Laughlin, Nevada (Pacific time) has this problem. The airport is in Bullhead City, Arizona in a different time zone (Mountain Time). Arizona doesn't observe daylight time and Nevada does so most of the year they're the same time but not in the winter.
@skywaymanaz --- Oh I know! I post this scene every year on my facebook. Try living in Bullhead and having to go to work in Laughlin....it drives you nuts all through winter!
@skywaymanaz - We have that problem in Canada. The northeastern part of British Columbia never changes their clocks. They spend half of the year on each of PST and MST.
But the Newfies (people from Newfoundland) make no sense whatsoever. They're on a HALF hour time zone, ahead of Atlantic time. If it's 12PM in New York (EST), it's 1PM AST, and 1:30 in Newfoundland.
Try explaining *that* one to people. I understand it and it STILL makes no sense.
This is easily in the top 5 scenes from the West Wing. It's so hard because there are so many great scenes in the show, but this is pretty much the perfect Toby (and to a lesser extent Josh) scene.
You know what's my favorite thing about this scene? So many upper-management types would take it out on Donna and start screaming at her. This doesn't even occur to Josh and Toby. They reflexively, instinctively, get mad at the time zone system itself.
i so clearly remember the first time i watched this part of the episode. i laughed so hard i cried. absolute brilliance! i love toby so much in this segment.
I've watched this scene so many time, it's STILL funny! We changed timezones? WE CHANGED TIMEZONES?!?! PRICELESS!!!! :) :) :) Thanks for the laughs, West Wing!
Can someone upload Josh's blunder with the wholesome but not too wholesome Kathy and the boyfriend in the back of the truck? "That corn back there?" "No." "What is it?" "Trees."
@ChenoLoveable the short-haired girl with the watch is Danielle Harris, the little girl from the Halloween movies and Rob Zombie's remake (asAnnie Bracket). Just realized it watching this.
@Maeberry5 Later on in this episode, the President made the comment about Josh and Toby having 300 IQ points. He was talking to Sam (Rob Lowe) in the Oval Office.
You mean the Jewish characters like the president and his chief of staff...
oh wait, they are catholics...and they are clearly the smartest, etc. people on the show. and id give the righteousness award to sam seaborn...not a jew.
And the rest of America? I live in DC, so my snoberry on this issue will show a bit. Ive been to many parts of this fine country. And its the land thats impressive...
But hey, what am i talking about...you clearly just have a problem with Jews...lol
I still laugh at loud while watching this. Toby with the stick is the best. Gotta love Donna in this scene too "okay, my guys are going to need a minute". lol.
this video is so true about Indiana and the issue of Daylight Savings time. It used to be worse but the state is better than it used to be when it comes to time......hilarious scene
The whole bar scene where Donna scolds them both because "nobody brought up Bartlet vs. Ritchie but you". And then when Toby starts talking to Matt at the bar because Matts' helping his daughter look for a college that he can't pay for. I love how Josh waves his hand just before Toby says to Matt "I work at the White House".
"In the shadow of 2 gunmen" is my second favorite of all time.
So much for conservatives teaching their kids to respect their elders. Isn't that one of the "values" they like to preach to others about? And by the way, I am Pro-Life.
You are forgetting that the liberal/Democratic characters had flaws of their own; Bartlet covering up his MS, Toby leaking classified intelligence on the space plane, VP Hoynes having an extramarital affair and being forced to resign and so on. And Congress was controlled by the GOP until the very end of the series. It wasn't a total liberal lovefest.
This is all true, but all the main cast were so lovable that it's easy to forgive them. Besides, who cares if the Chief of Staff was addicted to pills years ago?
Also, Sorkin did not write the storyline about the space military thing. He left the show after season 4. Toby would have never done that if Sorkin was still in charge.
Another aspect of Leo's past drug use is that the Republican Majority Counsel of the House Committee investigating the MS Cover-up threatened to quit if the GOP leadership didn't leave Leo's substance abuse history out of the proceedings. That led to the deal to Censure the President in exchange for dropping the investigation. That's an example of a Republican practicing integrity and professionalism.
Funny, I just watched this episode today. "H.CON 172" I think. Cliff Calley is definitely a guy with integrity, but I think he went off and joined Mandy, wherever she is, because they completely disappear without explanation.
Yeah, I never liked that either. Another GOP character I liked was Ainsley Hayes, the smart and very conservative lawyer that the President told Leo to hire to work in the counsel's office. She was in several episodes off and on, but they should have used her more often. I'm surprised that they didn't pair her with Sam, the chemistry between them was obvious.
Cliff came back in the last season to act as Josh's replacement. He was put up as the "republican Josh". He came into play heavily in the eps where congressman santos masterminded the stem cell vote. Anyway, it was said that he left his job as the majority council (no doubt because he didn't like them) to work in the private sector until CJ and Bartlet sucked him back into public service again.
I always loved this scene--arrogant, northeast liberals blaming the locals when they get the time wrong. If it was in real life they would find a reason to blame George Bush.
Good day to all of my fellow Christians, firstly my apology for being out of topic. I came here to remind you people that the judgment day has started already. Please depart from cursing, smoking, gambling, fornication, occultism, and for watching pornography etc. lest you be found not worthy to inter the kingdom of God in the Day of Execution.
OK, t took me about five times watching this to realize that the kid is played by the awesome John Gallagher Jr., who was in the musical "Spring Awakening" on Broadway and won a Tony award and was absolutely fantastic. Anyone else know who I'm talking about...yes, no, maybe...?
THANK YOU! I've watched this episode so many times and its been driving me crazy not knowing who he is! Spring Awakening and TWW; this clip just got a whole lot better for me
Fantastic! Josh and Toby ranting and poor Donna trying to deal with her crazy bosses. I love how she says, "my guys are gonna need to walk this off a little bit" like a patient kindergarten teacher dealing with a couple of little kids throwing hissy fits.
I'm assuming the two girls are so-called Christians. Funny how when asked for help, they immediately become bitchy and bring up the only issue that's important to Christians apparently, abortion.
Geez don't be so ridiculous! Most Christians Right wingers have a lot of things they believe in!!! No abortions except for the rich who can go to another country, no condoms, no birth control pills, no taxes for the rich (only the poor), nuking Arabs, and getting women back in the kitchen where they belong... Sorry...had to be said.
I'm a liberal? Just because I think the Christian Right are hateful bigots trapped in a bad ass trip that resembles reruns of leave it to beaver? It doesn't mean I believe in what the liberals are preaching either. As far as respect, it has to be earned. If the Christian right stops preaching and starts reading the Bible maybe I will consider them credible.
Respect is earned, not given. As for who called me liberal... you did. "You proved liberals can..." I don't see how anything I say would show anything about a group I am not part of. It's like saying what I said makes black transvestites look bad. It makes no sense. My grandparents, and parents, were church goers, voted R sometimes, D other times depending on who was better. But the Christian Right is not representative of Christians, or conservatives, but of themselves and their behavior
LMFAO! That's hysterical. Only thing is, if this episode had been taped recently, the kids would have recorded this on their cell phone cameras and it would have been up on Youtube in an hour.
Whoa.. Danger Will Robinson. Not just quoting the show there either. You guys need to chill, its TV. How bout instead of taking such a political stand, you just laugh at Toby and the big stick.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Respect for your elders is not due to the fact that they are older, but what they have done with their time. The girls clearly have issues with the this governments stance on abortion, so how can they show respect, when in their eyes, they do not deserve it.
there must be a lot of loonatics on here, becus i cant believe im getting thumbed down for my previous comment. anyway, they may be asking for help, but for those ordinary girls, it was a chance to vent their anger at people they believe to be murderers. AND for God's sake, i'm not a religious NUT. To truly understand someone, you have to see things from their perspective and that's all i'm trying to do. Doesn't mean i agree with them. Jeez, Hasn't ANYONE read 'To Kill A Mockingbird'!
She just said "how many unborn babies did you guys kill today". She made her point, she didn't ramble on, on a vitriolic diatribe.
In 'To Kill A Mockingbird', Atticus Finch says that you'll never really understand a person until you climb inside of their skin and walk around in it. So you never really understand a person until you see things from their point of view.
Yeah, but it's the attitude that's the problem, not what they say. Even before abortion's brought up they're being kind of snotty without any reason to be. I mean, from the off Donna politely begins to describe their current problem and the immediate response from the girls is to bitchily snipe that Donna shouldn't treat them like idiots when it's immediately apparent to anyone who isn't picking for a fight that she wasn't. And they're the ones who unnecessarily bring up abortion.
Not that it's a big deal, I mean, they're fictional characters. But abortion or not, looking at both sides of the issue or not, the attitude of the girls is unreasonable. Just because you disagree with someone's politics doesn't mean you have to be a dick about it.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Yes i understand, but remember, for these girls, it's probably the first and likely to be the only time any Washington "insiders" come to their town, so naturally, they're going to air their grievances. They have something to be angry about, and if your religious and you think these people are responsible for killing babies, then your not going to be polite and courteous.
True enough, but there's a time and a place, and someone who's in a jam and trying to catch an airplane isn't going to particularly give a shit about hearing your grievances, Washington insider or not. Especially not if you go about airing them in the way these girls did. In any case, 'baby-killer' or not, the girls could have probably taken Atticus' lesson about walking in other people's shoes to heart themselves - it's not all one-way, after all.
Well for the girls- it's the White House which is unreasonable because of the whole abortion thing. they're merely teenagers so they don't understand that politics is about compromise, and on such an issue, it's hard to achieve a compromise or ANY change for that matter. But the girls see these people as murderers. I don't think their reaction was therefore unreasonable.
True. But just because the girls think the White House is being unreasonable doesn't mean that THEY aren't being unreasonable as well; as you say, they're teenage girls, they're not in possession of all the facts, they're immature and are taking a purely emotional reaction to the issue.
In any case, I think we're going to have to agree to disagree on this one.
Putting the abortion thing aside, I'd like to object to your categorizing all teenage girls as "not in possession of all the facts" and "immature and are taking a purely emotional reaction to the issue." For pro-lifers, murder is murder and I think that there is quite a bit of an emotional reaction to murder, teenage girl or not.
The fact that people like you subjugate girls to such a stereotype and therefore lowering expectations for our generation is exactly the problem with our country.
Thing is, teenagers generally ARE immature, and generally AREN'T in possession of all the facts around various issues. I know I was when I was a teenager. Saying this isn't intended to 'lower expectations for the generation'; it's just saying that teenagers are still growing, developing and learning as people. And that's great. But pro-life or not, I think it's fair to say that these girls are acting pretty immature about it.
I would have responded to the abortion question with "A number that would have been much lower if the pro-lifers weren't also trying to outlaw condoms and the pill as well as education about them."
wait....all pro-lifers are trying to outlaw condoms and the pill, along with education about birth control? i didn't realize how archaic pro-lifers are....thank you for enlightening me on the subject.
the shot of toby at 0.52 as he is hearing it and beginning to realise it you can see it in his face, very very funny, what a genius of a show, great writers and great actors.
and I love the bit when Josh said " Whoa, danger, Will Robinson" I love when the scriptwriters put something that associates with other gimmicks, like movie quotes, lyrics, etc =)
I just love this scene from WW....it still makes me laugh!!

LMFAO! That's hysterical. Only thing is, if this episode had been taped recently, the kids would have recorded this on their cell phone cameras and it would have been up on Youtube in an hour.

Love this scene. Those girls are such snots, though that I almost can't stand it. Forget politics. Show some respect to your freakin' elders.

Respect for your elders is not due to the fact that they are older, but what they have done with their time. The girls clearly have issues with the this governments stance on abortion, so how can they show respect, when in their eyes, they do not deserve it.
shokat 3 years ago
Doesn't mean you have to speak in such a bitchy fashion to someone who's very politely asking you for help, though.
cyberperson53 3 years ago
there must be a lot of loonatics on here, becus i cant believe im getting thumbed down for my previous comment. anyway, they may be asking for help, but for those ordinary girls, it was a chance to vent their anger at people they believe to be murderers. AND for God's sake, i'm not a religious NUT. To truly understand someone, you have to see things from their perspective and that's all i'm trying to do. Doesn't mean i agree with them. Jeez, Hasn't ANYONE read 'To Kill A Mockingbird'!
shokat 3 years ago
Whoa, chill, dude. I'm just pointing out that they're still being fairly unreasonable, and angry they may be, it's still pretty mis-directed.
And to be fair, I'm not 100% sure what 'Mockingbird' has to do with this context.
cyberperson53 3 years ago
She just said "how many unborn babies did you guys kill today". She made her point, she didn't ramble on, on a vitriolic diatribe.
In 'To Kill A Mockingbird', Atticus Finch says that you'll never really understand a person until you climb inside of their skin and walk around in it. So you never really understand a person until you see things from their point of view.
shokat 3 years ago
Yeah, but it's the attitude that's the problem, not what they say. Even before abortion's brought up they're being kind of snotty without any reason to be. I mean, from the off Donna politely begins to describe their current problem and the immediate response from the girls is to bitchily snipe that Donna shouldn't treat them like idiots when it's immediately apparent to anyone who isn't picking for a fight that she wasn't. And they're the ones who unnecessarily bring up abortion.
cyberperson53 3 years ago 3
Not that it's a big deal, I mean, they're fictional characters. But abortion or not, looking at both sides of the issue or not, the attitude of the girls is unreasonable. Just because you disagree with someone's politics doesn't mean you have to be a dick about it.
cyberperson53 3 years ago

Yes i understand, but remember, for these girls, it's probably the first and likely to be the only time any Washington "insiders" come to their town, so naturally, they're going to air their grievances. They have something to be angry about, and if your religious and you think these people are responsible for killing babies, then your not going to be polite and courteous.
shokat 3 years ago
True enough, but there's a time and a place, and someone who's in a jam and trying to catch an airplane isn't going to particularly give a shit about hearing your grievances, Washington insider or not. Especially not if you go about airing them in the way these girls did. In any case, 'baby-killer' or not, the girls could have probably taken Atticus' lesson about walking in other people's shoes to heart themselves - it's not all one-way, after all.
cyberperson53 3 years ago
THEY'RE TEENAGE GIRLS! (i felt like Toby saying that)
If you believe someone is killing babies, your not going to give a damn about them being "in a jam".
shokat 3 years ago
Yes, I understand.
But that doesn't mean that they aren't being just a bit unreasonable.
cyberperson53 3 years ago
Well for the girls- it's the White House which is unreasonable because of the whole abortion thing. they're merely teenagers so they don't understand that politics is about compromise, and on such an issue, it's hard to achieve a compromise or ANY change for that matter. But the girls see these people as murderers. I don't think their reaction was therefore unreasonable.
shokat 3 years ago
True. But just because the girls think the White House is being unreasonable doesn't mean that THEY aren't being unreasonable as well; as you say, they're teenage girls, they're not in possession of all the facts, they're immature and are taking a purely emotional reaction to the issue.
In any case, I think we're going to have to agree to disagree on this one.
cyberperson53 3 years ago
Putting the abortion thing aside, I'd like to object to your categorizing all teenage girls as "not in possession of all the facts" and "immature and are taking a purely emotional reaction to the issue." For pro-lifers, murder is murder and I think that there is quite a bit of an emotional reaction to murder, teenage girl or not.
The fact that people like you subjugate girls to such a stereotype and therefore lowering expectations for our generation is exactly the problem with our country.
spotty007 3 years ago
Goodness - THIS is still going.
But pro-life or not, I think it's fair to say that these girls are acting pretty immature about it.
cyberperson53 3 years ago
Haha, I think it's safe to say that everyone but Donna and Tyler are being pretty immature in this video.
Funny clip.

I would have responded to the abortion question with "A number that would have been much lower if the pro-lifers weren't also trying to outlaw condoms and the pill as well as education about them."
Scotty7617 3 years ago
wait....all pro-lifers are trying to outlaw condoms and the pill, along with education about birth control? i didn't realize how archaic pro-lifers are....thank you for enlightening me on the subject.
spotty007 3 years ago
Okay, I phrased that badly. I didn't mean all pro-lifers, but a lot of them do fall into the same category.
