  • Amazing sounds! What kind of keyboard is required for interfacing into the modular?

  • @p0pkorn88 - You can use any keyboard with midi and connect it via the Q104 module.

The dotcom keyboard in my setup provides both analog (Pitch/Gate) and MIDI signals

  • Comment removed

  • wow that sounds nice

  • So the patch cables: They are just typical 1/4" right? Nothing special? So I could theoretically run a guitar through the filter? WIth the use of the instrument interface?

  • @guitar4hireMETAL - Yes you can do that! Its the 1/4" cables,yes.

  • silly typical no interesting sounds

  • @panulli4 a voltage controlled amplifier can be used for quite a lot, placing a vca between any signal source and any input.gives you the ability to control the effect of that connection with control voltage signals!

  • @modgemtb you can absolutely make a modular polyphonic, but you don't just need more oscillators, you need input devices (keyboards, theremins, whatever) that can deal with polyphony or a midi to CV converter that can handle polyphony.

  • every touch of the key makes a click....I hope it is possible to remove that.

  • @dervishmadwhirler -Yes it depended on the positions of ADRS(attack, decay, relese and sustain). No problem!

  • do u think you could make a modular polyphinic by putting in more oscillators

  • is it DIY?

  • too much spagetti ,man !

  • I love the way this sounds.

  • What do you use the second amplifier module for? I am probably quite clueless, but I don't see much sense in having a second amlifier module :S

  • all your uploads are beautiful. Thanks you!

  • @hanzabass -You are very kind, thanks!

  • I wonder if these kind of instruments are one type of windows to another dimension because when I listening them, I'm starting a feel of pleasure in my brain.

No drugs of course! just sound, beautiful electronic sound, great!.

  • Probably a dumb question but polyphonic or monophonic? and also what was the cost of all this together? Im thinking im going to get the starter rig set...

  • @guitar4hireMETAL- Its a monophonic synth. I recommend you to visit their homepage-there you will find all the information about modules, prices and so on. I think my system(included the keyboard controller) was something like 3.300 u.s.

  • Nice video! Is it a System 22 or a custom configuration? If custom, is its module map available? Thanks for putting the video up!!

  • @exxtra5 -Thanks, its a custom configuration. The modules are: (Front panel left to right) Q105 Slew Limiter Q106 Oscillator Q106 Oscillator Q141 Oscillator Aid Q106 Oscillator Q110 Noise Source Q116 Ring Modulator Q125 Signal Processor Q130 Clipper & Rectifier Q124 Multiples Q113 8-Channel Mixer Q150 Tran Ladder Filter Q109 Envelope Generator Q108 Amplifier Q109 Envelope Generator Q108 Amplifier Q118 Instrument Interface On the back panel I have the Q137 and Q104.
  • this is so much better than some dubstep bullshit

  • @cjsinister6, Thank you for comment.

  • what is the name of the button at 5:44? The one that changes the rate of the sound?

  • @ringdingdol -Its exponential frequency level control on the oscillator.

Determines the amount of affect that the exponential control voltage has upon pitch.

  • Nothin like the old stuff eh!:)

  • Kill Bill at 1:38

  • fap fap fap......

  • Software is a powerful forgery

  • Very beautiful, I wish I owned one of these beasts, I think that the synthesizers(dot)com company needs to make a ribbon controller!

  • @GibsonRocks12 -Thats a great idea!

  • these soulectro beats are free on mee: kickthecan.bandcamp.com

  • As much respect that I can possibly give to you is yours.

  • Hi i wanted to something exactly like this to create house music. if i bought an inexpensive kleyboard such as one for 600$ which one should i go for. because i want to buy a couple of dark energy to plug in my on keyboard an stuff like that should i buy a yamaha mm6 cause i really wanted to a many of my own modulars to start something like this can someone please help me!!!

  • Great demo, thanks ...

  • @studiodreadful -Thanks to you, and thanks for comment!

  • Sounds great. I also have the RE-20 so im on my way! ;) What would you buy if you had to shoose one little box to get as much analog vintage sound as possible?

  • I would love to get one of these, but I would never ever be able to comprehend it, so i just plan on buying the minimoog... How do you learn how to play these? like how did you learn to understand all the controlls and everything?

  • @Hixbrianrkule It's not that hard to get into the basics. Even if you have a non-modular you have to learn how different sounds been generated. (Well at least if the synth got no internal memory / presets or you love to get to know new things). After you master that you should be able to set a simple patch on an modular. And then it's practice and experimentation. Also there are great tutorials on the net.

  • Do you mind making some more of these vids? I'm saving up for my System22 now and wanna see more vids :D Takk

  • @LzI -I will put up more of these vids!

  • all i can say is WTF

  • Ljudet är så varmt! Riktigt stora ljud.

  • @AudioHills -Takk for det! Jeg er veldig glad i lyden og alle mulighetene denne synthesizeren byr på.

  • what mixer is at the top right?

  • @humunculous1 -Its a Tapco mixer.

  • Could you do a quick (ish :P) explanation of the patch you have going? I'm saving up for one I want to get soon, and I need a mentor of sorts to guide me through this.

  • I noticed you have also a voyager witch one do you prefer

  • @sebastianlanducci -A difficult question to answer...I prefer both of them, the modular for the freedom to connect everything to everything, the Voyager for the combination of great flexibiltity and the "moogsound".

You get the moog sound from the modular as well, but the Voyager have somthing in the sound I find hard to describe, perhaps "warmer" or "smoother"?. Btw, since this video. the modular have grown twice-have to make a new demo soon!

  • Does this stuff able to blast dirty basses like in dnb?

  • @Ginekope I,m not shure what dnb are, but this synthesizer can deliver all you need of dirty basses!

  • @fystasjoppheng Drum and Bass..."DNB"...

  • @fystasjoppheng dnb is drum and bass, the dirty bass is usually what is called the 'reese bass'. just 2 sawtooths detuned, then maybe distortion then LP filter, nothing fancy

  • @fystasjoppheng [dnb=drum and bass]

  • Wow , speaking of impracticability :D, still this looks and sounds amazing. Retro instruments like this really bring life to music :)

  • Man, that sounds so good. I'm not a keyboard player, but I've always loved the noises modular synthesisers make.

  • sounds sooo good but i would get so lost in all of that !

  • So many different sounds...

  • blows the access virus away

  • @dougerber -Thanks, I dont know the access virus, but wouldnt be suprised if you are right. This synth have a lot of sonic power!

  • what modules are you using from studio system 22

  • @nangmaster1 (Front panel left to right) Q105 Slew Limiter Q106 Oscillator Q106 Oscillator Q141 Oscillator Aid Q106 Oscillator Q110 Noise Source Q116 Ring Modulator Q125 Signal Processor Q130 Clipper & Rectifier Q124 Multiples Q113 8-Channel Mixer Q150 Tran Ladder Filter Q109 Envelope Generator Q108 Amplifier Q109 Envelope Generator Q108 Amplifier Q118 Instrument Interface On the back panel I have the Q137 and Q104.
  • awsome

  • I want to actually become good at playing keyboards so I can justify buying one of these beasts.

  • Mindboggling sound !

Reminds me about Sci-fi...C64 and really spaced out ambient

    Definately awesome...

I wish i was technically able to control something like this and affort it xD

  • @MasterCorruptor -Thanks! With a little practice, I,m shure you would be able to make some interesting sounds.

  • @fystasjoppheng

Trenger nokk en del penge og trening for å klare det :)

  • @MasterCorruptor -Sant nok, men det er mulig å kjøpe modulene gradvis. Da får du også tid til å utforske mulighetene og lære litt samtidig. Go for it!

  • @fystasjoppheng

Når jeg får plass skal jeg seriøst vurdere det... hadde blitt veldig artig for begge ungene også =)

Hva koster det mest grunnleggende ?

  • Great sounds, very inspiring. Nice playing too :)

  • @Boonfield Tanks a lot!

  • PPPPHHHHHAAAAAATTTTTT!!!!!!!

  • Nice! i was wondering if u or someone could help me. Well there is this video on youtube with this TITLE: Latin Freestyle S-Factor - Hard To Get (RARE!!!) POSTED BY: albystyle. At the begging of the video there is this funky synth sound wich i think sounds pretty KOO. If you or any one could check out for me and tell me what kind of SYNTH will be really helpful to make this exact sound i will really appriciate your help. Thanks>>>

  • Ok, now all I have to do is collect $4,000 for everything that's seen in this video and I'll be set.

Actually there are a few sounds in here that an aspiring "new age ambient space music" freak like me could use if I had the ability to gather this much hardware.

Like anywhere throughout where there is echo.

  • sounds amazing

  • Hey, that kinda sounds like the airwolf theme back in the days...

  • What is an oscillator aid? I have never heard of such a thing. And you didn't build any of your modules? no? I wasn't aware that anyone in their right minds bought modulars anymore, but yours is indeed beautiful, as is your music.

  • @Cds56 Thank you!

The Q141 Oscillator Aid is designed to add functionality to the Q106 Oscillator. A soft sync input and control allows multiple oscillators to track together with a smoother result than that provided by hard sync.

  • @fystasjoppheng Oh yes, we do need a sync.

  • I want one right now!!!!!!

  • Your demonstration is very interesting : the sounds you create and play are of great beauty.

  • @RADIOKLOW Thank you!

  • Ahh yes now I remember why we call the instruments patches! Look at all those wires, I remember as kid playing with my teachers Korg and patching all the cables at random those were the days.

  • Smooth and creamy!

  • Balls! Thats alot of wires lol. Sounds really good tho, i like the old ones like that.

  • he meant 2700

  • No I meant 3700

  • How much does a setup like this cost you?

  • @vootman I think something like 3700+shipping

  • This looks familiar :P You have the keyboard garage and .com keyboard controller - super dope!

  • @mootbooxle

Thanks Matt! Its good to see you! I guess its mostly a copy of your dotcom. Both the modules and layout are almost the same as yours, except from the Q110(now I got a Q117 and the Q116 is at the back of the cabinet)

This all started after been watching your dotcom videos 3-4 years back!

Your suggestions was very helpful when I started to buy modules.

The keyboard garage is made from a local carpenter!

I hope you are ok, and wait for more dotcom videos from you!

    Kjell

  • @fystasjoppheng Kjell! I don't know why I didn't recognise this as you! Wow, we haven't spoken in a long time my friend! Hope you're well! Matt

  • outer-space time-traveler music!! cool!

  • great sounds! looks like fun...

  • SHEEET HOW IT SSOUUNDZZZ

  • so inefficient with all the chords and such. today you can buy one little pedal that does this basically.

  • @srfrr Eeeeeh, no.

  • Nice sounds. It all looks so warmingly vintage too!

  • Thanks!

Its a real joy to play this modular synthesizer.

  • hello...i just got a modular aries 300 two floors....i play with memorymoog,matrix12,vp330etc..but its my first time with a modular beast...where can i find information or patches that could help me out...tnx....wow you have nice sounds

  • Congratulations with your Aries 300!

You have a great collection of synths.

I,m shure it must be some Ariesforums around if you google it. If you have questions about basic configurations, I can give some advice.

    Kjell

  • yes it would be cool.....just the basics....maybe you could suggest me a book or a specific site...tnx

  • I have a question.

At about 0:24 you demonstrate the abilities of the Q113 module (8-channel mixer).

Why would you have an 8-channel mixer as part of your keyboard when you only have 3 Q106 Oscillators?

Isn't that leaving 5 channels of the mixer module unused?

  • The Q113 Mixer provides common mixing functions needed in all systems. The mixer is broken into 2 sections of 4 inputs which can be combined to create an 8 channel unit. You can create new waveforms by mixing two or more from a single oscillator(1 Oscillator have 5 outputs) The signals will be in phase and will create a new stable, unbeating waveform. This can create interesting harmonics that can then be filtered.

  • Analog synths are just great. Nice sound.

  • I,m very pleased with this modular synth.

Perhaps you can recommend me what drummachine would be good for my synths?

  • I'm not really an expert with that stuff. I like to play around with different gear, but next to dj'ing and playing bass I don't know much.

But, I'm very satisfied with my Korg Electribe SX, very solid device, sounds very well. I've never seen any serious complaints from anybody. There are a lot of electribe's. If you like them, just make sure you buy one with the tube amps, they sound best. With the tubes they have a more analog sound. I might post a video soon with my electribe.

  • What an amazing array of sound texture your machine has! Wow...the sound is really different from most synths I've heard. It has the kind of vintage warmth that really captures my interest! Great stuff, and keep up the good work! :D

  • Thank you very much! I must say this modular synth is one of my best investments in instruments.

Hope you can buy one for yourselph as well!

  • I could pass days just mixing these buttons and playing to see what happens!! :) Great Video!

  • Its easy to forget the time when I,m sitting in front of this synthesizer. Always something new sound comes out of it.

  • This is absolutely best demonstration of the sonic beauty and the potential of a modular synthesizer I have ever seen, including the classic demos by W. Carlos.

    Bravissimo!

  • Thank you very much! I,m glad you like it.

  • there is, software. but those unnecessarily large analogs are so cool

  • The oberheim expander series etc were an evolution with that concept in mind I am sure, I used to have a matrix 6 keyboard and that had very generous patching capabilites however without all the knobs and dials it was mind numbing trying to program it. With high end software synths many people purchase auxilary controllers so they can have all the dials. The patch cords can become like a spaghettied up bread board fairly quick, however everyone still uses them for prototyping

  • the reason for using a modular synth.. Total Control over every aspect of synthesis, instead of using presets like the rest of the music making community. Also its a great way to waste money :)

  • @KnittingRam And those analog synths are sooooooooo nice!

  • @KnittingRam your argument is invalid, you can still, you know, actually synthesize and not use presets on non-modular synths.

not hating on them though ;-)

  • mix with dub be great

  • WTF IS THAT?!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • can you hookup the oscilator output or the output that goes into filter/envelope directly to a mixer (studio one I mean) or it needs to be conencted to the mixer that they sell on their site, and then to studio mixer?

  • Yes you can take the oscillator output direct to a studio mixer.

  • I want to get into analog synthesizers because they sound amazing, and I'm pretty big into Van Halen.

Main problem, I don't know anything about these.. when I see the systems, all I see are knobs and cables. Are there any tutorials out there on understanding these systems, what each knob does, etc?

    Any help is appreciated.

  • Nice sound

    good effect case

  • It looks like Moog Modular

  • Nice patch...

  • epic !!!

  • looks like a lunchbox :D

  • wow.. where have you got this machine? It's something I would like to see (maybe to play!) once in my life.. it reminds me of Spain by Chick Corea ;)

  • If you look at the description(more info), just copy and past the adress. There you will find all info about the synth.

  • if you aint heard pink floyed you really need to hear 'medal'

  • Actually it's "Meddle"

  • 1:37 - 1:41 remind me of kill bill

  • hahaha!

  • would be perfect sounds for a switched on bach kind a thing.

  • Yes it would be perfect for that.

Wendy Carlos used a similar, but bigger system.

  • Thats what she said!

    wait... THERE ARE BIGGER ONES!?!??

  • wow sickness! good work man lots of great tones, I love the FM waveshapeness near the middle. Very diverse. I definately think you should check out more pink ffloyd as they are really amazing.

  • reminds me of a horror movie but sounds cool muthafcka

  • reminds me of early pink floyd

  • Realy? I dont think I,ve heard Pink Floyd in my entire life-except from the:

    "Hey teacher" song.

    Thanks anyway.

  • You should get yourself a rag ready and listen to "On the Run"

  • you need to listen yourself with the musical awesomeness.

  • Sequencer is a must. Takker for svarene.

  • thats mootbooxle

  • No-its just me ;

  • what does a set up like this wind up costing after all is said and done?

  • 3700+shipping

  • Great demonstration. Thanks for sharing

  • Great!!!

  • Tusen takk!

    Good luck.

  • Vakkert! Misunnelig!

    Hilsen fra Oslo

  • Takk for det!

  • if i ever make a band its going to include one of these things. makes such a heart-warming sound :)

  • how do you connect a keyboard to a modular synth?

  • Use either CV voltage generating keyboard, or a MIDI controller with MIDI-CV module

  • Through cv input (control volatage panel) or midi....With the DOTCOM you can have both.

  • classic sounds..informative demo..thanks

  • Gorgeous... ty

  • what I'd do to own this is insain

    ... SO pink floydish

  • The synthesizer is a beautiful instrument. Too bad most bands don't use them today.

  • Well at least for live they're pretty annoying if you need to shift patch pretty fast ;-) But they're cool. I want one for my studio :-)

  • Beautiful...

  • Where do you live so I can Rob you!!!

What you have there my friend is LOVE in the form of a soundwave.. Times A BILLION! You lucky, LUCKY BASTARD! lol

  • What would you recommend for a small modular for someone who is just starting out. I AM VERY INTERESTED in this.

  • I'd suggest you start saving!! And it's what you can find aswel really. Interested in what exactly? Sounds? Oldsckool Synths?

Gosh.. this is so fascinating! It takes me back to the day when Jon Pertwee was the Doctor & the BBC Radiophonic guys would stay up all night fighting with these machines to get the sound they wanted! MAGICAL!

  • I'm REALLY interested in the Buchla 200e /w the new controller. I forget what it is called, but it intrigues me SO much.

  • The Model 222e module from Buchla
