For as great as Greg Moore was, this was not one of his shining moments. He avoids hitting his teammate only to realize that his braking zone was....WAAAAAY BACK THERE!!!! At that point, he was along for the ride and his attempt to go over the curbs was futile. Happens to the best of drivers.
You can see that things were going badly for Greg Moore even at 0:30, gained a few positions but carrying way too much speed, no way he was going to make it around that corner.
I used to attend this race every year, with three other people. I still can't believe it's all gone!! As Medros74 said, the sport was "destroyed by one man".
At 1:34, Moore has got round Carpentier and then he clipped the back of Fittipaldi, Blundell went to the gravel trap to avoid the Newman/Haas cars. Onboard from Rahal's point of view at 2:54, he saw Fittipaldi locking up the brakes and Greg Moore who went across both of the Newman/Haas cars.
My mistake... FONTANA. Must have been some other crazy driving of his that I was thinking of. Either way he was entertaining, but I'd hate to race alongside him unless I were a partner in crime.
greg moore was fast, but he was a nakajima type: loves to crash, he "ended" emerson fittipaldi's carreer in another mistake comited by him, not to mention his death crash
his fatal crash wasnt his fault, Heavy winds on the back straight caused it and the hanford device used on the rear wing at the time caused alot of turbulence and an unstable car. and back then they drove in upwards of 240mph
and to believe...THIS was OUR series. America's finest form of racing that NASCAR (at the time) envied. And left Bernie Ecclestone shaking in his boots that CART would one day be a TRUE rival to F1.
It's kinda weird to see Moore driving so recklessly like this, considering the fate that would befall him a year later at Fontana.......

You know what I say? It's not a typical Portland race unless someone somehow screws up in that goddam--err, Festival Curves.

It just makes me sad that all that was CART is gone. Destroyed by one man. It was a great series and it will never be replaced.

The first lap shambolics, Greg moore hit the back of both Andretti and Fittipaldi.
Blundell ran into the gravel trap, I thought that André Ribeiro has stalled the engine and Paul Tracy as well.

Nah he was probably combining Jeff Krosnoff's accident with Greg's.

It was a true rival of F1, from 1989 to 2002... It was really bigger then F3000, just not big enough to be a replacement.

That definitely was Greg Moore's fault for going in there with WAY too much speed. But at least he was man enough admit that it was his fault.
