In my careful study of influenza (by now I'm bored with it), most patients that have wheezing, otitis media or added complications is mostly as a result of co-morbid allergy related disease (asthma;hay fever). In the pandemic of the 1920's, the associated virulence may have been due to an overly excessive immune response to the virus. By immunizing children, we protect the elderly and increase the community's heard immunity.
