewart great material to work with and adapt helped a great lot. Stewart is amazing, but being one of the greatest bands of all time requires all of the members to be amazing in their own right.

  • @satchvanjohnson41 People still taking my comment out of context. My point is if you replace Copeland with another drummer the band becomes average. I NEVER said to replace Sting or Andy. My comment about Sting was that he thought the Police was really him and a backing band. He went solo based on that assumption and IMHO was NEVER as good by himself. The Police were one of the greatest bands ever and the parts never will be as good as the sum of the whole.

  • I recognize the stage and camera angles. This must have been at the 1980 Frejus show that was filmed for "Urgh! A Music War".

  • Copeland is REALLY working for his money. hehe what a drummer.

  • Ok fess up time! It was me at that gig doing all the spitting....we woz punx man!!

  • LOL look at sting face!!!! Death look. I thought he was going to jump off the stage and kill the guy. The song speeds up so sting can go kill the guy afterwards.

  • LOL the song speeds up like hell and sting looks like hes going to kill someone.

  • am i the only watching copeland and not sting? hes a fucking beast!

  • Sting trying to be hard? What a laugh

  • @pcaminador1 Sting was hard. He was a Geordie psycho according to those that knew him. A real hard nut.

  • I love the sound of that bass!! it really defines the song

  • You have to love how Sting keeps it together and stays cool playing tell the end of the song. I bet he wanted to jump into the crowd and kick his teeth him but he is such a pro he plays tell the end.. What a great clip.... Thanks for posting. Long live the Police around the World VHS!!!!

  • Man, they were out if key bad... Copland was always a little fast live, but defiantly added energy live. He's one if the greatest drummers who gets credit, but not as much as he deserved

  • all you guys that are defending the mud throwers or spitters or whatever the fuck they were. Put yourself in stings shoes. ego or no ego, nobody deserves to ever have mud thrown at them let alone while on stage, trying to entertain thousands of people. If there's one rotten fuck who's goal it is to ruin the show, he/she should be singled out, humiliated and then kicked out if identifying them is possible.

  • did the french guy surrender

  • I am a total Police freak, but I really get sick of Sting's sickening ego and his phony toughness. He's the reason I play fretless bass, but I really get sick of the guy.

  • @pazzensutra

It's egotistical of him to get pissed off due to that fruitcake throwing mud at him and spitting at him?

  • faster stewart!!

  • they're hauling ass on the tempo geez- and that was hilarious lol fucking bastard! sting's gonna get you!

  • man, stewart copeland rocks.

  • It wasn't spit... it was mud.....

  • Poets, priest and politicans I'll fucking kill you cunt

    hahahaha

  • @SilentBombr I think he says in this version "Poets, Cunts (pointing at the guy obviously), and Politicians" which makes it even funnier.

  • Best drummer ever!!!!HAHAHA,they realle liked cociane to much,so fast.......!

  • The music is perfect and the vocals are fantastic, but I think the dude spitting and throwing mud at Sting kinda ruined it for teh audience

  • go Stew!!

  • at 00:20 he says "Vaffanculè" which is actually a funny and original french-ization of the italian curse word "Vaffanculo", which means [F-word] Off.

  • first time since 1980 seen this .. i recall a big bouncer could be larry .. held this guy whilst sting bent forward to flob in his face ... also a bit of kung fu occurred in the arena too .. crazy rearranged gig from a total washout the previous night .. organized by radio monte carlo.. 50 francs a ticket .... skafish xtc ub quarante.. and of course a drink for the pianist ..well maybe a bottle or two thrown from the crowd..

  • dont forget that this happend because somebady trhow ice to him...

  • Sting's checking around for his soldiers; not even Larry's clocked it. He truly shows his hard worked for professionalism by continuing on with little disruption. Just because he's ex public/grammar school, doesn't mean he can't kick off.

  • Still perhaps my favorite version of any Police song. Great energy!

  • it was guy he smacked with the neck of his guiter, not a woman.

  • Amazing how Sting managed to stay in tune with the other band members while picking a fight with a "French fuck-up" in the front row!Too bad this magnificent energy-hatred has faded away but that's quite obvious because hey, let's face it, they've grown nearly 30 years older.

No other band plays as raw,as pure and as fast as they did way back here in 1980 and I truly feel sorry for never having seen them perform live in that era. Fantastic band!!

  • @mr867749 No other band plays as fast? try The Jam.

  • @mr867749 Well, I did see them perform in that era. It's just that there were so many bands that played at least as raw, as pure and as fast as the Police. Bands who even didn't notice they've been spat at.

  • I love how Sting just kept playing. He didn't stop the show when he was mad, unlike Axl Rose who whines like a 5-year-old after shit like that happens.

  • his bass went out of tune from wacking it on that cunt in the crowd

  • I like Sting's cool foot work!

  • "the cunt that threw the mud at me, im gonna rip his fucking arms off" he gets his secuirity guy to get the guy then spits on him, and hits him with his bass.

  • You nailed it, brother!!! BEST Police tour by far!!!!!!!!!!!

  • As far as Sting not being able to fight, I read that as a kid he was rather tall for his age and all the older kids wanted to fight him, so he learned to fight early on and fought his way through his youth.

  • I saw that British hate in his eyes... Any one else see what I mean?

  • see what you mean, just the sort of comment a french nancy boy would make

  • This must be very early Police. The Punk residue and anger hasnt completely faded.

  • @bodiezoffa

Not that early, this can't be earlier than 1980, where they were only semi - punk in 1978. They were only completely punk in 1977, and 1978 before their second album came out

  • @blackhamster1009 Actually I thought they were 1/4 punk between 76 and 80, 1/2 punk until 81, 3/4 punk until the summer of 82, and went totally punk free on the synchronicity tour.

  • @bodiezoffa - I'll clear it up for you

    1976 / 77 (pre Outlandos d Amour) - Completely punk

Outlandos 'd Amour - About 3 /4 punk, but very punk when live

Reggata de Blanc - More of a jazz fusion album, but when they played live, still punk

Zenyatta - Punk begins to die out, kind of ska - ish

Ghost in the machine - start becoming new wave, punk free

    Synchronicity - New Wave

  • @bodiezoffa it cant be older than zenyatta mondatta so its 3 albums into their career

  • come on! sting spits on some guy (maybe "the fucking bastard"?) and after that try to hit him with his bass.

    Did you saw it too?

  • This concert was held on August 28, 1980, in Fréjus / Les Arènes, France. Some guy in the audience threw mud at Sting, and Sting got pissed. Here's where I got this info from:

    Rogier's Police Page

  • was sting on cocaine?

  • Sting looks tough, but i get the feeling he couldnt fight his way out of a paper bag.

  • I'm sure you're right, but if you were him would you want to risk fucking up your hands?

  • he runs 10 miles a day

after stewart cracked his rib on tour, he started working out

  • JesusChrist5000 youre wrong, Sting had to fight his way through his youth. Just because someone doesn't show they are a prick, doesn't mean they can't fight. I've seen a lot of silent guys destroy someone when they are pushed. Sting is very tough

  • you are probably right., rock singers are at the very least psychologically strong and tough. Now on the other hand, actors... actors can't fight their way out of a paper bag.

  • JesusChrist5000 lol, I guess it depends on the actor. For instance Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson, and Gene Hackman are known tough guys and I'd hate to be on their bad side. Steve McQueen was a student of Bruce Lee's. Gene Hackman was a military man always in fight, and well we all know not to mess with Mr. Bronson.

  • @JesusChrist5000, I agree. The bad language was nothing but hot air. If he had touched that guy, he would have been facing a lawsuit.

  • @JesusChrist5000 I get the feeling he would kick the shit out of you :-)

  • @JesusChrist5000 Sting is a faggot

  • @JesusChrist5000 :he could kick your ass little shit.

  • why does he get pissed? LOL

  • If I was that guy in the audience, and I heard Sting call some guy named "Larry" (Probably a 250 lbs tank/bouncer) I'd get lost post-haste! LOL! Great Great perfomance!

  • Comment removed

  • Also saw them in amsterdam. They're still quite good, but ways from their orginal - pure- quality

  • I mean my god...who goes to an concert and spits on the lead singer when at that time the police were world famous....very ignorant....fans should go to concerts to listen and enjoy the music, not cause an scene!

  • Aww man I went to their reunion tour in vancouver (both the may 28th and 30th shows) and they were good, but nothing like what you see there. None of that energy is left, and sting is now too civilized! :)

  • @stingelf

Shit! tell me about it! That wife of his neutered him! He used to be such a tiger, now he's a pussycat. :(

  • a stupid french guy that is jealous of course
