Im in my promised land,im married to a beutiful african girl, she makes me feel special every day,my evil step dad is gone and my mum is my mother again, all i need is the pitter patter of our first tiny chocolate feet to complete my life fully, but i still feel like im being a bit greedy in asking this!
My dad use to play this all the time when I was a kid. Typed into youtube "where are your people no" as I didn't know what it was called and found it! :)
I first heard this when i was 10years old, dragged away from my dad and school mates,by my mother,to a land far away,to appease her lust of a new begining and a new life, this was on a cassette tape i found,in my new bedroom, in my new unformiliar house,i popped it in my walkman and this song burst into my head, i cried;i held on to this song for my life,it was my salvation for many a sleepless night,i rewound it again and again until i fell asleep, always dreaming of that promised land, tQ ub40 x
@sivheedno1 !Only 4 likes?? I'm in tears here! Some good came of your sad situation; you got to hear and love this pre bloaty pop UB40 classic. I hope you have since got to hear the rest of their early stuff, priceless, and a lovely reminiscence of my own youth tho I was 18 or so, working right in their home area of Moseley, Brum.
i thought it was instrumental at first coz of long introduction. i think "Demonstrate" from “BAGGARIDDIM” is good track. i wonder they became famous with the cover of Elvis...
to northman061.I used to live on Uppingham road Leicester many years ago,I bet we were in the same shop at the same time lol I agree with your sentiment. But all rebels can be silenced with cash
I bought this album the day it was released (did not realise it was just out), as i saw it when i was out in Leicester and when i got home, i found it had a free 12" limited edition single in it !! Bonus :-)
This and Present Arms are without doubt their best work. It seems that after this, the dirty world of commercialism had them in its vice like grip.....I recall "red, red wine" with a cold shudder.Brrrrr.
A classic song from their best album... I would very much like to see this band play live, but I cant! Signing off was always my personal favourite... after their 1981 album Present Arms it all became too commercial for me. This does tower above songs like Red Red Wine...
@TheGreatElke1980 wow my dad says the exact same thing to me everytime we listen to ub40... never listened anything after present arms from them except red red wine ofcourse still wont ever compare to this piece of genius
Message to Mr King- if you're looking for 'your people', you can find then all over YouTube rapping shit about being ganstas, toting AKs and abusing their 'ho's'...
in 2001 the mixed race was acknowledged in the Uk. Children born into intercultural relationships, born in the age of the musical warriors, now we understand there is only I and I, there is only one pure race "the human race" and yes it very mixed.
You had a dream of a promised land. People of all nations walking hand in hand But they`re not ready to accept That dream situation,
Saw UB40 perform live in Brighton on Sunday night - they were still absolutely superb (despite Ali Campbell having been replaced by his brother Duncan) and performed the entire "Signing Off" album from 1980: a defining record of my youth. Happy memories.
im 25 and remember when mum used to listen to all these classic UB40 tracks in the late 80's and early 90's, i strongly agree with paulp04 regarding the older tracks that are so much more better and have gotton better with time - still most of their 90's stuff was good stuff! its all about change change change but some things are best left as they are me thinks - this has to be my personal fav, such a bad track but also v. sad at the same time, always hits me when i hear, proper stuff this!!!!!!
I played this when Obama got in. Thinking of the scandal of the numbers of young black men in prison in the U.S. A deeply racist society that presents itself thru film and tv as otherwise.
This is hands down my favorite UB40 song. So chill and so sad all at the same time. Beautiful. I hope we're ready to accept that dream situation now, all of us together.
King, where are your people now ? Chained and pacified. Tried in vain to show them how. And for that you died. You had a dream of a promised land. People of all nations walking hand in hand But they`re not ready to accept That dream situation, yet. King, where are your people now ? Chained and pacified. Tried in vain to show them how. And for that you died.
early ub40 were the best. I remember seeing them at a newsagents in Small Heath not long after they became stars. Funnily enough I had just signed on (using my UB40)
loved this remember this in 1980, king, earth dies screaming and food for thought, were my favourite, has lots of atmosphere.. makes you think of 1980 ..
