  • I was 18 when this album came out.Listened to it more in 81 than i did in 79.Had a brand new Ford truck and a kick-ass stereo i used to belt this cassette out of.Man those days were awesome.Drinkin and drivin and gettin away with it,drive ins,McDonalds,Parties non stop,Jezuz, wish i could go back.

  • Youtube we dont give a fuck if you made your privacy policy less boring, but when you start removing great songs like this, thats when we ALL have a problem. THE CARS need more recoginition.

  • Rick Ocasek, under-rated genius.

  • @probrojeffro agreed!

  • A time machine? no. Just a good afterlife where you can "re"live any year no matter if your born during the time or not.

  • i really love the way you talk i don't mind saying so and ooh i love it when you dance so silky slow oh baby please don't go i know you refuse to get involved you won't help me out none you run around like a paper doll pretending it's fun oh baby please don't run something in the night just don't sit right looks like i'm gonna be up all night it's been such a long time since i held you i won't forget the way you said it doesn't bother you much tutor impressions in your head just before the last

  • Fuckin Awesome 1979, but it will not come back...

    SHIT!!!!!!!!!

  • I had this album when I was a young pup of 18, and somehow it disappeared from my collection of records, with the end result that I haven't heard the album in almost 30 years now. Hearing some of the cuts off this album again after so long really takes me back in time. Modern audio technology is a funny thing in this case - because brings to life all the fine details that simply couldn't be reproduced with early 80s stereo equipment, so these tunes sound way better now than they did in the past!

  • @SuperTekZone they sell it on amazon for like 10$ bro , just buy it again man

  • i know you refuse to get involved you woný help me out none -i love these lyrics

  • I wonder if the cars stole the it's been such a long time line from the Boston song foreplay long time. cuz candy-o was released 3 years after Boston's eponymous debut album in '76.

  • @trdidion definitely not man

  • it's been such a long time....and I still miss you

  • Thank you Slance

  • It was great being 18 in 1979. Wouldn't trade it for anything. RIP Ben. Miss you so.....

  • @BigTruckAA I was 20........and I hear ya. Trade it all to go back.

  • she had those stand up fake boobs before there were stand up fake boobs!!!???

  • Anyone know where this song reached on the Billboard charts?

  • all i can say is for me it gets no better than the cars...still sounds great at 56...thanks again slance1

  • I'm 13, and this is my favorite soft rock-oriented song!! Absolutely awesome!!

  • @natetheguitarkid : Grasshopper, you will go far!

  • Comment removed

  • @natetheguitarkid THE CARS aren't considered soft rock, They re more Newwave, guitar rock.

  • @THECARS7879

It's called diversity my friend. Sure there mostly guitar oriented rock and new wave, but you cant tell me the cars didnt go beyond guitar rock and new wave, i mean, Drive, Tonight She Comes, they have used just about every rock and pop music genre in the books. to detail all there songs with the same genre is literally impossible. This song comes along way from Drive as much as Youre all ive got tonight comes along way from tonight she comes...

  • Both of the comments are exactly the same...

and there from 2 years ago

    WTF???

  • Wow, bit of a soft rock(er). They go from medium to soft, and then to hardrock, thats the cars for you...

  • When i was at the CARS concert, in Midtown NYC, I seemed to see people of all ages it was great to see how many people remember these guys.

  • I really love the way you talk, I don t mind saying so, and ooh i love it when you dance so silky slow, oh baby please don t go

  • Damn! The first two Albums were badass. Both were basically Greatest Hits. Not a bad song on either one. Nice Job!

  • Quite possibly my all-time favorite Cars song! Hard to pick though. LOVE their new album, "Move Like This"!

  • @Pacisdiligo Yeah this is a favorite of mine too for sure

  • Play This Song When Your Alone With A Lady You've Never Been Alone With..........It Works:)

  • I absolutely love this Elliot Easton can make a guitar talk

  • Slance,Dude, I have now re-lived my earlier years thanks to you.

  • Slance, thank you for posting a real treasure chest of cars material.

  • i read that the cars have a new album on the way? without Ben? it's GOT to be only a rumour! anyway, the cars were definitely one of a kind. they were so unique in every way. nobody sounded like them. when u heard them, u knew who it was. how many bands can u hoensetly say that about, that have surfaced over the last 25-30 years? and David Robinson had a sound and style of his own, big influence on me as a drummer over the years. i'm 40, grew up w/ the cars, always loved 'em-even PANORAMA!

  • @truthaintpretty Dude that's cool that the cars are coming out with a new album. Benjamin Orr died of cancer in 2000.

  • @cruefosho yeah, i just read the other night that it really is true. the album's coming this year. i know, tragic about Ben. according to what i read, a tour has not been confirmed, though. Ben is irreplaceable, of course, but if the cars tour, i guess someone's gonna have to cover the bass! speculation is that it might be Kasim Sultan, who's more than quite capable. it may as well be him. don't know if he can cover Ben's vocals though!

  • @truthaintpretty Word has it that keyboardist Greg Hawkes will handle the bass parts while Ric Ocasek will do all the vocals. .including, of course, the ones that Ben handled. It won't be the same but unless they added a bassist and/or additional vocals, the band hit the road as a four piece unit with all the original members.

  • @truthaintpretty But You Forget.......Panorama Was Followed Up By "Shake It Up" And heartbrake City".......2 huge Cars Albums

  • @fcmike58 Oh believe me, I remember those and I love 'em! I mentioned Panorama 'cos it was probably the least successful, but it's my favourite Cars disc. But I think that we can all agree that critical acclaim means nothing, as I've often said that the fans make the group. I'm sure there were lots of Cars fans in 1980 who still bought Panorama, saw the shows and loved it all, despite the critics. I suppose we all know by now that a new Cars disc is no rumour! Glad they're back but miss Ben!

  • Well I'm 55, And listen to nothing but The cars and Rush.

  • I heard this song exactly ONE time on the radio when Candy-O first came out in the misty summer of '79 when I was 15. Other than that, unless the whole album got played on a midnite album special or something like that you never heard it and I'll never know why. It's one of their better written and performed numbers in every way but no dice when it comes to the radio. So called "classic radio" SUCKS 2day! All day the same songs by the same bands. Ugh!

  • This whole ALBUM!!!!

    ROCKS!!!!!!!

  • Great song..

  • Ha! Haa! I`m 46 and still rocking my way through my 40s. I must say I can`t believe so much time has past by but listening to these guys just makes you feel like you`re back in highschool all over again!

  • @MrGb4ever

I'm 43 and I agree with you 100% sir! Yes sir, I do!

Where has the time gone? They don't make great bands like this anymore do they?

  • @MrGb4ever I have to agree with you 100%. I am also 46 years this year. I love the CARS. The will always be my favorite band. Thanks!

  • The one thing I loved about this band the most was their music always kept me in a great mood growing up. To me, their lyrics were never too deep and dedicated their songs about the ultimate dream girl but in a very unique way. " She`s a lot like you, dangerous type." She`s a frozen fire, she`s my one in desire."

  • Eastons guitar sings in this song, A+

  • Q: Why would he run over that poor girl? A: Because she's a Ginger!

  • Great song! Great Group!

  • Yet another classic Cars tune, Thanks Slance1!

  • THANKS !! I had forgotten so many of the absolute gems on this album!

  • Quite possibly my all-time favorite Cars song. Ocasek was truly a brilliant songwriter. In all sincerity, they simply do NOT make 'em like this anymore.

  • Ahhhh.....Music that even us 50 year old guys can rock to. Gets better with time. Thanks Cars....

  • @thueron Dude that hurts! 50 damn. I will be 50 in three months. Were did it all go. FIFTY???? THAT JUST SUCKS. Mr. Wizard, I dont want to live in the 2000's. As my buddy Eddie Money would say "I wanna go back and do it all over but, I cant go back I know. I wanna go back because I'm feeling so much older but I can't go back I know"

  • @LesSmith45 I hear ya, man, but don't feel bad, cause it's only gonna get better! 50 is an awakening, lets say!..but I do miss 1979...one more replay, just for that summer, God, I would do it much better this time. ...Tina, where are you my luscious redhead?...sigh...We at least have the music to listen to!

  • @thueron I hope your right dude! I am with you all the way on the summer of 79. Mine wasnt a redhead but a blonde and her name was Valerie. Best summer of my life. I dont know if i could do it better but i would love to try. Thanks for the moral suport.

  • @thueron I am rocking my way to 50 with the cars too!!

  • @AUDREYLYUBOV That's the spirit !! It don't stop time from flying, but it helps to have great sounds to remember good times!

And as always, thanks, Cars, and RIP, Ben...

  • I played this album to death in '80, when I was 17. Still gives me goosebumps.

  • @dennis345 Dude, I get goosebumps every time I hear that last solo. I can't help it. That shit is just too good. This was the real Cars.

  • Always loved this song. "since I held youuuuuu"...ahhhhh

  • love this song and the way it enthralls my emotions with the upswing

  • the best cars album! damn i miss the 80's! admit it it, had the best mixture of music!!

  • thank you for posting. brings back memories,

  • Thanx Slance1, u brought back some bloody awesome memories of my teenage years man. Priceless.

  • Just a great, song. These guys realy were flawless back then. I wish Easton and the remaining Cars would have one of those reunion type tours, since I never saw them in their heyday. Or maybe they are touring? Anyway, this song just gets better with time...

  • I like this song so much.. my 1st LP album i bought.. year 79' at SM Makati Phil...

  • great simple rock n roll. very refreshing. Weed helps.

  • man, the layering of guitars and other sound effects is fucking awesome in this track

  • My favorite album from The Cars and one of my fave songs EVER. Easton's solo is amazing. Was in 11th grade of H.S. when this was out!

  • @BlizzardBeastWA Awesome!... so was I. I wore out three 8 track tapes of this. I have a copy on CD in my truck now.

  • @mindlessjrlee Get the lp I am sure you will enjoy the better than cd sound! This is and what was music!!!

  • Joeytroy- I'm with ya...I'm 50 and still proud to rock on with songs like this from a great time, the good old late 70's...man, to go back for just a visit...and the sweet senorita's that used to jam along with sounds like these guys made! :-)

  • This will always be one of my favorites, as a guy who grew up in the late 70's. I'll say it again-that Vargas cover is the hottest , by far. Thanks Cars-wherever you guys have gone...

  • Classic, classic man this album is just full of hits. this just being one of em! Mahalo Slance 1.

  • @hackman55able Mahalo?

  • @Slance1Himself Sorry, spent a lot of time in Hawaii. Mahalo is "Thank You" in poloynesian (Hawaiian) etc.

  • @hackman55able You're welcome then! :)

  • This album and song'reminds of my youth, i was 17 when this album came out, i just got my driver's license and used to cruise around in my dad's car listening to this on 8-track. the Cars are one of my all time favourite bands.

  • The band's backup vocals and other skills save this song...it's bland, as-written and most groups couldn't pull it off, but The Cars can and do.

  • This one of their best songs; beats me how this one never made it on their best of compilations...

  • I was just thinking the same thing Kirby...

  • GMTA!

  • love the cars, this is my all time favorite song from them, and that says a lot, cuz they have a bunch of good ones, thanks for posting

  • The Cars songs-- even "lesser" ones like this-- just explode out of the speakers. I need to re-buy this CD

  • Comment removed

  • Im in my twenties and have just discovered this LP and LOVE IT!!! They rock!

  • Agree my friends. Not ashamed at ALL to be fortysomething and show my age. Wouldnt give up growing up in the times of REAL ROCK for anything.....

  • I hear some of the more obsure songs on this album like this .....Lust For Kicks....You Cant Hold On Too Long....Double Life....and I am instantly back in like 8th grade. Love this record. Hell....just the fact that I still call it a RECORD is telling my age...lol

  • @JoeyTroy Nothing wrong with calling it a 'record' like you remember it. Hell they still have the, "Album of the Year" award on the Grammy's. Which is kind of funny, since the industry doesn't make albums anymore. The kind you put on your turntable. Just like today's lousy movies..., in previews many are proclaimed as the EVENT of the year!" They should have that category in the Academy's. Instead of Best Picture it should be "..., and now the winner for Best Event is...,"

  • I was a little younger than that. 5th grade. I can recall roller skating to disco and new wave at the roller ring including Let's go and my sharona from the knack. The teenagers in the old hood liked van halen cars, Kiss, AC/DC etc. Aww 'RECORDS' as they were called before CDs like this brings back the memories.

  • @JoeyTroy Who cares if you show your age, my friend? It's great music, some of the best I've ever heard, and I'm way older than you. The Cars were great!!!

  • Into my favorites it goes - Thanks

  • Eliot Easton's guitar solo at the end is the best he's ever done. It totally fits the mood of the song. Brilliant!

  • I think the part where Rick sings "It's been a long time", is awesome when the others sing "since I held you"---is SO AWESOME! Melodic....sweet....and really touches me!

  • I'm with you. this brings back so many memories. It's like I'm still 13... It's amazing the power music has, or that we give it.

  • Way ahead of it's time! They captured the era perfectly. Puts me back in time. Thanks for the tribute.

  • Thanx man!!!!!

  • you did a great job,once again

  • Thanks!
