No disrespect to Zappa. Cheers for the replies (the nice one's anyway). I KNOW he recorded a LOT of stuff, LMAO! I'll reiterate. I merely suggested that, in an age where acid guitar rock was king with the likes of Hendrix, Vanilla Fudge, James Gang, etc, it would have been awesome if Frank had recorded an album loaded with "studio cuts" like the above, WTP and more distorted freakouts instead of the tripe he was churning out in 1969. Nineteen-Sixty-Nine! I meant in THAT year not later on...
@1968dps i see your point. personally i dont really like too much of the eary political stuff, i prefer the 69-78 stuff when it was all proggy and complex. i guess he did the political stuff because nobody else did it. i dont know.
This is great YourArf, thanks for posting! I've never heard this version before. It's quite a different approach to the 'Weasels' version - this has much more space with that kind of jaunty 'up' feel. Very cool!
@tcrawley222 420? omg think a little... "Zappa produced almost all of the more than 60 albums he released with the band The Mothers of Invention and as a solo artist."
@1968dps He is probably the most recorded "rock" star in history, except the Dead. Pity you haven't heard more. I am sure in addition to what is already released, there are TONS of unreleased material, and even more that was unrecorded, or partially recorded. Nothing Frank produced would be considered amongst "rock's greatest ventures". The listrening audience, except for the minority that understood Frank's music, would be too stupid to get it. They want the Comfortably Numb solo. Dumbed-down.
@1968dps i dont know i could say i wanted frank to record more, if i did he would have basically recorded his entire life but i do pity that he didnt release more
I know Zappa recorded thousands of hrs of stuff but the playing on WTP was/is mind-blowing... I guess I am biased because I happen to love the general guitar picking style of 1969, but, for me, WTP stands out and equals anything Hendrix ever did...
There are literally thousands of hours of unreleased masters in the Zappa vaults - there are over a hundred Zappa albums out there - too bad he didn't record more? Nobody in the history of recording has taped as much stuff as Zappa. A hundred hours of Z. in u-tube alone. Wiki had to reformat just to accommodate the Zappa legacy. Frank likes those who do the research.
I have a theory about Franks music and the Internet…
the vast majority of people are only now discovering the range of stuff he created - I mean the sheer volume and diversity is frightening yet awe inspiring its like only now with today’s “media” is the man really being “Heard”
I don't think his music has ever been guitar oriented... He did have lots of amazing guitar playing throughout his albums in any given year. His 'experimental crap' has gained a lot of recognition from people in all different disciplines. I am so sorry you don't appreciate the aesthetic.
@1968dps He still has numerous albums in the vault, but Gail Zappa and the Zappa Family Trust only release one every now and then to make money. It's definitely not how Frank would have wanted it.
@1968dps I agree that he was an incredible guitarist, but I think wrong when you say you wish he recorded more, he had more than 40 albums under his belt, and archivist are still finding tapes of live shows.
Frank Zappa was not only one of the best guitarists of the 60's, 70's and 80's but was completely underrated as one of the best lyricists of all times. He could and did shake the establishments idea of what music should be. RIP Frank Zappa, we have your recordings, but still they aren't the same as you being here.

@1968dps Its a real shame that frank zappa didnt release more albums. I mean come on, only 62 albums?

@1968dps Defo mate. But Zappa wouldn't have wanted to be "rated" in anyway.

I like this song better fast paced - like it was on Weasles... it just loses too much energy here.
