  • Terry Williams was the best drummer they ever had. He's bloody awesome in this concert.

  • No kidding!

  • I am 15 years old and this is one of my favourite songs :)

  • @misslauraryan it's the same for me ;D

  • @Thedaftpunker24 Amazing :)

  • can someone PLEASE tell me where i can find tabs for alchemy version???

  • Superb recording from a wonderful band who were probably at the peak of their powers in the 1983 -1986 era. What a shame Mark Knopfler plays so little of this material on his solo tours.

None of his solo stuff comes anyway near this standard.

  • the music intro in the begining of vidoe, its the best music i heard ever, great band, high level in lyrics and great feelings in music

  • what is the name of the song before the tunnel of love?

  • what is the name of the song before the tunnel of love?

  • awesome band, awesome performance. Dire Straits were at the peak of their powers at this time.Mind you Mark Knopfler continues to turn out some mighty impressive solo material.

Still think that the oldest stuff was the best though.

  • what does he says before he announced the song plz ? too fast for a french guy :/ thx!

  • @makn0 this brazilian guy will try to help :)

"Song about growing up, song about being in love, song about being in a band, song about all kinds of things. Place in Newcastle called Spanish City, I used to go there [??? audience covers his voice]"

and sorry, i couldn't get the last sentence, something about rock 'n roll music and The Animals.

  • @HagLucas really thx brazilian guy! helpfull ! :)

  • two people are justin bieber fans :/

  • The Tone out his Schecter is so damn powerful, B E A U T I F U L!

  • See at 5.00 Alan Clarke is singing along behind Mark, laughing and he makes a microphone gesture with his hand for the 'always tell you where I am' line! I copped this on the remastered DVD recently. Never noticed it before cos I had this on VHS tape in the 80s and it was dark and murky! Great concert brings back so many memories of 1986 when I got into the Straits. Tunnel of Love is a great song with great guitar! Ah the memories!

  • @1969atam Always found that pretty funny Alan mocking Mark

  • This intro is really great. It just never gets boring. Mark and his men are true heros!

  • Just brilliant.

  • 1 person is ...not so music oriented

  • 1 is Justin Bieber

  • 1 dick with no ears

  • ..il più bel brano di tutti i tempi..nella sua versione più bella..nel più bel concerto di sempre..dal chitarrista più grande di tutti..non sia accettano opinioni contrarie..:-)))))..

  • I've always loved Dire Straits, we bought this Hammersmith Odeon DVD this weekend at a flea market; listened to it Saturday night and were completely blown away.

  • buaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa me encantaaa

  • Is Mark using a pick for the Rythm part? .-.

  • oh shit! this is unreal!

  • What great Band, wonder what happened to Alan Clark, he was great.

I used to work with Johns brother many years ago.

  • oh please! this is unreal!

  • If you watch the two parts of the video, you'll know why nobody disliked it!

  • Whenever I go back home to my parents in the Netherlands, me and my dad jump on the couch and play the air-guitar on this song... I love it

  • Only Dire Straits can have 0 dislike :)

  • "A place in Newcastle called the Spanish City"

  • @raulashenko The Spanish City was class back then but its closed now :-(

  • Hmmm, Mark Knopfler...Jerry Seinfeld...........same person? Lost twins?

  • @caymans100 Ha i always said he looked like the bastard love child of Jerry Seinfeld and Garry Shandling

  • that beginning sax is EPIC AS SHIT!

  • Tremendo temazo!!! Thanks for posting!!!

  • you get +1 for putting this on the interwebs

you get +1 for your excellent taste in music

you get +1 for listing all the band members correctly

    however...

you get -10 for naming them "The Dire Straits". The band is called "Dire Straits".

But I forgive you completely... this music makes me smile, every time I hear it :-)

  • @pbosman79 i hope he was trying to make them know that its the one and only

  • oh my god, how i love this version of this song

  • alan clark (pianist) Has some fun in the background 4:55

  • is the second guitarist, brother of mark knopfler?

  • @llangol that's cool

  • @llangol yeah me too amazing gig ...saw MK in Dubai in 05 stll the best of the best

  • When I heard this version I almost falled down from my chair!!! Largely I`m so tired to present day`s music. For the most part it`s just the business. We need this kind of music and bands to save the present day`s shit!!!

  • Love the Animals 'Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood' tribute

  • @Malarkee0809 tribute to what??

  • I was lucky to have been in the audience that night and it still stands as one of the greatest gigs of my life. People used to knock them for sounding just like the record, but this live version and Mark's vocal and lyric changes take the studio cut to a whole other level. Magical...

  • I also got the original double LP back in the day ! Now I ordered the DVD, just came out. Totally classic performance from one of rock's greatest live bands. Great Respect

  • encore une petite merveille......

  • no matter how many times i watch this i am blown away by it all. from the intro all way to the end .... the guitar sax, bass , keyboard everything !! a brilliant song , by a truly brilliant band mark knopfler you are the daddy of guitar , and everyone in the band have helped me through my life with this classic , i have a dodgy job with ups and downs , and when i am depressed anxious , over worked, this song gets played because i kno this song brings me back to the high points ...total legends

  • Sadly, the Spanish City at Whitly Bay closed a few years ago....... the Tunnel of Love was a favourite of all the young boys, because that was where we had our first sexual experiences..... Thank God Mark Knopfler, a local boy from Gosforth Grammar school wrote such a wonderful song about it...... Happy memories, knoff!!!

  • 6:07 - 6:10: Haha did Knopfler say "Twist by the pool" there? Ironic!

  • Poetry+Art+Good Music+Originality=Dire Straits

  • Poetry+Art+Good Music+Originality=Dire Straits

  • superb intro

  • This has to be the best intro(lasting longer than a lot of (very) ordinary records ever). Brilliant.

  • @rwebster84 well picked up...im sure your a detective...all the best

  • oh yeah

  • This live version of this song is the best I've heard....I want it to be played at my funeral, cause I'll be passing through the tunnel of love when I die.

    Dire Straits for eternity

  • the fuking best oh yeah

  • AMAZING!

  • wow!

  • First time I heard this, I was about 13, and it was on a tape I had borrowed from the library. They had only part 2 of Alchemy. I thought the intro here and the part of Telegraph Road where he sings "You had your head on my shoulder you had your hand in my hair // Now you act a little colder like you don't seem to care // But believe in me baby and I'll take you away // From out of this darkness and into the day" was the most beautiful things I'd ever heard. They still touch me.

  • That's also my favorite part of Telegraph Road!

  • @SpiritLevelBubble just thank whomever the world still has romantics...........This is our music...our bible ...our soul...

  • @SpiritLevelBubble bulls eye ... I really had the same feeling ...

  • @SpiritLevelBubble The same, these lyrics speaks to me like no other else. But i just lived tonight the same story as in tunnel of love. I let her runaway and i don't know why. Hope i'll see her once again...

  • @SpiritLevelBubble what about "And what have you got at the end of the day?

What have you got to take away?

A bottle of whiskey and a new set of lies

Blinds on the window and a pain behind the eyes" in Private Investigations

  • I (L) MEL COLLINS

  • this is The Version, with Mel Collins intro!

  • @FREDKO22 The Brothers in Arms Concert had this intro, was Alchemy with the then, new single 'Brothers in Arms' . Saw it it 1985.

  • @FREDKO22 the sax intro is one of themost beautiful pieces of D.S. live ithink!
