I wonder if this is Michael Ponti playing this Tausig transcription. The ArkivMusic website lists Ponti as playing this on a 1992 VoxBox release called "Operatic piano" but it appears to be out of print. Anyone have this 2-CD set who could confirm?
Sounds like my old music teacher from school playing a warm-up for morning assembly on the upright that was kept for her mad rantings on the key board,,,,, must try to remember her name or prehaps not and keep her out of my already overcrowded nightmares,,,,,,,,
Guys I FOUND IT !!!! I have the sheet music for this arrangement. The thing is MONUMENTAL and almost impossible to play. This dude left no key unused, The piece has 6-note chords for each hand and gigantic arppeggios for both hands. But that's the least difficult thing. The Speed ..... geez. You finish a 40 note arppeggio and a millisecond after that you have a 10 note chord to play with both hands, and the thing is about 2 or 3 octaves lower. >.>
Wagner was acutely anti-semitic. Although many Europeans were in his time, his was a particularly vehement strain of racism. This is a stirring piece but this intellectual flaw, revealed through his anti-enlightenment views on race, relegate Wagner's work from the top echelon of German music. It is a cultural defect which will forever blemish his reputation. Although it does serve to demonstrate his inferiority to Bach, Beethoven, Schubert and Mendelssohn (the Liszt goes on).
@Sprongo Sorry to those who came to enjoy the music and for playing into the "he was an antisemite" charge,BUT.... all goy ,especially whites ,are n*ggers and you know why?**WE** are forever answering to charges of antisemitism and I've yet to hear a Jew answer to charges of anti Euro -ism,anti Arab-ism etc etc...Such a term doesn't even exist because it's **assumed** that we are n*ggers but for few decent ones.
@Sprongo Neither Schubert nor Liszt were Germans by the way... and Wagner popularity only decreased with the aftermath of the III Empire. Up till then there was scope to reconsideration of his vast influence, especially in the wake of the vanguard movements.
great version, but the monkeylike moronic postings make it hard to simply find the answer to the Q who the performer was. hey anti-racist bigmouth, develop your linguistic skills and take some valium and remember it isn't cool to be such a menace just because you are cowardly sitting in your undies behind a computer screen. when i was young the question was: what if you gave everyone a microphone? now we know.
Um, did Hitler like peas? If he did, does anyone bang on about..."Hey, it's peas with chips, does that mean I'm a Nazi, lol" Na, sod Hitler and just enjoy the music.
I think this was Hitler's favourite song. Hitler was a brilliant man. He was evil and horrible but he was very clever and had excellent taste in music and art. There's nothing wrong with liking the same music as Hitler. Just as I find nothing wrong with liking Hitler's paintings which only didn't get very far because people were really only interested in modernist art at that point. Yes he was a horrible man but he was also had very good taste.
Why are people arguing about this? Who cares that Hitler liked this music? Racists, murderers, child molesters--chances are tons of them like the music you like, hell, Wagner himself was an anti-semite. It has nothing to do with the ideals of who made the music, and definitely not the ideals of those that listen to the music, it is about the music itself.
@ktm64 >>> Can you crazy people not listen to Wagner's music without mentioning Hitler! It's all been said before ad nauseam. Ad fucking nauseam. Lots of people love and have loved Wagner's music including lots of famous people, good and bad. Hitler was an extremely evil man and if you are aware of this then you would be much wiser not to give him the time of day. Fuck Hitler.
@lewars1912 You are bit right, but i don't think that i shoud not like Wangers music only beacuse that Hitler love it. and i'm saying it to you as a Jew from Israel. Wagner was sick, and brillient, and same goes to Hitler. Hitler was sick indeed, and yes, fuck him. I like Edvard Grieg too, he was brillient.
Anyway, i see Hitler as history, and nothing more ;)
@Yuvalboo >>>Yes. I understand you ok. I mistakenly posted the comment to you and then deleted it as it was meant for ktm64. I'm sorry for being aggressive in my comment. Best wishes.
@danielschiffers Belive what you want man. I don't think it is true, for Hitler was working for his own ideology, not mine. I don't see him as a monster, only as a man who wanted to impelment his own sick dreams.
@ktm64 Oh no he didn't. He would just read and listen to good stuff so that people would THINK that he has good taste. He couldn't feel this. He was reading Nietzsche thinking that he's a superhuman, but he was too much of a stupid and small minded moron to realize what was Nietzsche talking about.

As usual with piano transcriptions, I can't find hear any sense of musiciality in this, let alone steady tempo, phrasing or taste. Just sounds like something that's very difficult to play on the piano....
Nope it actually is just one person playing the Wagner-Tausig Piano Solo Arrangement if you want the pdf I can email it too you. Its very difficult, read in a 9/8 tempo.
This is the Carl Tausig Piano Solo arrangement of this song. I have the PDF my friend Simon plays this one and it amazes me how awesome it is but way too much effort required to play it! I bow down before the clean performance by the person performing on this video.
