  • 良い、私は本当に日本人ではないよ、ハハ。それは本当にクールな日本語を学ぶです。あなたが専門家のように取得希望!決してあきらめない!

  • what about the onyomi and kunyomi?

  • Why in the world would you want to study Japanese?? If its to talk shit on them in there own language THEN i totally understand. But honsetly they are heartless selfish poeple!!! Fact!

  • you make some pretty awesome videos and because of that you just got another subscriber :P keep up da great work

  • @markmy97 thanks a ton!

  • You might want to check out this vid.

I invite everyone to post ther kanji reading video responses, specially if you used the RTK for learning Kanji.

Does the Heisig method really work? - Me reading japanese (漢字,kanji) off the internet

  • @japanesechallenge Heisig totally works for me but it's not for everyone.

  • Hi, I find your videos very motivating! And im just starting out in Japanese. But i dont know whether i should learn to speak it first or read and write first. You said in a comment above you can make sense of basicly everything you see in Japanese and i was wandering if you could lead me in the right direction to start? PLEASE REPLY!!!

  • I'm currently studying Japanese in Tokyo, I have been here for about 1 year and 2 months. I have to say the kanji study is a real pain in the ass, at least if you're studying it while studying the language. A tip thogh if you study the language is to buy an electronic dictionary, it's a lifesaver. They range in prize between about 6 000 and 50 000 yen but I would advice to buy one for around 20 000 (mine was 23 000) they are really convenient and have a lot of things in them.

  • I ordered this book today, and I'm hoping it helps. I have some basic Japanese grammar under my belt from some lessons from a native speaker and Minna no Nihongo (man that book is dry). I really want to expand my vocabulary, and actually remember it later.

Also, have you used the other books in the series at all, and if so do you find them useful?

  • I should point out that I'm also using RTK1. I've reached 323 kanji, and I use anki, smart.fm, and iSRS for iPhone to study. Great FUN xD

  • Another great one! Highly motivating. I appreciate you. ありがとうございます。

  • if u are gonna learn 1 kanji per day that means it is going to take you over 2000 days to speak like a regular japan

  • I learn some kanji using the 'Remembering the Kanji' book you describe, but I had to return it to the library. Now I'm just learning using some programs in my cellphone when I'm on the go.

  • I would like to go to Japan in a year, and would like to maximize my ability to understand spoken Japanese and be able to respond verbally in Japanese. Is learning Kanji useful for learning to speak Japanese? Should I allocate some of my short amount (one year) of studying time to learning Kanji? Or would my tmie be better spent just focusing on listening/speaking only?

  • If you use the Heisig book to learn/practice kanji, how do you learn the readings?

  • dude this seems like a really great way to learn kanji ! I just started learning japanese and I think this will work good for me :) thanks for sharing *like

  • Hey Delertmon, I did the same as you and finished RtK1, very good stuff, gota keep up those anki reviews thou. After that the Kana, great :) and now I'm on sentences which I used smart.fm and Japanese for Busy People plus music and films/anime/manga/fnn/my os//websites. It takes awhile but every minute is a minute well spent and enjoyed, love it :) Keep up the good work I think I might have been around the 400 mark in RtK only 9 months ago. Oh and check out jisho.org

  • I Use that same book. its such a fantastic deal and it does work. i dont know why it has such a bad reputation, i mean it works for me. Great video im subscribing. Stay safe. Peace

  • Delbertmon,

Your video has inspired to me try even harder to learn the language. I'm in my second semester of studying Japanese and I use the Genki textbook, I will definitely check out the Kanji book you suggested. This video along with Hiko's made me realize how little I know and made me want to know more. Thank you! いつか私と日本語で話しましょうよ!

  • I so agree with you 100% i currently own all three of these books and i finished the part one about 3 months ago and i retain 92% of them all with out having to really think about them and without having to go back to the books and brush up on them (all i still do that every now and then better safe then sorry) i don't remember the stories any more just the correlation between the symbol and the keyword heisig is a god send with these books

  • Genial, esa sí es una inmersión total

    gracias por los consejos :D

  • Man your vids motivate me! Love the way you approach learning nihon. Im doing my best to learn as much as I can before I move to Japan in a year and your vids are a big help

    dumo arigato gozimas

    ganbatte!

  • I must say, having finished my the kanji course I describe in the video, I can't share your opinion. Currently I can make sense of almost anything I come across in Japanese and am happily chugging along picking up readings and extra meaning in context. At some point to learn another language you must connect it to one you already know. My method approaches meanings first and helps to keep the slight visual differences neatly separate in my mind so I don't confuse 薬 with 楽, for example.

  • @delbertmon glad to hear that someone has finished it, i was wondering whether anyone actually made it to the end. iv stalled at 500 and am trying to rehearse the ones iv learnt first!

  • @blahk04 is anki a free program, and if it is, can u send me the link thx a bunch :)

  • ATATT its so great really gets you motivated into this insane mind set youve never been in before, i got me a copy of the book 1 month and ago and thats me hit 734 right there so more than pleased its a great book makes it soo fun to learn.

  • yeah i bought me ai mport japanese ps2 and have like 6 games its fun because stuff you study you here on the game I use genki 2 and chukyuu Nihongo intermediate japanese book I just bought the remembering kanji book and i only listen to japanese tv shows and music

  • A shorted version of my thoughs on the video:

You rock and I'm motivated ^^

    5/5

  • @Bikuto90 Thanks! If you want to compare notes about learning the language feel free to message me or something.

  • Hello delbertmon! I am currently learning Japanese as well, but I've been feeling very discouraged. I live in California and I don't have anyone to practice Japanese with and eventually I forget most of what I learned. But I'm going to check out the sites and method you mentioned! Thanks a bunch :]

  • Exactly the same situation here, kushinbou. Its pretty difficult

  • @kushinbou @tehiyeh my method places actual speaking last. if you are always having japanese input of some kind you along with SRSing everyday, you shouldn't be forgetting stuff... hmmm... i'll make a video about immersion.

  • Thanks! You're so awesome!:D

  • @delbertmon I just watched your immersion video. I love it and will be working hard to implement your suggestions so that I have near-constant Japanese input.

    I'm so excited!! ♥

  • @kushinbou hey, im begining to learn japanese too and i live in california, idk if it would help us both but maybe we can study japanese together

  • ajatt ftw!

  • @urpiainen ajatt ftw

  • are you learning just the meaning? no readings of how to say them?

  • I used genki too. Trust me it looks better than Yookoso, and it's probably the best text book to start off with so you don't become discouraged. But yes, I feel that RTK is the way to go when you hit the intermediate level. Anyways I agree with your approach completely, although to be honest playing will generally not teach you as much as honest drilling. On the other hand, what you learn when "playing," (or immersing yourself in fun language learning) will stick much better, in my experience.

  • Hey Keyinruegulus3,

I think you and I are on the same page. The fact playing video games, watching tv, and reading manga isn't "study" but play is exactly the point. Choosing Japanese as my free time language not only lowers the mental distraction of English, but also increases the odds of unconscious reinforcement. When I study, I study. Textbook out, learning brain on.

  • Lol All Japanese all the time influence?I do the same thing.

  • i'm doing my bachelor in languages now, learning japanese. gonna try chinese when i'm "done". at the university we use the genki books. that coupled with nice and smart teachers works awesome for me. except when it comes to kanji. so i think i'm going to check out your method. had my first exam couple of weeks ago and even though i passed, i forgot several kanji and it messed up a bunch of stuff like basic translation of texts and use of particles. nice vids dude. make more hiking vid ;)

  • whats the site called?

  • love the shirt

  • I was raised in Japan, but never learned to read and write japanese.

Right now, I am taking a Japanese course in University in Canada.

I am gonna try out the book that u are using.

  • I've been using a bunch of the same stuff. I went through RtK1 at a lesson a day for two months. I review it every day. AJATT is definitely the best motivation, he makes you feel like it is definitely less daunting than it seems. Genki... well we have to use it for class but I am incredibly bored by it. It provides "A [grammar point] B [grammar point" which doesn't translate to learning real Japanese, in my opinion. Therefore I got Kanji Odyssey 2001 which helps study kanji and has sentences.

  • You are lucky. I started this method and kind of gave up although I do still do practice some of the stuff like watching Japanese tv but I've given up on RTK. From doing it for a while I concluded that you a) Really do need to be in Japan for the method to be consistent and b) Need a lot of money if you want to buy Japanese games, books, dvds etc. If you are outside of Japan, and still in full time education, it really isn't possible. At least it isn't possible for me :P Anki ftw though.

  • this is awesome. Thanks for sharing this.

The concept where you remember Kanji through stories is fascinating.

    Awesome video!

  • i use tom's products!!!!! good stuff, doesn't last as long as aluminum stuffs but with the right upkeep its just as good. awesome!! i use lavander. oh thanks for the websites!!!

  • haha. I use Tom's namely out of nostalgia because I'm from Maine.

  • you know... i actually did the doggie head tilt to this statement. i didn't quite understand the correlation of using tom's and living in maine, UNTIL i read the product name thoroughly. i'm from louisiana (hate crawfish) and not very worldly. BUT i'm working on it.

anyhoo, good luck on your japanese!

  • Maaaan.... The AJATT and kanji sites are the bomb! People should just stop the whole school-style approach and do that instead.

  • It's not for everyone, but it certainly has revolutionized my language approach.

  • i really really respect you foreigners in japan i didn't really have to learn anything to move to kazakhstan, main language being russian witch i already spoke you and the other JVloggers inspiration to really understand and get immersed in the culture your living inspires me to learn kazakh

  • it's mad fun to put yourself in a completely foreign situation and slowly become fully functional with language and culture, but rough at times for sure.

Russian is supposed to be more difficult than Japanese or Chinese... sweet.

  • Russian is difficult, but not nearly as difficult as Japanese or Chinese from a native English speakers perspective. I'll send you a couple good links for language comparison.

  • Keep up the good work. I'm having a rough transition to sentences at the moment. It's a steep learning curve at first, but I'm not worried about it.

  • Keep it fun, you'll make it.

  • "All Jpanese, all the time" is definitely right on. Of course, a good basic is necessary, no doubt. But, after that, how to motivate yourself is always the key as you said in this video. Watch TV News programing everyday even if you do not understand, and watch TV shows that you can enjoy like silly physical comedy shows. And read something not too difficult and can grasp your attention long enough like manga, mystery books for young kids or even some adult. Good luck!

  • Dude thanks for telling us about that kanji website,

i just try'd it out and its awsome!

    5 stars :P
