Fedor had all the confidence that his punch was going to land. You can just tell- he was totally off balance after he threw it. He put everything into it. Awesome. Brett's jaw must have hurt for a month.

Honestly, Fedor's biggest problem is the fact that his boxing is not fluid by no stretch. Its not technical, no skill to it. He relies on huge looping punches. Yes I did see UFC 1 actually. Thats not the point though. Im not saying boxing is way better than MMA and im not saying MMA is better. What I am saying is both spots should be respected because both require skill, that most of the people on the internet talking smack dont have.
But they are better. Boxers can only punch. Fedor can: punch, kick, kick with a knee, use his elbows, use his wrestling, use his takedowns. That's much more complex than just punching. If he fought a boxer, he would just lowkick him to hell or throw or plant boxers face on the concrete pavement. Boxing is not the best way to avoid takedowns, really. That's why all combat martial arts focus both on striking and wrestling.

@RuskiTytan Minotauro has been training boxing since he was a kid, but I never wrote he was a boxer. If you seriously think that MMA fighters don't use boxing or have pro boxing trainers then you don't follow MMA closely (that's not a put down). No Minotauro and Couture have some of the best boxing in the HW's. To be honest the HW division is the weakest in MMA IMO, judging MMA on that really isn't a good idea watch a BJ penn, A silva or GSP fight.
I'm only interested in HW, so I'm not going to argue about "how much boxing there is in Silva's striking", because I just don't know.
To sum it up: no one in MMA uses standard boxing (because that would be just asking for atakedown and G&P), there are no succesful ex boxers in HW MMA. IMO I have proved my point, that boxing doesn't work in MMA.
And Fedor punches in a typical for sambo way. It worked against every one of his opponents I think one day you'll see many more sambo-punchers in HW.
@RuskiTytan The reason why ex boxers aren't successful is because they are past their prime. They are usually 30 plus not the age to begin learning take down defense and BJJ to fight with pros. The reason more boxers don't do it in their prime is because the pay is low compared to boxing. Of course they don't use standard boxing just like noone uses standard Muay Thai, wrestling or BJJ it has to be adapted to MMA. Boxing is sucessful in MMA, you need to watch non-HW's to see that
IMO Fedor with his sambo punching is much better striker than Nog or Couture. You have to remind yourself what Fedor did to Nogueira in their 3rd fight. Almost 90% of the time it was standup and Fedor just destroyed him. Of course Fedor is extremely fast, but Nog had better reach and was training "proper" boxing for many years. And it didn't help him. From what I saw Nog's striking in standup clearly doesn't work and Coutere is even worse.
@RuskiTytan Fedor is unique... trying to strike like Fedor and beating the caliber of opponents he has would be like trying to fight like Roy Jones Jr becoming world champ. The Red Devil's camp does not produce similar caliber opponents to Fedor, however Greg Jackson's gym, Pat Militech's gym, Black house, American Top Team, Xtreme Couture and AKA produce top caliber fighters.... Fedor's training, camp, and style only works for him. Seriously watch other weight classes you'll see adapted boxing
And one more thing - IMO Fedors punching technique is by no means inferior to boxing. Someone told, that Fedor has no good boxing technique. IMO Fedor is a very technical fighter and if there was some better way to punch, he would clearly use it.

I'm only interested in HW, so I'm not going to argue about "how much boxing there is in Silva's striking", because I just don't know.
To sum it up: no one in MMA uses standard boxing (because that would be just asking for atakedown and G&P), there are no succesful ex boxers in HW MMA. IMO I have proved my point, that boxing doesn't work in MMA.
And Fedor punches in a typical for sambo way. It worked against every one of his opponents I think one day you'll see many more sambo-punchers in HW.

@RuskiTytan The reason why ex boxers aren't successful is because they are past their prime. They are usually 30 plus not the age to begin learning take down defense and BJJ to fight with pros. The reason more boxers don't do it in their prime is because the pay is low compared to boxing. Of course they don't use standard boxing just like noone uses standard Muay Thai, wrestling or BJJ it has to be adapted to MMA. Boxing is sucessful in MMA, you need to watch non-HW's to see that

IMO Fedor with his sambo punching is much better striker than Nog or Couture. You have to remind yourself what Fedor did to Nogueira in their 3rd fight. Almost 90% of the time it was standup and Fedor just destroyed him. Of course Fedor is extremely fast, but Nog had better reach and was training "proper" boxing for many years. And it didn't help him. From what I saw Nog's striking in standup clearly doesn't work and Coutere is even worse.

@RuskiTytan Fedor is unique... trying to strike like Fedor and beating the caliber of opponents he has would be like trying to fight like Roy Jones Jr becoming world champ. The Red Devil's camp does not produce similar caliber opponents to Fedor, however Greg Jackson's gym, Pat Militech's gym, Black house, American Top Team, Xtreme Couture and AKA produce top caliber fighters.... Fedor's training, camp, and style only works for him. Seriously watch other weight classes you'll see adapted boxing

And one more thing - IMO Fedors punching technique is by no means inferior to boxing. Someone told, that Fedor has no good boxing technique. IMO Fedor is a very technical fighter and if there was some better way to punch, he would clearly use it.

I think anybody who took a right hand like that...Even in the UFC heavyweight division, including their champ Lesnar, would be floored. We haven't seen Lesnar's chin tested and I think if he got hit this hard he would share a similar fate.
