When Alanis came out, I thought: "Wow, this girl got issues".. Her lyrics, so personal on my opinion, tells all about some vulnerable girl trying to find her inner peace. This song, one of my favorites from her, finds her in a more mature way, but with the ideal of falling in love with "the right one", as I think each and everyone of us dream about. Personally, this song reminds me of my years on college, when I was trying to find myself.

Umm, hon, the left screen doesn't depict courtship a few hundred years ago. If it did, it would look a lot more like the beginning of "Monty Python and the Holy Grail", in which everyone is covered in their own excrement and dying of the plague. This video depicts fairy tale courtship. Hence the whole "precious illusions" description. There's no "going back" to it. It's an idealized reality that has never existed in the first place.
