Thank you Steve Coogan/ "Tommy Saxondale" for pointing my in this fabulous direction....The music was around as I grew up coz mums a hippy/folky,so I listened to anything but for years....glad I grew up lol :)
Somehow this music is to today's folk rock the way Mozart and Beethoven were to Classical music today. Maybe not this particular Pentangle song but yeah, even this one. I can't back this statement up. You'll have to check out their music and see for yourself.
@buddy6713 You're so right - I know exactly what you mean . Apart from Eliza Carthy, Alasdair Roberts and the unsung and ephemeral Eighteeth Day of May , nothing interesting or remotely inventive has arrived on the folk scene since the early 70s. Do you remember how exciting it was to first hear "Jack Orion" given the Pentangle treatment ?
Since years and years this tune goes around in my head - now at last I've found it. Pentangle had a unique approach and instrumental setting, but then again this one is even more special and has such a catchy melody line. Thanks for posting

No one cares who's better than who. We enjoy the music. Even you guys deserve a bit of respect, if you'd get off your complaining asses and actually learn to play an instrument!
sampled?? wtf are you on about, this guy is layin it down. ohers may copy and thats as far as it goes. the drummer is a fuckin genius. i really cant think of anyone better. Densmore comes close and thats about it!
It's a shame, but you hear the least about Densmore of all the Doors. I always thought he was brilliant. Knew exactly what every song needed. Maybe since he wasn't flashy and trying to draw attention to himself...
dude, they weren't saying Pentangle sampled the drums. what they were saying is that it's surprising no one, to our knowledge, has used the drum intro as a sample. Now y'all calm down.
hey Usulkane, not so sure about Stew Copeland but the fact u picked out Densmore tells me that you you and me are on the same level. they are my fav drummers of all time. Bonham this, Baker that NO WAY Cox and Densmore aint out of the book. Totally unique. Nice one ;)
@cgoracle Terry Cox rolls out the meanest break beat at the beginning of this tune! He is a much overlooked drummer who gets next to no recognition, and he sings back up, so cool. The whole group are insanely good musicians, I mean is there anything Bert Jansch can't do? Very cool performance.
I am a newcomer to this band but the more I hear the more I like. I'll be buying some of their stuff very soon. Rockworld is right. The upright bass really adds a lot and it is about ten times harder to play than an electric. I love Jacqui's voice, although I have trouble visualizing the wedding dress when she is singing the song in plaid slacks. Nonetheless, a great performance.

i watch this video pretty much once a month....through really big speakers...the cd version does not kick as much ass as this....anyone know where i can find an mp3 of this??
geez, was every camera operator in the sixties and seventies on drugs or what! a wonderful arrangement, two great guitar players, and we get to watch the bass...very nice harmonies...another nice version of this song is by Jody Stecher on his album 'Snake Baked a Hoecake'.
Yes, this was actually sampled by Massive Attack on Unfinished Sympathy, just discovered this as I type! I've just got into Pentangle in recent months, but was a fan of massive attack back in the day!
Sirlongpass yoo are just astoundingly profound for having fished and caught this, my favorite pent song ever, and one of my top 3 songs i've yet heard for the obvious reasons... no werds can relay what deep gratitude and appreciation i have felt since finding it the day after yoo posted it, ironically the first time i decided to search yootube for these immortals. i don't really care they didn't mike the bass right, because if yoo know the song yoor head plays right along for yoo... much love ty
Thanks to whoever upladed this.

Maybe it was sampled, it's pretty close to the drum sample in Eric B & Rakim's Paid In Full

Seconding concentrated. Bert was never a crazy guy who put on a big thing. He just got up there and played better than most pickers who ever lived.

Well, certainly not high, possibly a bit loose with wine, but is there any great musician who is not a bit mad?

In a perfect world there would be no pain, no hunger and no tambourines.
nathanielbagshot 3 years ago
You know, it's not so bad if you just picture in your mind that it's not a tambourine, it's a bunch of bells attached to the feet of Morris dancers.
Morris dancers who are twirling around and leaping through the air, trailing long white handkerchiefs.
Then it's pretty cool.
