Cool video. I fully appreciate your interest in the CRT screen matrix. Years ago, I did similar experimental footage with a VHS camcorder. You get an infinite reflection effect, as with two mirrors facing one another. Then, if you rotate the camera about 270° and zoom in, the images spiral and pulse kaleidoscopically. Anyway, I finally viewed your video, and enjoyed it very much. Thanks for sending it my way.
Wow. The whole analog CRT orthicon/kinescope medium, now nearly extinct, has been such a rich source of wild video effects, things that could never be conceived had we started from digital ab initio. All the weird artifacts of this medium made possible some great art thriving in the fringes of the technological limits. Great tribute! Great work!
Past memories of an analogical beautiful world, too much digital today but the analogical seems untouchable, Bravo it's inspiring 5***** cheers, Yorgos
...Just loves your TV tube aesthetics edits ! and this kind made a part of my style too, so that's why i'm always keeping an old tube TV to get inherent imageries from. BTW, enjoying this real good third DETOUR piece you've made here ... but why did you upload an excerpt only ? ... you must know that you can go more than 10 minutes long now *
@fancynot I did hear about YouTube extending their running time limit but not to the point of allowing features except for corporate partners. Also, I kept it to 10 minutes because despite YouTubes relatively generous upload file size limit, I discovered that this piece does not respond well to compression so by keeping it short I could concentrate on quality (whereas Vimeo has the full version but it doesn't look as good). Thanks again for watching and for your feedback!
Excellent Mike. I should say it's a moving art painting, full of colors and shapes following a strict line direction, which produces an internal order, calmly touching the soul, in a mysterious way ! I added it in my favorites ..
@alaouda excelente tanto es asi que lo incluyo en mis downloads para ponerlo en mis sesiones de visuales en barcelona que te parece? me das permiso??? mikecelona???
Thanks for posting. It's hard to tell whether the video attracts or distracts me. But it has the value of being different from what I usually watch and hear.
This is a performance piece, on the monitor it is too confining... this baby has a lot to offer and needs to be seen large scale so the viewer can get inside it... i'd love to walk into a gallery and see this on the wall, good work!! bravo
Quite impressive work. It's good to see people working on visual art like this. It's something I aspire to myself. This a good source of inspiration to me.
It would be great to see this in an installation. I always wanted to do something like that where I'd project the images onto multiple layers of scrim.
Okay, just finished the preview. Feeling a bit brainwashed. In a nice, colorful, calming way I suppose. Don't know if I could make it through the full-length. Maybe on the right day. You've obviously seen countless hours creating it. Have you viewed it beginning to end yet?
@evike71 Yes, I have watched it all the way through a couple of times plus as you mentioned all the time I spent making sure everything was the way I wanted it to be. I agree that it is a lot to take in but while I encourage anybody willing to watch all of it to do so, I actually envisioned this an installation where people might walk in at a random part of the longer video, watch for as long as they like and then move on to something else.
@evike71 I was also hoping to enable viewers to 'scrub' the video with the playback marker the way I did with Detour 1 thus bringing the project full circle with an element of audience interactivity but unfortunately neither site lets you do that sort of thing (yet). Maybe someday in the future ;) Thanks for watching!
