  • can you also use this cart for savegame files from sega mega cd?

  • It so annoying when people mention BITS... we are in 2011 and Kilobytes, Megabytes and Gigabytes are the way to go

  • @andree1991 Yes but all the old cartridge based games back in the day advertised in Megabits not Megabytes.

  • @andree1991 Yeah...right but there is a small diference between bits and bytes

1 byte = 8 bits so as you can see there's some diference it would completly change the values of the system imagine 10 megabytes = 10000 bytes then 10000 bytes = 80000000 bits its a fucking mess in the head so as u can see is a big diference after all ! :p and by this calculous we can see that scientists in computer science have to be precise with their math specially in linear algebra !

  • what the hell is a megabit? you mean megabyte? 2gb=2000mb

  • @thecooldude9999 No a byte = 8 bits. 1 megabit is 1/8th of a MegaByte get it? They used to use Megabits a lot back in the early cartridge days.

  • @MN12BIRD ok, thanks for telling me that...

  • @thecooldude9999 No...2GiB=2000MB

    2GB=2048MB

  • @xan1242 you sir are an epic fail.

  • @thecooldude9999 No,you are.Do your research.

  • can this work on a clone system?

  • @GooseBumpsFan1 No I don't think it works on any clones.

  • Dude, where did you get an empty shell for the cartridge?

  • @MegaTim200

Ya as long as you have the rom

  • @MegaTim200 No SegaCD has extra hardware in it and no different than a 32X you can't play 32X games or SegaCD games without the extra hardware.

  • is there any good sites to download these games.....i like this because i don't always want to get up & look for 1 certain game. its easy to use 2

  • WAIT HOLD ON!!! You can use the Everdrive to play SEGA MASTER roms on your Genesis as well???? Then why would I need to buy the Master Ever Drive cart he developed??? Is that one useless then if you own this one??

  • @dogeymon83 Heh yeah I haven't played too many SMS games on here but many do work. The thing is they don't all work so I bet the SMS version will just work with more SMS games for those who want em all!

  • @MN12BIRD @dogeymon83 Master System Everdrive will be needed to play all SG-1000 games on the Master System itself and a couple of Master System games that use SG-1000 graphic modes. Why? Because Mega Drive VDP has only Mode 4 and lacks mode 0, 1, 2 and 3 need for some games. If you try a SG-1000 game with the Mega Drive Everdrive you will only get sound and a black screen. If that happens with Master System games you will know why.

  • @dogeymon83 Master Everdrive is for Master System console - not for Genesis.

  • The Average Sega Genesis game is 1to 4 mb for smaller games. I know.. I have all of the roms. lol

  • @wingnut4427 - Actually, I find the average Genesis game is in the 400 kb range. I don't remember seeing many that went anywhere near 1mb.

  • @dogeymon83 I meant on the high end. Most with more in depth game play. Sorry about that. It's funny though. Do you remember the original packaging of Strider for the Genesis & How it bragged "8 mega of power" ?? When I look at the raw uncompressed file it's only 3.5 mb. Someone was lying to us. lol

  • It's not piracy. You can't pirate something that isn't for sale.

  • @VelvetKevorkian Some of the games ARE still for sale. Like on Wii VC for example.

  • @MN12BIRD i wouldn't buy those games anyway. i would only play them on emulation. if people want something they buy it. i don't really care for those stupid wii VC releases. no game genie support, no save states, and i don't like the new gen consoles.

  • @MN12BIRD They might be on sale but they are emulated.

  • @VelvetKevorkian - That's not true. You can absolutely pirate software that you don't have the legal right to. It doesn't matter if it's not being commercially released at the moment. It is the property of the person who wrote it, or whoever the rights have been given/sold to. They might want to re-release it on any number of platforms available today, most notably virtual console, iPhone app store, and so on.

  • would this work with a pal megadrive

  • @mysteriosupafan Oh yeah works in any real Sega Genesis or Mega Drive hardware as far as I know.

  • @MN12BIRD shame as hes out of stock i would love one how mutch are they when there in stock

  • MN12BIRD, I just bought a GenMobile handheld from Stoneagegamer tonight for my son and saw another reviewer claim that 'Flash Cartridge's' work with the Genmobile. Do you know if the Everdrive works with a GenMobile? any info is appreciated and thanks

  • @rleary1 This cart does NOT work on my Genmobile and I've heard others say the same thing. So I would say no.

  • @MN12BIRD thanks for the answer! After I bought the genmobile last weekend I also bought a couple of sega gophers (with 2 GB card slot) Have you tried one of those or have an opinion? I already have 700 or so ROMS in *.bin format on my pc and I'm hoping the gophers work well. From all reviews I've seen on here they look decent. I have a lot of cartridges but thought my two kids would like one unit with 700 games already on it. My 14 yr old son especially loves old school Genesis games.

  • @rleary1 I've got a Gopher on the way so I'll be able to check it out soon.

  • @MN12BIRD Cool, I'll let you know about mine when I receive my gophers later this week. I've already downloaded the 'Panasonic formatter tool' that others recommend since using that software allows the gopher to create the 'GAME' folder that the .bin's need to be loaded within the SD card. If it works flawlessly I might end up ebaying my genmobile (which is also on it's way in the mail) The gophers got a slighly larger screen which is another plus. ttyl

  • This is awesome! I'll have to invest in one of these flash carts someday. =:-D

  • AHHH.. you're right... I did get confused, I even thought he said 1600 instead of 16000

I never even heard of a Megabit(I thought he was saying Megabyte but in a funny way)..lol

Sorry for the confusion.. same thing different terms, they both come out the same sort of size

When you mention capacity at 6:00..

Genesis, Master system and even 32X roms are actually WAY smaller than you think, genesis and master system roms are only really around 1 megabyte some aren't even that.. so you could almost say you can get 1 game to every 1 Megabyte on the card, and then some

  • @PoChopper I believe he said megabit, so you both may be correct

  • @richardtheconquerer Yeah, but i was just pointing out that he mentions Genesis games as being 8,16,24 megabytes when he talks about how many could be put on to a 2gb SD card.. but in actual fact they are about 1 megabyte when in rom format, some are less than a megabyte, some more than a MB... and master system games are about 300kb in size( about a quarter of a MB

Though 32X games will be alot more Megabytes.. probably about 32mb atleast

  • @PoChopper Oh, I know. I was pointing out your confusion. He says the games were 8, 16, and 24 megabits, not megabytes. A megabyte is a lot bigger (I think maybe 8 times the size) than a megabit.

  • Good points about defending emulation. One more thing you missed: Translation projects.

So many great Japanese games have been translated to English by fans, and without emulation, playing them would be pretty close to impossible.

  • not even mentioned sega invented the sega cd for hicher storage capacitybut this flash card cartride can store 16000 mbit of data wich is even more then a cd.so cartride technology please come back.

trouch the segacd has litle upgraded hardware.

  • Because of your review I have ordered the Everdrive. I can't wait to get it and try it out myself.

  • Funny how Sega made the Genesis BWC with the MS, but the damn video out and power adapter they always change with new hardware. *shakes fist*

  • @iRemainNameless Actually you can use the same power adapter and AV cable from a SMS model 1 and a Genesis model 1.

  • These will be back up for sale on stoneagegamer(dot)com Oct. 22, 2010 @ 10:00AM EST.

  • review the super everdrive next mn12bird :), lol.

  • I would get Everdrive on December 2010. otherwise, I could buy Milky Way.

  • Stone age gamer should give you 500 dollars of stuff....:)

  • That's cool Jake, It has a slot and a hole! LMAO >_<

  • thanks for the great review. but at the stoneagegamer website ive been unable to locate this cart? did they just stop selling it? please pm me if possible. thanks again

  • @jackatejill They're right on the front page but sold out for now. Keep checking until he gets more.

  • Looks like that shitty Bubsy game would be a good donor cart for this thing. I wasted way too much time playing that as a kid... Fuck Accolade lol.

  • @thebonefish Yeah I thought one of those taller carts would be nice because the button and SD card wouldn't stick out as much.

  • @MN12BIRD I was thinking more along the lines of hiding the sd and pause switch completely. After all like every Genesis game will fit on the 2 gig sd! Set it and forget it! Maybe Virtua Racing would be a good size cart too.

  • @MN12BIRD Fair enough. Hey I think you should check if "Knuckles in Sonic 1" rom works on real hardware!

  • Thank you for the great video but I have to say the bit about piracy was unnecessary and unsincere.

  • @subrealms Hey I don't care what you do with it but look in other peoples reviews of these and you'll see people posting "don't pirate games, buy games" and crap like that so yeah I wanted to point out there are other uses for this even if you do buy all your games. There's still games you can't buy or homebrews to try on real hardware.

  • Jake, dont worry about this jerk, as you know on my channel, I do not use emulators or pirated stuff at all!! Since I started on YouTube, I have spent a little over $13,000 on games, systems and accessories, and it flips my *bleep* when I hear the people want downloaded or illegal ROMS, I actually go as far as reporting them to authorities today since most games start from 50 cents and goes to $12,000 its sad that most want all for none, thats why I admire your site, 100% real 100% of the time!

  • @LCDragonrats What a waste of oxygen some people are.

  • @subrealms Very thin skinned are you, I am sorry that you dont have $13,000 much less 13 cents to spend on games. Jake brought a very good point on purposes on how these items work and you had to snide him on his video, you deserved what you got!

  • @LCDragonrats

1.You're speaking to someone inside your head, not me. You have no idea how many originals I got and for that matter are a nobody to have an idea about other people's business.

2.I just don't know what makes you think you can troll, insult and claim to be ethical at the same time. You may own a million dollar worth of items but will still act like the bitter child you are inside.

3.Speaking in MN12BIRD's name is also insulting to him.

4.I have no idea what I've got. Trolling?

  • Very very cool, for under $100 CHEAP. I really want one but they are out off stock :(

  • i have found a way to make programmable nes and snes cartridges, respond if you want the link ^^

  • +2309842098 points to KRIKzz! What a brilliant guy.

  • against pirating old games..... lol

  • Pretty cool.

    on to part 2.... ^_^

  • I am all for this device. I got into buying real Genesis games Nov of last year. Owning a real copy of a game is the fun. Tracking down the game is part of the fun.Playing it is fun as well. Hopefully Sega does not get wind of this and try to shut the guy down.

  • Dude I got some crazy things at the flea market I got to show u and I am saving up to get that

  • That is just simply awesome man! The man who designed this is BRILLIANT! :)

  • So basically, you can put an SD card in that card and it can play games on the Sega Genesis from the SD card?

  • You may have mentioned this in the video but, if i buy this from stone age gamer does the SD card that it comes with already have all those games on it or do you have to put them on yourself ?? THANKS

  • @johndouglas187 No that would be illegal sorry. :)

  • @johndouglas187 As always if you want to put games on it you'll have to find them yourself it doesn't come with any on the SD card.

  • That looks kick ass jake and for the price, it sounds like a great deal. I'm moving on to part 2

  • Just a quick little question. Can this thing technically play Sega Game Gear games too? I mean. Game Gear games are pretty much the same as Master System games.

Also, is there any region issiues. Like. Will i be able to play NTSC roms on my PAL Mega Drive.. I remember the SNES Powerpak from RetroUSB needed PAL roms to work on my console. And will the Everdrive even work on PAL systems?

  • @captainnintendo Game Gear and Master System have different color palettes I believe so no it cannot play Game Gear games.

  • @captainnintendo Game Gear can display more colors than SMS but not all games take advantage of that fact. So I think some GG games can work or be easily modified to work but some can't. It should work on PAL as far as I know and I've played PAL games from ROM on my NTSC system the Everdrive has some type of region patch in it. But I'm not sure how well it really works. Check the official sites for more info.

  • What's awesome is that this little flash cart can create video capability for the Sega Genesis, obviously it's no HD or good quality, but just the fact it's playing it, is pretty damn sweet by itself.

  • @GoGo2 Yeah I've seen people putting videos on the SD cards.

  • Does it matter if they are pirated? Sega does not make any money for sea genesis games anymore.

  • Is there an SNES version of this?

  • @onexero1 There are ones on retrousb dot com that take CF cards. Unfortunately they cost more, are much harder to use and I don't think the compatibility is great. But I've never used one so I could be wrong. I think the guy who made this one is working on an SNES one next so it will probably be better.

  • piracy in this old systems is not like stealing from the company that made the games since they are not made anymore or sold as new. so I dont have a problem with that.

  • @miguelthegamer Well, yes and no. They could technically lose money since SEGA still markets their older games via DS/PSP/PS3/360 collections like the Sonic Ultimate Collection and through Wii's Virtual Console.

Also, cartridge piracy has been going on since the Atari 2600 days through to the DS.

I don't think Sega is too worried about this device though. At $79.99 & for play only on an original console. I bet most people could buy quite a few original carts for that price. :P

  • lucky so and so

  • It's Virtua Racing, not Virtual Racing

  • @SegaMasterSystem101 Yeah I know I know it just slips out sometimes!

  • Does this work on a pal system? :)

  • does that work with sega CD?

  • @SkoogGaming Yep it detects the Sega CD and I think you can use it for multi BIOS but I haven't tried that.

  • @MN12BIRD so this wouldn't run ultimate mortal kombat trilogy?

its a hack of ultimate mortal kombat 3 if you didn't know

  • do you know anything about a commercial sega master system flash cart that works like this?

  • Yay Im from Ukraine so Im sure to get this flash cart great video!

  • Sweet :) A special game card that can be re-programmed. Delicious AND with it's own in build file system! That is so nice, I mean one of the nicer things in modern consoles is it has it's own OS.

Of course this card can be used for many good good things :)

  • speaking of home-brew games, i think it would be so cool if someone made a home-brew Sonic the Hedgehog 4 game based off the up-coming one. Use Sonic 4 level design and Sega Genesis music/graphics

  • This would be so perfect for me! I have Genesis carts that I got from pawn shops and 2nd hand shops that dont have a box, they are a pain in the butt to load, some got wet when i moved and corrosion got on the contacts. My Genesis is also in bad condition so I probably need to get a new Genesis as well. I am probably gonna buy one of those flash carts as well.they are AWESOME!

  • Hey Jake!

Have you tried using that chip on the Nomad?

Please reply if you find out! Thanks! :)

  • thats a pretty cool device.

  • can you put game gear roms onto it

  • i want one :D

  • I fear this will somewhat kill the last Sega respect around. Like what happened with artists and MP3s... I will try and get me one myself and have fun with it - but once you can download it all... you simply don't feel like buying a Sega game when a Nintendo is next to it for the same price now ... damn. Nice for homebrew but that's it.

  • Here is a question for you Jake...will this work with any of the clone systems?

  • @bombenhagen everdrive will not works on clones where china guys forgot to connect #time and m68k_clock wires on cart port.

  • does stone age gamer sell game boy advance flash carts?

  • @joshbot360 I hope not since Nintendo is very diligent to go after companies that sell flash carts. A flash cart that works on a 20+ year old console not so much...

  • I've gotten the SNES version of this a few months ago.

  • @ScrewAttackEurope How do you like it? I am considering this, but I'm still pretty content with my Super Wild Card DX (32Mbit) copier. The only thing I would miss is playing games like Super Mario Kart, Pilot Wings, and a few other DSP games that work on this.

  • Just as an update Krikzz Is currently working on a SNES edition ;)

  • That is pretty darn rad! Hope they'll make one for the Nes some day :)

  • I was in the middle of playing metal slug 4 on the ps2, when my friend sadi there was a new mn12bird video. I stopped playing to watch it, Feel special, feel very special. haha

  • @TreasureChestReviews yeah mn12bird is awsome check out mi=y channel i have old school games

  • The Everdrive does look pretty cool :-D. I'd like to see one of this quality for Super Nintendo though, preferably with FX chip compatibility ^_^

  • @crazyfooInc The same guy is working on SNES version. however Super FX compatibility is out of the question. It would be way too expensive to pull off.

  • @stoneagegamer

That sounds pretty nice :-D. I knew about how impractical the FX chip would be, but I can hope right, lol

  • @crazyfooInc Why stop with that? You might as well add DSP-1, DSP-2, DSP-3, DSP-4, FX, FX2, SA-1, CX4, SETA, OBC-1, and a GB-Z80 just for kicks. [/sarcasm]

  • Are these is stock anywhere?

  • will you able to play the 32x version of wolfenstein 3d using this?

  • @Mcsleeve yep

  • lol sapphire radeon 4650 box

  • @Georgefromaccounting Actually it's a 4850... but it's DEAD!

  • @MN12BIRD lol!

  • WOW WTF I JUST WENT ON tHE SITE AND IT'S SOLD OUT :((((

    now im sad

  • Could you recommend me a cheep and affordable SNES flash cart? One that uses SD cards on something like that?

  • @Bakemon13

go to retrousb and check their flash card out

  • 8megabits or megabytes?

wait, while watching this he said all genesis games can run on it.. lol now i want one

  • @spiritro06 8 Megabit as in 1 MegaByte. Yeah so small a 2GB SD card really can fit every game on it at once!

  • @MN12BIRD

ughh, wily wars is 2mb.. total bonerkill man

  • a good thing is to have 1 of those is to play hack games

  • That's pretty sweet man, I wonder if the snes got one of these too.

  • @pixelperv I've seen one that uses CF cards but it looks like it's really complicated to use. It's not really meant for general gaming use more like for homebrew programmers and stuff. I don't think the compatibility is that great for general gaming. Plus it's expensive. I'm actually surprised no ones sold a cheaper, easy to use SD based SNES or even NES flash cart yet. But I wouldn't be surprised if there was one soon.

  • have you seen the NES flash drive controller made by ProtoDojo very cool, even has the contra cheat as a security code.

  • Sweet! They have one of these for the Intellivision as well and it is really cool!

Great video Jake and I'll have to check out StoneAgeGamer :)
