It's not a fake. It was hidden because of its content even from his manager. As for Venus In Furs, it was around and being played by VU before the release of the album proper, as were other VU songs. Bowie actually got his hands on a white label pressing pre-release. Most people didn't hear this song until it appeared on a bootleg in the early 80's, and even his bandmates new he was basically just playing in the studio when he put it on tape.
Dunno. I think it is a fake - VU's White Light/White Heat was released in 1969 and would have been difficult to find in the UK, yet he is "quoting" from Venus in Furs. He only acknowledged the VU in the liner of Hunky Dory.
While it sounds like early DB, it is maybe too much like his Anthony Newley style and it is more explicit than either Let Me Sleep Beside You or In The Heat of the Morning... I am not convinced at all.
I thought that I knew EVERYTHING by Bowie. I was shocked to have found this! It is SOOOO a rip off from The Velvets 'Venus in Furs'! I love it! One of the reasons I love David is his ability to 'borrow' from others! This sounds like his 'Images' days. I must look up when this was recorded. It fits right in with 'She's Got Medals' 'Uncle Arthur' and all of those remarkable songs.
I love it ! He's always been a uniquely imaginative songwriter,.. but his stuff from THIS really early period seems like it was more humorous ( and is therefore special in it's own right ). So then, before Major Tom and Ziggy Stardust there was Little Sadie aye ?
@xxpiggystardustxx Yes. Something als about these really early songs thats very peculiar and intriguing. They seem alot like childrens songs on the surface,.. yet, thematicaly, theres some kind of bizarre, edgy, dark or poignant twist to them. It's really quite understanable why they weren't very succesful in their imediate time despite how good alot of them are.
@MenOnEarthII Well his voice certainly isn't a damn thing like Bob Dylans ( thank God ! ) and the themes of his songs were never anything really similar either. But some of his music from this era was in that same folkish style.
jesus....straight forward rip off from venus in flies...a demo perhaps...with giggle of laughing gnome esqueness....sounds like the stuck together sweepings of deram album....we are hungry men agin
Like a sadist version of Syd's Bike
