  • Hi I'm completely new to guitar (just got my first acoustic a few days ago) and I get the shapes I just don't understand what the right hand is supposed to do a friend said its something called Travis picking (I think that's what he said). Either way I don't get it hahaha. Anyways, awesome that Robin commented on your video that's like... Idk history or something haha

  • Thanks for the great video! I'm having trouble getting the finger picking down, would you be able to suggest any videos that you learnt the finger picking style from please? Thank you!

  • Dude, thank you so fucking much! Your videos are a great help!

  • Great video. Man I'm so jealous you got Robin Pecknold to comment on your video.

  • i dont know how you do it man. but thatnk you so much. i look forward to learning helplessness blues

  • Thanks you thank you thank you! This was so helpful! I've been learning how to finger pick, but I never would have figured out the tuning plus the capo plus the cords without your help. Incredibly helpful! I subscribed just because of this video!

  • dude, thanks a lot! been figuring this song out for awhile now. and pecknold's a genius!

  • Just to clarify, this is exactly how it is played as recorded, and how I used to play it live, but now I play it just normal tuning so we can transition into "He Doesn't Know Why" from this song. Great job again

  • @robinpecknold Thanks! Means a lot! I made this vid before your tour started and I saw you playing it in standard tuning transitioning into "He Doesn't Know Why". Great song.

  • @cougarman8 holy shit robin commented on your video

  • @cougarman8 holy shit how does it feel to have robin pecknold talking to you?!!!

  • @robinpecknold Tonight I come across a genuine robinpecknold comment on a tutorial of one of his songs. If youtube was around in the sixties it would b like looking for a vid on how to play strawberry fields and finding a helpful comment from Lennon. Before I stop gushing can I just say that "like a huddled moon exile on the shore .......... years ago" is worthy of Dylan. And lastly is "God only knows which of them I've become" a reference to the Beach Boys?

  • Nailed it!!!

  • "It helps if you're playing an electric like him and you have a bunch of reverb, and your robin pecknold...all those things help. ummm that's the whole song really."

  • spot on. nice work man!

  • amazing help, thanks for posting man.

  • I hate you because your SOOO EFFING GOOD AT GUITAR! REally though. I need skills like this!

  • well done keep doing songs that arent on tab sites

  • whoever says this is wrong, or that the tune is played in standard has got to be hard of hearing. Great job figuring this one out, I've been struggling with it in standard tuning and now I know why. When you hear the album version it is very easy to tell that there is something going on, it's not a pedal or effect, it is an open tuning with capo. Case is closed! (also live videos of Robin playing this shows a capo on 3rd)

  • @happycrappy81 There are several videos of him playing it in standard tuning, open chords, no capo. Regardless, learning songs in different tunings is never a bad thing.

  • @happycrappy81 it's played in standard live. at least in all the videos i've seen have been and standard and when I saw them too. on the record it's like this :)

  • I think you're over-complicating things. The guy plays this with no capo and standard tuning. Although it's not exactly how it's played on the track, which i suspect was recorded with two guitars. When they do the song lives it's just a simple C-G-F-Em-F-Em-F-G-F-G.

  • @skausage He plays it in standard tuning also, but he has the band adding harmonies, etc.. if you are playing by yourself this sounds a lot better.. you can also find a video here on youtube of RP playing it this way. Such a great song. deceptively simple.

  • PLEASE try and write out the plucking pattern... I can't figure out what you're doing but its magical and I wanna replicate it!

  • @Gibb9494 I think it's basic travis picking

  • "I'm not gonna try to sing like him. It's impossible. He's got the voice of a bearded angel."

  • I do also have my little finger like that, it gets easier in some way. Good tutorial!

  • being robin would help

  • Great work. Was playing it in standard and it spmething was definitely not right about it. Love this tuning.

  • awesome! if you get a chance you should try to make a vid explaining the philosophy of picking and how you pick it up so fast from songs(no pun intended). you've covered all my faves, bon iver, ttmoe, and now foxes? THank you!

  • very good teacher. thanks !

  • this was really helpful! thanks so much

  • You actually have a pretty good voice man.

  • Thanks!

  • Hey you finally got it working! Sweet!

  • bearded angels ftw lol. thanks doron!!
