  • It's a shame that GNER went out of business Great Vid

  • Great camera action , especially in the rain

  • our trains are so shit compared to the ones in Europe

  • liked the 125s ,225s and the 365s

  • Don't know a lot about trains, but that EWS pulling the intercity carriages at 3:34, is that normal?

  • @GoRob The EWS Class 67 is a Thunderbird. Only used when a train fails.

  • It's great to see so many ECML express trains at full speed - a sight unrivaled on any other railway in Britain. Thanks for taking the time to film this excellent video.

  • what does GNER stand for?

  • @Hartsock91 Great North Eastern Railway

  • Top Class video! The old GNER livery totally wins

  • Love the begining! Awesome! The music went really well with it! :D

  • 100th comment! Ace work!!

  • I hope you were looking over your shoulder at 2.15 cus if a train was coming the other way you wudda got FUBARed

  • Superb!

  • Brits need American-style 5-chime horns. Much more pleasant on the ear.

  • the hst horns at 6:30 are cute

  • How the hell is ANYONE meant to hear the announcements while the trains are passing by.

Also, i really really really like the vid! :D

  • nice vid, like

  • Great video and great camera work

  • Hi great video! Great capturing and nice angles!! Does anyone know of places to record east coast trains at 120-125mph? cheerz

    Lee

  • @DualDarkWoody Northallerton and Thirsk stations are both passed through at 125 m.p.h.

  • it looks like my local bus stop on a monday morning

  • Amazing video!

  • Cool videos, but pretty wild job with the camera zoom. Next time I recommend better timing while taking shots, so that you won't need to change the zoom that quickly :-).

  • excellnet! Amazing speed there! Where did you film? Was it just Doncaster?

  • Few places on the East Coast.

    St Neots,

    Huntingdon,

    and Doncaster

  • whats the train speed thorugh this station?

  • Full line speed of 125mph!

  • Do you know if and where they still run at 140mph?

If they don't, is there any footage of them doing so?

  • I understand they never actually ran at 140mph.

  • Oh. I thought they ran at 140mph with flashing green signals, instead of solid green.

  • That was the area where they could, however never was achieved.

  • Comment removed

  • I would appreciate it if you sent the comment once, not 7 times! I have deleted the others as they are not really of any use to me as the one is more than sufficient!

  • nice to see some one at st neots spoting

  • waaaw what a trains!!

    nice video

  • Great filming good job

  • How did you get into St. Neots station to do filming? Don't they have the barriers there which only let you onto the platform if you have a ticket?

  • I travelled in from Peterborough by train. Didnt get bothered by staff.

  • gner class 91 HOLYROOD for ever best loco in the fleet gna miss her :'( until they will put her nameplate back on i will force them to!

  • i think that all of them (apart from 91111) have still got their names. it's just not as visible now

  • Make sure you keep this footage well and truly "in wraps" (even in a Bank safe) - not even 18months old and already historical! Brilliant.

  • lol at the 66 @ 2.32

  • wow! fantastic!

  • Gotta love high speed electrics in the rain, lots of sparks and spray! I do think they should fit the 91s with horns that do them justice though.

  • I went to Newark for the first time didnt realise the speed. Even a freight train was moving.

  • what service runs ECML now

  • The TOC which uses the ECML the most is National Express East Coast. Depending which part you're on, you will see a variety of operators.

  • What's the name of the music at the beginning of the vid?

  • BBC News 24 Countdown

  • interesting tune for a news segment.

  • so-so... Wery good mix! Congrat! I'm hungaryan and i don't know the BR trains, but theese are really beauty and fast...

    1 of Fav vid! :D

  • Thank you!

  • youre so fucking lucky. in birmingham we get nought but voyeurs n pendalinos .. wish we had some 225s!!

  • Yeah I know what you mean but 225s in NatEx livery how crap is that? I still morn for GNER. Seeing there blue Eurostars in Leeds was awesome

  • cool vid and cool name...pendilino freek...cool name and cool vid

  • ahahaha failed 91

  • That 125 Valenta in the opening sequence is just awesome! 0.45 in I think. Fantastic compilation!

  • I have put this in my sons favs. He is 5 and has autism and has enjoyed a few of the train vids on You Tube, but for some reason this made him giggle a lot!!! Thank you for this, it was the high light of my day!!!

  • Glad to have made someone happy.

  • VERY HAPPY!! He watches this EVERY night whilst his dad prepares his bath, lol.

  • cheers to the BBC camera man !

  • 140mph is pretty fast.... I wonder why the English won't take on the French though and make trains like the TGV, to go to places like Manchester from London etc. Sure there is the Eurostar, but that was only designed because to go France and took the English years to make the line fully open at 320km/h. The government in England sound like the government here in Australia, they take years to do something.

  • Said it all in one mate.

  • UK governments can never see beyone the end of their noses when it comes to infrastructure.

We destroyed a third of our rail network in the 1960s and now bitterly regret it- too late, tossers!

  • It's not just a case of making faster trains. As speed increases so does the pressure wave the train creates as it moves through the air. To avoid disrupting other trains you have to decrease that wave 1 of 2 ways. Make the tracks further apart so there's more space or make the noses on locomotives longer and more streamlined - which then creates issues with what sort of corners they can handle. There's a lot more involved than just putting a faster train on the rails.

    Cheers

  • Another issue with putting faster trains on the uk rail network is the way the whole network is built, it essentially means that there are really too many corners for higher speed trains to handle. A lot of the network would need replacing at a huge cost.

you can see this with trains like the TGV because they have their own special lines that are as straight as possible.

  • how cool does the water look spraying off the wires? what is the "plastic" train, I take that is the new fastest train in England? (excpeting the Eurostar)

  • The Class 91s is joint 2nd for being the fastest train in the UK. Eurostar obviously the fastest, the '91' '390' and '395' having a top speed of 140 mph

  • where is the station that your at and i think you got a little wet

  • Huntingdon and St Neots

  • why isnt there any virgin trains

  • Because, this is the south part of the East Coast, Where Virgin don't operate. At the time of filming there was only Hull Trains and GNER operating fast services on the south part of the East Coast.

  • good video

  • That is the whole point of this video, to catch trains at speed!

  • Two ambers means caution but the next signal will not be red, either green or single amber or another double amber.

  • soz also ment to ask wat is it called

  • It's the BBC News 24 2003 Count Down by David Lowe, Unsure if it is still able to get it from iTunes.

  • hey m8 where do you get the starting music frm plz

  • iTunes

  • cool oki thxs m8

  • does anyone knowwhat it means when thesignal flashed 2 ambers?

    thxs steve

  • You'll be going onto a line (possibly a slow line) with a lower speed then the line you're currently on!

  • What station was that Voyager at the beginning blasting through?

  • Nuneaton

  • Nuneaton? I didn't know Voyagers passed Nuneaton, if they were the Wolverhampton-Euston service they wouldn't pass would they?

  • I dont sign the West Coast so I'm not 100% sure mate sorry

  • Yeah its ok pal!

  • I love the straight on view of the valenta.

  • brilliant, ECML at it's best! 5*

  • WCML is taken by Virgin Pendelino's and London Midland trains.

  • Yes, Crap

  • The ECML is the best line in Britian. (And the WCML and LSC)

  • WCML is taken over by crap, ECML far more superior

  • Pendolos are crap,HSTs rule. The eastcoast mainline is a lot faster than the west coast.

  • Just north of New England Junction and south of Werrington Junction all the way through to Stoke Junction that part of track (fast lines) is cleared for a massive 140 MPH, the only track in the UK which is, but yet trains are only limited to 125 for safety reasons. The signals flash green when (if) the trains could reach 140 MPH

  • "... the only track in the UK which is..."

Not anymore, the new high speed link between the channel tunnel and St. Pancras is 186mph.

    -MAS

  • Thats does exclude the CTRL as it goes into foreign land...

St Pancras is a terminus i dont think Eurostars will be doing 186MPH into Pancras!?!?!

  • Nice vid! the first bit was shot in huntingdon but where was the rest of it filmed?

  • St Neots - 10 minutes south of Huntingdon

    and Doncaster

  • oh right, that's just down the line from me. i live in biggleswade. Cheers!!

  • same! lol

  • Great! A greeting from Tuscany

  • This a BBC news Presentation LOL

  • I love the sound of the HSTs.

  • hey you're at huntingdon for the first clip-that's my local town.

  • great vid

    What cam do you use?

  • Cracking! Shame about the weather, ive had days like these thank god for GNER! By the way, I think the 225's horn is the best on the network HST's is by far the loudest. VALENTA'S RULE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • you picked a really fine day weatherwise!

sort of sums up the utterly pants summer this year

  • Not many trains seem to stop at your station mate!

  • That is the whole point of this video...

  • **TOP TIP** dont zoom in after a pass, you loose the impression of speed!

  • At 0:40 i thought u were standin on the track...lol

  • at3.45 u got a bit confused when the 2 trains can pass u lol

225 horns are crap too lol

    still GREAT VID

  • i`ve got to say all the train nhrons make me giggle

  • 4:07 was only one window wiper working??

  • Depends if there is a second man in the cab, the other wiper is on a different control

  • Great vid. Do the BBC know you used their News24 title track?! I noticed the "delayed" announcement at 3:19 - nothing changes!

  • good vid! where was this footage taken from.. after the intro and before the last station..

  • As said above pal

  • pendolinofreek how do you make your videos?

  • Good old Windows Movie Maker, mate

    HTH's

  • really? fasinating never knew WMM could do such a good video!

  • Thanks for that, it take a while to do videos up to a particular standard, but its all the fun and joys of a day out which also counts and help towards a good video

  • This is a very good set of clips!! Well done to all concerned!

  • OK.
