One answer I read was that dogs lick the mouths to taste what the human has ate. It's just a left over trait when dogs lived in packs and that's how the dogs knew the scouts had killed something. The trait also encourages vomiting in the scout dogs which leads to the other other dogs lapping up the vomit.

i'd put people 'who let their dogs kiss them, with tongues' into room 101, amongst many other things. And people who say "might of" or "should of". And people who put apostrophe's on plural's of word's. And.... no, i'll stop there.
