  • This is in stereo, and therefore must be from Merrill's London/Decca recital from the 1960's. Magnificent singing!!

  • Sounds like Merrill's recital album for Decca/London circa 1962.

  • The best!!! What a great voice color!!

  • Anyone know what year this is from?

  • @Belcore14 This is actually from an album of excerpts from DON CARLOS recorded in November/December 1950 at Manhattan Center in New York City by RCA Victor, not long after the premiere of the Webster/Gerard production of the opera which inaugurated Rudolf Bing's tenure at general manager of the Met. Renato Cellini conducted this album of excerpts; I know that Jussi Bjoerling and Italo Tajo were also in this recording, and I THINK Nan Merriman, as well. (Soprano? Maybe Rigal or Steber.)
