New Orleanians have rebuilt in spite of the buffoons foisted on us by government at all levels, personified by the self important dilletante Ed Blakely. We did it TOGETHER, black and white, gay and straight, Asian and Hispanic, rich and poor. We had the help of volunteers from all over this country. We are fairly open about race, including our arguments, like family. This is different from other places where racisim seethes behind the closed doors of hypocrites.

Mr. Blakely proves his credentials are a bookish display masking his ignorance. If he was such an erudite scholar, he would know that making such incendiary generalities is a lazy response to the complex character of N.O.. Nagin shows his ineptitude in hiring an inept agent who, baffled by a situation he doesn't understand, resorts to throwing out the R-word, because he is too lazy to do the work of real communication or problem solving. Learn to listen, not just lecture.

I am from New Orleans. We hired the wrong man. We needed someone to lead. To cut through the red tape and start renewal. He did nothing. He led no one. Do you know what Ed did in NOLA? He rode his bicycle through destroyed neighborhoods. That is when he was in town, which was not often. The government paid him $100,000 for his part time "help". We could have gotten a 6th grader to do what he did for the city. PATHETIC!

I've lived here for a few years now...and people here, at least in the white collar sector work hard as well.
