  • Thank you so much for sharing this, very helpful...I'll have to try this for a friend who loves sticky rice

  • Many people forget about sticky rice, which is a huge shape in Thailand. This is especially best with papaya salad.

  • what would you serve sticky rice with, if you don´t eat it as a desert? Would you put salt in the preperation?

  • Is it possible to do this with a rice cooker?

  • @killthelights2, yes, it should be possible to use anything that produces steam if you can put a covered wire mesh in the path of the steam. Some rice cookers have a steaming basket which might work well depending. Just be careful around the boiling water.

  • @killthelights2 yes, rice cooker/steamer works well

  • Omg! All this time, I thought the thai lady I knew who made sticky rice knew some awesome trick, and it's just another kind of rice.

Btw, in my opinion at least, it does taste sweet.

  • How long in the cooking process to you change the top du a smaller size?

  • @lovewillkeepuwarm You don't need to change the top if you start out using one the right size for the amount of rice you are cooking. We made that mistake and changed it half way between, which didn't cause a problem. The right sized top will just help keep the steam in better.

  • Sticky rice with kai or moo yang, arroi makmaaaaa

  • Does the rice taste sweet without adding anything to it? Do you need to add sugar or honey when making it for a desert?

  • @cjizzleismynizzle Wow! That is such a great question I am surprised nobody has asked it yet. Actually, it is difficult to tell if sweet rice tastes more sweet than any other rice and I don't think any rice tastes very sweet. There may be another reason it is called "sweet" rice - it is often used in deserts where sweet things like sugar and honey are added to it. In the dish, Sticky Rice with Mangoes sweet coconut milk is poured over sticky rice.

  • I LOVE steamed Thai rice. It is so much better than what I grew up with.

  • I love how you can hear the cadence of her native language in how she speaks English. Thank you for the tutorial. Khan kul kap (I think that's how it's spelled).

  • STICKY RICE HERE I COME!!!! WOOH

  • Pair it with a lil Mango and you've got some awesome. Thanks!

  • น่ารักน่ากิน

  • can someone PLEASE tell me where to find this!?!?!

  • @DizzyAja In Western countries, most Asian grocery stores will have bags of what is called, Sweet Rice or Glutinous Rice in the isle with the other rice. You might even find it in the regular supermarket. If you look closely at the grains you can see they are generally more opaque, shorter and fatter than than the other types of rice. On our web site soon we will have a listing of asian markets in your area.

  • I love your accent and food!

  • Friggin' Awesome! Thanks alot

  • sweet i have been looking to make this rice for a long time , now i know how to thanks...im latino an i love the rice ...

  • Thanks ya i still have the rice and it tastes good as normal rice by steaming it

  • kow neoew

  • I love sticky rice great video

  • do you need to use a specific kind of rice?

  • @chivasfor22 Yes, on the package it will say Sweet Rice or Glutinous rice. It is interesting that glutinous rice does not contain any gluten, but has the same texture and feel of foods high in gluten. I wonder if it could be used to replace gluten in some foods. Anyway, an excellent gluten free choice for people on a gluten free diet.

  • What about thai jasmine rice? Would that work too?

  • @maryconie No, jasmine rice is different and does not become "sticky" in the same desirable way. In the video we show you the difference between raw jasmine and sticky(sweet or gloutonous) rice.

  • Woo! Awesome! I knew I didn't need a rice cooker for this stuff. Thanks :P!

  • this is awesome!!! I Love to eat sticky rice, now I know how to make it! Thanks!

  • I'm guessing the 2 people who disliked this can't cook!

  • I love the way she says, "Sticky Rice!" Yum Yum!!!

  • i made the sticky rice last night for the first time using your method because the bamboo steamer at the thai market was too large. it came out perfect!.. i served it with gai pad prik and shrimp w/ snow peas that i made.. thanks for the video, now i can make sticky rice at home!

  • While watching the video, I forgot that this is a recipe. So charming!

  • cleanest kitchen I've ever seen

  • What a charming woman.

  • Thank you so much. Been trying to figure this out forever. C:

  • thank you so muuuuch!! this video really helped since i have no rice cooker or steaming basket :) i'll try it out in one or two days :)

  • Funny how she says sticky rice

  • STICKY RICE IS THE BEST!

  • Thank you so much for posting! My co worker got me a sticky rice steamer with the bamboo basket thing a few years ago. She had me soaking the rice over night, rinsing it several times and then steaming it for 45 min's on one side then 30 min's on the other.

I just followed your way, using my steamer and it was GREAT! It tasted better also!

    Thanks again!

  • wow i love your voice!!

  • It's kind of depressing that she took "steaming rice" literally and is spending like an an hour and 20 minutes to cook a pot of rice which shouldn't take more than 30 min. were it done the easier way

Mix equal amounts of rinsed rice with water in a heavy (thick-walled) stock pot. Bring to a boil and immediately turn to lowest burner setting and cover. Cook undisturbed (no peaking!) for 25 minutes. Turn off the heat (again, do not remove the lid) and let it sit for another 10 minutes. Voila.

  • @NirvanicSunshine --- it's not depressing. this isn't basic rice cooking. it's a shorter grain and cooks differently than regular jasmine rice..so it necessitates a different process.

  • Did anyone else find this video not only helpful, but HILARIOUS?

  • Thank you for this. I can can not wait to try it.

  • thank you for making this video.

  • Thank you for cooking directions. My employer's wife is from Laos and she gave me a bamboo basket and a curvy little pot along with a bag full of rice. She brings in sticky rice all the time for us. Now I can make my own! And I love your kitchen! It's spotless!

  • love it! love how u say stickyrice!

  • @angelstgeorge ticky rye

  • @angelstgeorge

    Ikr hahaha

  • I had sticky rice from Hainan Island (China). The rice was cooked in a coconut, and so the coconut was full of sticky rice. The cook cut the coconut in quarters with a big cleaver. It was so delicious and looked so beautiful.

Do you know how this was done? Maybe can be done with baby coconut from the grocery store in North America?

  • @violentcubist That's interesting! I have never seen sticky rice cooked in a coconut before. I will try to make this .

  • @CookingThaiFood My Family's Chinese & my Mom prepares sweet sticky rice w/ coconut. We don't soak the rice, instead we cook it w/ coconut & sugar, til the rice's soften a bit & steam ;9

  • I had a Thai friend as a kid, and her mum used to make this all the time, but she wouldn't tell me how to make it. NOW I KNOW HER SECRET! Haha. Thank you for the vid.

  • @iVixxen ^__^

  • i love her accent :3

  • Looks so easy to make now. Thanks much for this simple way to make sticky rice.

  • YAY!! now i can make onigiri ^.^

  • BEST DISH EVER!!!!

  • You make this so easy, thank so much!

  • I was told to leave the rice on the water overnight. Is this wrong to do?

  • @Bystronicman08 It's ok to soak it overnight.

  • What is sticky rice with chopped papaya called? I think it's sum kun something or I could be completely wrong. All I know is, It's very good.

  • @93supra2jz that papaya salad called Som Tam.

  • @Maxcracks, when I lived near Cambridge, I used ro get all my stuff at the Asian Market Store near the Botanical Gardens. They had absolutely everything there to cook any asian food. Manchester had a few stores too

  • my kids LOVE sticky rice!!!!

  • I dig how this lady extends her vowels.

  • Great! But I can't find a strainer/colander exactly like that anywhere in the uk or online. Please can anyone help? perhaps a brand name or website. I need one not just for steaming rice but for all other kitchen jobs. It's a great item.

  • Very clean kitchen, I like it.

  • i love you!

  • @animelover796

you can use any kind of steamer.

  • i love lady! im gonna make tis everyday of my life and every other video i watched wanted be to use bamboo things i didn't have!thankyou soooooo much!

  • I use my rice cooker with the steamer attachment on top to make my sticky rice! We eat it about 1-2 times a month. I make the sticky rice and my mom will make the papaya salad. Yummy! :)

  • yesterday, i made it with a brown-ish, yellow rice (only looked brown-ish yellow when not cooked).. . it worked, but i just needed to cook it more so it would taste.. . yummier? i dunno, but, i put the rice in a bowl (after cooked like in the video) and with a wooden spoon i just padded the rice in the bowl down, and put a plate on top of the bowl, and fliped over carefully, this worked well, for me.

    thank you! ^-^

  • could you use jasmine rice instead?

  • Sticky Rice....

  • whats difference sticky rice steamed liek that and boiled in water with right water measurements ?

  • This type of is eaten with the fingers and each grain literally sticks to the others. A lump of many grains can be formed with the fingers into a ball and can be used to pick up meat, vegetables, and dipped into sauces. If we were using another kind of rice you couldn't hold much of it between your fingers as the individual grains would separate and fall.

  • no, i ment, what if sticky sushi rice we would boil with right water measurements, as it is said in back of the box and what difference would be comparing to steaming method ?

  • I have never tried that. I think it would get overcooked if you cooked it according to the directions for normal rice and probably be to soft and gooey. We will try it sometime for an experiment.

  • @CookingThaiFood Because ussually boiling in wated is default instruction how to make sticky rice on back of the package

  • so the rice is not the normal rice - its a type of rice - you can not do sticky rice from normal rice.....?

  • no, u can't cook sticky rice with normal rice. you can get glutinous rice from asian marts. it is presumably harder to digest and higher in calorie.

  • The grains of this type of rice are different from the kind most people eat. It looks short, fat and more opaque. Raw, it is generally referred to as sweet or glutinous rice. I don't know how sticky rice would be if cooked in the normal way, underwater. I guess it might be too gooey. Also, I don't know how normal rice would be if cooked in the sticky rice method. It would probably take a long time to cook through. We may try it soon to see what happens.

  • Thanks for the video.

  • OMG thank you!!! Im SOOO using these tips. :)

  • Yes,it's very easy.
