I like this set up!! I'm building one for the back of my go cart! Its perfect!! Allows up and down travel like a normal solid axle kart but with a 1inch Heim joint on the front it will also allow for articulation!! Now a bump on one back tire won't throw the kart sideways!!
Actually, Jim Fay is the producer of the Fay's 2. Yeah, they are spendy. The one for my Firebird cost me $650+shipping, but it's a very different car (much better) now that it's got one. Strano has nothing to do with Fay, AFAIK.
The guy who designed the watts-link (who has mad skills) stopped making and manufacturing the part, so they really aren't available anymore. This was something like 2+ years back when he stopped.
Yeah...he was pretty old guy, so he stopped making them...not bad for a dude born in the 1700's LOL His name was James Watt....hence the modern-day name "Watts link" for cars. A GREAT old idea applied to modern vehicles. Actually, I believe certain cars (Mazda rx7??) used these from the factory...but I'm not sure.
It replaces a traditional "panhard bar" in a 4-link rear suspension. With a panhard bar, there is a mount on the axle on 1 side and the frame on the other. When the vehicle travels up and down, it will cause your axle to shift vertically. If you don't have a lot of suspension travel, it's no big deal but if you have a lot like me it looks gay. A watts-link keeps your axle completely centered during suspension travel.

@dbzgt545, I think it would; conceptually. I do agree that you would likely want bigger heims and fatter rods.

Sam Strano makes something really close to that called a "Fays2Watts Linkage". Looking at getting one for my car.
