  • Please Note: This project was part of a Bioethics class in which we were challenged with the task of firstly: figuring out how the hell to even "make" a You Tube video with audio, and secondly, we we obligated to try and argue "in favor" of a free market system. The views presented in this video are NOT the personal views of the author. I simply left it up for other students who may be in need of random clips pertaining to this subject matter.

  • ...allocation from cadaveric donors needs to be reworked, this would reduce the organ shortage. For example, making organ donation mandatory after death unless the cadaver has religious reasons to not donate. Prisoners on death row should be encouraged to donate their organs after death. Focus needs to be put on the above and on medical research using stem cells and xenotransplantation (animal organs), it should not be put on such a stupid stupid idea such as this. Dr. Drew Carey you are a moron

  • the rest of their lives. A free market system, or compensation system would eliminate back alley organ donors I guess, all 4 of them, but this is really not an issue and shouldn't be considered. Even allowing a family member to donate organs to a specific person is unethical as it puts pressure on that family member to make a choice that they would rather not make, all donations should be done for free, without any recognition given, this is the only ethical means of the practice. Organ allocat

  • If they implemented compensation for organ donation but not the ability to purchase organs (keeping the waiting list as is) it would probably increase the number of available organs - reducing the number or people on the waiting list. This would come at the cost of exploitation of the poor, anyone with money would not risk going under the knife, but those without the means to support themselves or their family most likely would. It puts unfair pressure on them to make a choice that will affect..

  • This exploitation of the poor essentially makes them a crop for the rich. When faced with the choice of going without food or whatever and selling your kidneys for cash the decision will not be made with a clear head. It is immoral and unethical to allow this, the pros are non existant if it is a buy and sell market, those waiting for an organ will just have different names and smaller wallets it will not eliminate the need for organs, just unfairly distribute them

  • This is stupid, I understand the reasoning but they are missing a key aspect of the dilemma. Only the poor are going to sell their kidneys, only the rich could afford them. A free market organ trade would only further separate the poor and the rich. They talk about nations with a legal organ market, but what they fail to mention is that in the countries (like india for example) the compensation is only a thousand dollars or less but the cost is in the 10s of thousands....

  • organ donation should remain as a gift. by having an option to sell, the poor will be misrepresented. If the poor need money they will sell their organs and not take any considerations into the process or complications about organ donation.

if this were to happen organs would not be a gift, they would become 'goods' and where could the line be drawn? who's to say you couldn't sell an eye.

this idea is open to fraud and is unethical. Who will stop mentally impaired people being abused.
