"Little Queenie" and "Oh Carol" are good but a little too laid-back...the band rocked more on the '71 tour (71-72 was probably their live peak...in '69 they were still getting their footing back from a two-year absence). "Prodigal Son", however, is exquisite.
Wow, this performance of "Prodigal Son" is fantastic. The Glimmer Twins at their best. I've seen the Stones two times live and there's just no topping them. Thanks for posting!
f'n good song but the director focused too much attention on mj. he should have shown the full band. i'd love to see all them guys jammin' the fuck out that cb song, man!
I know The Maylses Brothers filmed the whole tour. I wonder if there is a ton of film in the archive that we may see one day? I hope so. Just the whole Altamont concert would be interesting with all the other bands.
I've heard they will be re-releasing "Get Yer Ya's ya's Out" that will include the entire concert (not sure if its only from one date or all of them). Perhaps there might be a DVD as well?
as a matter of fact there was more than one release of the film. what is now in circulation is missing some great music & footage, mainly related to mt. first song of the concert contains the best version of jjf ever - due to the most devilish slide fills by mt you ever heard. gone now.
Saw the Stones on this tour in Chicago in '69 where Chuck Berry opened for them. I was surprised how good of a guitar he was when he wanted to be. As much as folks wanted to see the Stones, they didn't want to let Chuck off the stage.
My parents took me to see Chuck Berry when I was about 10 yrs old and wish I was old enough to appreciate what a legend he is. I loved how it was just him, his guitar, a back up band who I don't even think was his band, and that was it.
. . .ummm, well Keith is Way outta tune on Prodigal Son though! Ick!!!
As far as Chuck goes. He seems to care nothing about his music and everything about his money. Plays with pickup bands and has no guitar tech, which saves him money but results in a less professional performance for the audience.
Ummm. . .better at What? Keith's written Alot more songs than Chuck, and I personally think 'Wild Horses' is a better song than anything Chuck's written, though Chuck wrote some really iconic rockers and originated a guitar style. As a live player. . .well Chuck is sloppier and less in tune than Keith. I suspect that he just doesn't care, and may have contempt for his audience. Other than that, he's great! Lol.
great clip of the stones 69, while mick jagger dancing around, like it when you see bass player bill wyman standing still while playing his bass guitar and does,nt move , love the clip
When I was a lttle kid I called the Maylse's brothers office and asked if I could watch all the footage taken at the Garden. A rude woman told me "No, that is not allowed!". Anyway, I've been in Madison Square Garden many times and this was one of the first concerts there. I think Cream was the first. The Stones' stage was so small. The sound at the Garden is terrible even today and I'm amazed they sounded so good. If I could go back in time for only one show, it would be the Stones Garden 69.
MJ-wanted ya ya's to be a double lp-with the other acts on 1side -but -someone said no-it would of been great to hear BS-played 1st for the very 1st time on this tour -they did it -ALT.WOODSTOCK WEST
I don't have a good enough stereo system to really hear Wyman that good but after he left Stones I noticed a difference. You are so right, one of the greatest bass players of all time no doubt.
It's too bad that the video of Little Queenie stays on Mick, Charlie & Keef for nearly the entire time & doesn't show Bill Wyman. Put on your headphones & listen to the bass lines of one of rock's greatest (& in this person's opinion, most underrated) bass players ever...
He really was great. And those Ampeg cabinets sure did (and still do) produce great sound. They're really strong on the low end. I can only imagine what they sounded like live.
he ends it early because he couldnt get his 6th string in tune (the song is in open E tuning). you can actually hear him trying to tune it up through out the song and gave up b4 the outro.
where did you get this amazin footage?
greetings
