  • Reminds me of the Grateful Dead.

  • Aaw, that ending is like coitus interruptus. I love that solo.

  • No disrespect to Zappa. Cheers for the replies (the nice one's anyway). I KNOW he recorded a LOT of stuff, LMAO! I'll reiterate. I merely suggested that, in an age where acid guitar rock was king with the likes of Hendrix, Vanilla Fudge, James Gang, etc, it would have been awesome if Frank had recorded an album loaded with "studio cuts" like the above, WTP and more distorted freakouts instead of the tripe he was churning out in 1969. Nineteen-Sixty-Nine! I meant in THAT year not later on...

  • @1968dps i see your point. personally i dont really like too much of the eary political stuff, i prefer the 69-78 stuff when it was all proggy and complex. i guess he did the political stuff because nobody else did it. i dont know.

    all the best.

    Mprod

  • This is great YourArf, thanks for posting! I've never heard this version before. It's quite a different approach to the 'Weasels' version - this has much more space with that kind of jaunty 'up' feel. Very cool!

  • Rest In Peace Frank!

  • thanx for sharing cheers

  • Pitty he didnt record more???? I know of 420 albums he recorded!!!

  • @tcrawley222 420? omg think a little... "Zappa produced almost all of the more than 60 albums he released with the band The Mothers of Invention and as a solo artist."

  • @1968dps He is probably the most recorded "rock" star in history, except the Dead. Pity you haven't heard more. I am sure in addition to what is already released, there are TONS of unreleased material, and even more that was unrecorded, or partially recorded. Nothing Frank produced would be considered amongst "rock's greatest ventures". The listrening audience, except for the minority that understood Frank's music, would be too stupid to get it. They want the Comfortably Numb solo. Dumbed-down.

  • @1968dps Its a real shame that frank zappa didnt release more albums. I mean come on, only 62 albums?

  • @1968dps Defo mate. But Zappa wouldn't have wanted to be "rated" in anyway.

  • I like this song better fast paced - like it was on Weasles... it just loses too much energy here.

  • Thanks for sharing that live version in Boston, never heard it before.

  • a fucking genious...

  • @1968dps i dont know i could say i wanted frank to record more, if i did he would have basically recorded his entire life but i do pity that he didnt release more

  • this is the great zappa my friends!!

  • how is lady gaga in the sugestion box in the vids section on the upper right

  • Thanks, man. Never heard this version afore. Beeg cheers to yer.

  • thank zappa for zappa and zappa. i am atheist and jesus is chillin with FZ

  • Love love love love. Thank you, God, for Frank Zappa. (And yes, I'm aware he was an atheist. But I'm not.)

  • I love this version so much I can't even put it into words.

  • Cheers mate perhaps I will soon!

  • @1968dps Your comment was accurately perceptive. You know Z well.

  • Thank you!

I know Zappa recorded thousands of hrs of stuff but the playing on WTP was/is mind-blowing... I guess I am biased because I happen to love the general guitar picking style of 1969, but, for me, WTP stands out and equals anything Hendrix ever did...

  • @1968dps You and I are now officially kindred musical spritual brothers. Keep in touch. R

  • dislike- ugh more crap

  • @buckyew2 why don't you like it?

  • If you like Zappa, try listening to some Captain Beefheart

  • zappa's cool, but my mother plays the same 8 songs every single day on loud volume while smoking pot so i'm kind of sick of him

  • @IBETHISNAMEISTAKEN what songs?

  • @IBETHISNAMEISTAKEN buy her joe's garage. fantastic albums

  • There are literally thousands of hours of unreleased masters in the Zappa vaults - there are over a hundred Zappa albums out there - too bad he didn't record more? Nobody in the history of recording has taped as much stuff as Zappa. A hundred hours of Z. in u-tube alone. Wiki had to reformat just to accommodate the Zappa legacy. Frank likes those who do the research.

  • @1968dps But, helped start the jazz fusion age! Jean luc Ponty electric violin, George Duke keyboards, and many others.

  • I like this era of guitar playing, actually every era's good changes just like his sounds

  • Well he is no Justin Biber, thankfully.

  • My Drums want to kill your daddy... :)

  • No commercial potential what so ever.

    Are you hung UP?

I rather be a rock then a cop!

  • @LayenPipes

I know 120 albums from him...

  • I have a theory about Franks music and the Internet…

the vast majority of people are only now discovering the range of stuff he created - I mean the sheer volume and diversity is frightening yet awe inspiring its like only now with today’s “media” is the man really being “Heard”

    and No I haven't been smoking :-)

  • @spacehopperballs True fans all knew about Barking Pumpkin and how to keep up with the Zappas

  • I like zappa because every song is like a story and it is pure entertainment

  • @1968dps

What are you talking about "pity he didn't record more"? The man made over 40 albums!

  • Sorry I meant guitar oriented stuff in 1969 onward instead of experimental crap...

  • @1968dps

I don't think his music has ever been guitar oriented... He did have lots of amazing guitar playing throughout his albums in any given year. His 'experimental crap' has gained a lot of recognition from people in all different disciplines. I am so sorry you don't appreciate the aesthetic.

  • most awsome , ive allways concidered zappa one of the best guitarist. @ 1968dps i would have to agree aswell.

  • I really liked Frank's bluesy swanky soloing from this era. This track and willie the pimp are bliss

  • @1968dps zappa recorded like 50 albums and theres enough material for another 100 in his studio....

  • never heard this version it is nice and raw =))

  • Buzz Gardner was in the band too, as of that date.

Good stuff - but did you know there's a longer edit of the same performance where Frank's long solo turns into a duet with Ian?

  • Much as I like this, I do prefer the version on "Weasels Ripped my Flesh."

  • @1968dps "Canarsie" One of the greatest compositions I've ever heard. The more you listen to it, the more fascinating it becomes.

  • Now I heard Dweezil's version of this song, But I never realized it was Originally recorded by Frank Zappa

  • GRACIAS FRANK POR ESTE TEMAZO. GENIO INMORTAL.

  • from weasles ripped my flesh, the Lp had alot of great songs and poppa john chreech playing violin on. directly from my hart to you. J.p.J

  • @1968dps

He has numerous albums out. I'm surprised when I learn of a Zappa album I've never even heard of.

  • funky version, luvz it!

  • in soviet russia... my mama kills your guitar

  • @Malam4rco lol!

  • iPooted

  • @1968dps Right on!!!!!!

  • @1968dps could zappa ever record even more?

  • 4:19 is one hell of a swanky solo!

  • @1968dps He still has numerous albums in the vault, but Gail Zappa and the Zappa Family Trust only release one every now and then to make money. It's definitely not how Frank would have wanted it.

  • @1968dps I agree that he was an incredible guitarist, but I think wrong when you say you wish he recorded more, he had more than 40 albums under his belt, and archivist are still finding tapes of live shows.

  • @Bluesmen88 62 albums and that was 5% of hat he has in the vault

  • Frank Zappa was not only one of the best guitarists of the 60's, 70's and 80's but was completely underrated as one of the best lyricists of all times. He could and did shake the establishments idea of what music should be. RIP Frank Zappa, we have your recordings, but still they aren't the same as you being here.

  • @journeyer58 yea Zappa and Izzy Stradlin were underrated lyric writers

  • @WhatsAscope yeah what a scope dude right on underrated but still shining like stars

  • @BlahBlah170576567 exactly,GENIUSIS!

  • @1968dps Frank couldn't have recorded more. He made 75 albuns and died at 53 or 54 years old. It's more than 1 album each year if he started recording at age 0...

That's some impressive things about FZ!

  • enjoy the day

  • Great jazzy version of this song.

  • @1968dps You should check out the "Shut up 'n play yer guitar" album from 1981 then, it's even better than "Hot Rats" guitar playing wise. Then there's also the "Guitar" album from 1988, and the post-humous "Trance-fusion" from 2006.

  • @YourArf I always thought his instrumentals were pretty good. Like the Sheik Yerbouti.

  • Frank's playing was SO much better in the 60s.

  • lol love this one, rip frank

  • excellent sound !!! tks for this one!!!!

  • Your posts are always great Arf - thanks a lot for sharing !

  • Oh, man, that was sounding so yummy. It was the high point of my messed up day.

  • Underrated guitarist. RIP Frank.

  • One of Mr. Zappa's best!! xDD

  • brilliant musicians!!

  • Tremendous

  • this one pretty damn good
