The only thing here that extends the life of your computer is blowing out dust inside, and maybe adding/upgrading/replacing RAM. The rest is about making the software run efficiently, not about extending the life of the computer. Because if your machine is "at the end of its life" but it's simply a software problem, and you just reinstall the OS and it fixes it, the machine wasn't actually at the end of its life.

Also, a little tip if anyone cares, If you feel as if the mac OSX might better suit you, but you can't afford a mac, consider finding a linux based system designed for desktop use. It can add years to the life of any computer for free. Because both Linux and Mac OSX are derived from the same basic concepts, they both operate well. Plus, the free programs for Linux can match commercial grade programs. (I'd recommend LinuxMint or Ubuntu.)
