I wish, you would play YESTERDAY WHEN I WAS YOUNG , because that is exactly my story. There are several versions in YouTube. But none of them can be compared with your compositions.
I think this must have been the piece that got me listening to jazz back in the early seventies. I had a great version played by George Chisolm on his trombone. Just fantastic... thanks!!!!
Mesmerizing. Makes me want to quit playing and not at the same time. Those voiceings...It was fine when he just playing keys, but when the bass and drums came in, Holy Sheets man. To be able to play that with that much ease would be the holy grail for me. Thank you.
simply marvelous, lovely taste and style. this is my favourite ballad i would love to be able to play and this is as close to perfection and understanding of the piece i have heard. bravo!
This is superb and very informative. Playing like this requires a vast amount of experience and I would never be able to play like that without going back to age 7 and starting again! I don't believe the sound we're hearing is a digital piano it sounds like the film is dubbed on the same person's recording on a real acoustic piano. If not I'd love to know what digital piano that is, if it makes a sound as authentic as that. Thank you for recording and playing it - simply wonderful.
Really great sound and style. You've given me some ideas on Laura as to phrasing and beat. A piano teacher once told me, you've got to milk the note, not jump right on the beat. So you've reminded me to take my time and echo some of the same chords in upper and lower octaves. Inner voicings also great.
Its always a pleasure to listen and watch you play with a grace that I only hope that one day I could sit down and effortless play like your good self. Looking forward to "Anything" - not the song, but anything else that you put up on Youtube!
next problem..I have a partial-paralytic left hand.. a real pain (I'm left-handed)! In order to work this out I had to fold and tape two fingers out of the way. It is awkward but I can play up to an octave between the 3rd finger and thumb..and forefinger is free. i'll just have to fill in with my right hand, somehow..but I will play this tune! thnx!
I would love to play this, but you should drop the theory..it's easier to get it from from your hand positions.. It it's beautiful but if you took it a little slower; most of us out here need a lesson.
this is absolutely brilliant, thanks for taking the time to record this and so many others on your website with the midi files. the tuition is greatly appreciated, absolutely immense playing on this one too, so delicate yet complex. please keep making more, if you couuld do one for out of nowhere that would be fantastic. cheers, bren
When I start listening, I'm there mostly to see your written notes where you explain what you are doing harmonically. But no matter how hard I try to keep up with the written notes, once we're halfway into the first chorus, I'm captivated by the magic of the interpretation, and that's all that matters from then on.
I remember I requested this song a while back.Man you play it beautifully.I am also a piano player but I am one of your fans. You are my idol man. When I go to Australia, I'll try to get in touch with you. Where in Australia do you live. Again YOU ARE GOOD.Could you post your version of Autumn in New York? Thanks and Keep it up. We are listening.
Thank you so much for your hard work in uploading this information and the opportunity to listen to good music. I hope to be able to figure out some of what you are doing and apply it.
Thank you for all these great performances and for the explanations...They'll be very useful for my way of playing. I'll start studying hard! Thank you again, Thomas
It is one thing to understand in theory what you are doing, it is an entirely different process to apply it in such a harmonically rich and virtuosic manner, with the subtle dynamics and rhythmic intricasies that you do - just amazing. I will be studying this (and your other videos) for months.
I go crazy over your videos! Don't ever stop! :) How about some latin pieces like Brazilian Suite (which you have a mp3-recording of on your homepage) or smoe Camilo? Thanks once again for these videos. They are more helpfull than anything on the internet... and way more musical as well :)
