  • Delicate, classic and unique.... All the qualities you need to sell a lamp in New Hampshire.... Instead you just envelope my soul in a beautiful melody and go along your day... Damn you two bastiches... Thank you infinitely for your beauty....

  • @mayabelle1107

Yes, you a hipster. Thanks for the "deep" description.

  • @Oeveoepaskaa I put the hip in the ster... or the ster in the hip... I don't know, nevermind I'm a doofus hipster father of two beautiful boys... Forgive me for my trespasses or as some Brits would say, my trespisses....

  • I've always felt that this was one "B"-side which should've been the "A"-side. 'Cecilia' was the "A"-side, and therefore was serviced to the then-all-powerful AM radio Top 40 stations.

  • I don't hope that it is ending, but when the End is here: 0:00

  • Why on earth would Honda use this background chorus for an Accord commercial? I knew it when I heard it but I couldn't believe it! Here I am?????

  • 4 minutes of perfection.

  • this song makes me want to just go where ever God takes me. Just make a nice little cabin by a lake and live in peace no crime, nothin

  • @wafflepwn1999 ubetcha!

  • The only livin boy in Lichfield

  • here i am

  • Breathtaking

  • I live in New York City. Most times I feel this way. The big city can be a desensitizing place. Try your best to not let it break you down. And still give a fuck.

  • Transcendent song. Makes you rise out of your sadness and cherish your sadness.

  • Didnt know until recently, Paul wrote this about Art leaving New York to act in the film Catch 22. They were called Tom & Jerry when they started out, hence ..Tom get your plane right on time.

  • This song both breaks and fills my heart

I've got nothing to do today but smile :)

  • @Wankshaftsbury Me too. Never tire of this or Emmylou's Just before it gets dark.

  • gahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh aslkfhdasjklfhjkadshfads !!!!

  • you seem to be forgetting Art Garfunkel.

  • Here I am

    beautiful

  • Right before I get on any plane I listen to this song. Actually I listen to it on the way to the airport, in the line for coffee, and during boarding. Thank you Paul.

  • So beautiful. Paul Simon is a wonderful singer. And a fucking poet.

  • @Staticbursts That's MRS Robinson, rofl

  • I could never, ever get sick of this song.

  • @Graciefrance Not in a million years. Peace.

  • I love this song, one of my favorites

I saw Paul Simon in concert last night and he sang this ^ ^

  • @ambashells and @redsfanstu chill the fuck out, smoke a joint, shut the fuck up, and listen to the song. Why are you all arguing? Listen to this shit and shut the fuck up you redneck republicans...

  • Mesmorising

  • i can gather all the news i need on the weather report

  • that bass is a stairway to heaven

  • A True Classic ! ... here i am !

  • *COLovesYou yeah read it again last year. This time the ending really floored me.

  • art5301 it's been a while since my last comment, but I am tempted to do so every time I hit this site, and believe me that's plenty, because you see I am addicted to this Gift from the Gods of excellent music! Long live and God Save Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel!

  • @redsfanstu IVE GOT NOTHING TO DO TODAY BUT SMILE...OOF

  • @redsfanstu sod all to do with god - keep your idiot thoughts to yourself and let the rest of us listen to music - jimmy joe bill bob !!!

  • @ambashells Hey pal, I have a suggestion, take your sarcastic comments and place them where the sun does not shine, and listen to your next music on the southern most side of HADES!

  • @redsfanstu no place like heaven no place like hell -so your remarks are completely irrelevant on so many levels - I bet you dont even believe in evolution - But i am impressed that you managed to string a coherent sentence together -well done -there you go more sarcasm !! enjoy ...

  • @ambashells Encountering morons of your magnitude places a strain on any belief that I may have previously fosterd concerning evolution, creationism or The Big Bang, Speaking of bangs, I am fairly certain that you and your monkey's uncle got a real bang out of sniffing drainpipes filled with each other's feces last night, which you may feel free to inguritate at any near future time! A M F Jackass!

  • @redsfanstu smacks of too much effort me old mate !!! - dont work so hard on your insults they appear far too contrived -and long words ... well they dont suit you - and what was all that about drainpipes J C you really are struggling- anyway I wont be responding anymore but thanks for letting me chat ... its been enlightening and not in a good way just in case you dont understand ...... "magnitude " .... "encountering " HA ! positively shakespearian

  • @ambashells I can only quote the immortal Bard from Avon, "Parting is such sweet sorrow" but first, one final parting shot: "Good bye and good riddance" and last but not least, once again, A M F Jackass!

  • I like this song, it touches me, makes a tear come from my eye

  • Nice way to start the morning.

  • I don't know how long I'm gonna cope with adverts before every video... They are killing they key point of You Tube!! ;)

  • I'm gonna put this in one of my skate video's that shows who I am

  • This song brought me and my daddy close together. He showed it to me when I was 14 and we always sing it together, we both love it, and now he and I understand each other more somwhow, and I love being around him, and I'm so happy that a song can do something that powerful to a father and daughter relationship. Love you Daddy! Thank's for being my friend, and thanks for teaching me what real music is <3

  • @1darlin1angel1 That's so good to here

  • May I recommend the book 'An Essential Guide To Music In The 1970s' by Johnny Zero. The author is a big fan of this track.

  • "I got nothing to do today but smile" :)

  • that's beautiful.

  • Just a tremendous song. Hal Blaine's huge drums and Joe Osbourne's 8-string bass lines...of course the MASSIVE backing vocals recorded in an echo chamber.

    Just wonderfully produced.

Art garfunkle refuses to even comment on the lyrics! Very private times on their lives!

  • This song is about Paul being lonely when Arty flew to Mexico to film a movie. He felt like "The only living boy in new york" because he was so lonely.

  • Always reminds me of Garden State <3

    best movie in the world

  • This is one of favorite songs but I'm neither a boy or from New York, hmm.

  • well, what to say about this song. I love it again and again. Paul tells about a friend of his friend (that It sounds to me, who's name is Tom.) and he sings: "let your honesty shine, shine, shine..." I love that word...like the word sincerity, -but the whole song sounds to me sincere. He doesn't want to prove anything to anybody...I've been searching sincere songs in youtube, and I'm sure I will find more. If you have found any...-then tell me. Juha

  • Let your honesty shine like it shines on me!

Only a true friend would write such beautiful words for someone. Too bad they ended up falling out for 20-30 odd years.

  • I seriously frequent this song on your channel probably 3 or 4 times a week while im at work. Thank god your here hah.

  • Garden State epic screaming abyss kiss scene :))

  • @nj10er And so say all of us

  • @nj10er I will admit it, that's the first time I heard this song. Say what you want about that movie (I really liked it) but it had a killer soundtrack.

  • @jpoolerdom Garden State perhaps?

  • @nj10er Ahhh...the Infinate abyss! <3

  • this is so very sweet. What a friend Simon was to write such a beautiful song for Garfunkel. Would that I could be so lucky to have someone write such a beauty for me. *sigh*

  • I've got nothin' to do today but smile

  • totally herd this in the fake Titanic 2 trailer. it was the best fake trailer ever XC i wish i was real

  • Thanks, Honda, for ruining this song with your stupid commercial.

  • I always imagine this song playing at the end of the Catcher in the Rye.

  • @COLovesYou1

    right!

  • i thot the exact same tihng

  • @COLovesYou1 my god i am not the only one. :)

  • @mollymindfreak NOT A CHANCE " GREATINGS FROM SWEDEN "

  • @followthategg i dont care anymore >:D

  • @elliotsmith09 Good for you! Getting over yourself is the first step to a healthy recovery, it took you a few days, but I'm glad you were able to muster up enough courage out come out and say that!

  • @Followthategg thank u and how can i get over myself u started this ! and dont bother replying ur words do nothing to me.so just shhhh!

  • @elliotsmith09 Gawd, how can anyone dislike this song?

  • @Followthategg Gawd, how can someone have such a sad life if they start arguments with random people over youtube like!?!

  • @elliotsmith09 I know right, and here i was thinking you were finished!

  • When I was 18 I was stationed on Governor's Island at the tip of Manhattan. I regaulary made trips into the city and found the people to be friendly, helpful and talkative. That was in 1975 and Times Square was a pit. I returned in 2002 and couldn't believe how much it had been cleaned up since 1975. The people were the same, talkative, friendly and a zillions things going on anywhere you went. It's really a great place in my opinion.

  • @JWPMinnesota I agree! I go there a couple times a year and can't get enough. Anyone that says that New Yorkers are rude or unfriendly simply hasn't been there. It seems that everytime I stop to consult the subway map someone will ask if I need help- that would never happen in Minneapolis.

  • thumps up u came here to hear this music from the titanic 2

  • rw

  • Does anyone know if Paul or Art ever commented on this song in an interview?

  • @JWPMinnesota There's one by Paul Zollo, Songwriters on Songwriting. Highly readable. Contains a detailed interview with Paul Simon.

  • @followthategg lets just say shup and let me talk and say wat i wana say.. jeezz ¬_¬

  • this song makes me happy

  • Etou Akira :D

  • how the hell did this get 30 dilikes!?!?! :O :O

  • @elliotsmith09 Why do you care?

The comments on songs likes & dislikes is become a real bore

only exceed by the comments on Justin Bieber.

Say something original or drink a quart of prune juice!

  • @elliotsmith09 If you have nothing interesting to say, don't bother saying anything at all.

  • @Followthategg hey if U have anything interesting to do/say u wont be annoying me bout my comments bitch!>:D

  • @elliotsmith09 Well if you weren't prepared to be annoyed you shouldn't be spewing out a mundane comment about an irrelevant like/dislike bar.

  • Pretty damn close to perfect. Paul was on a roll...

  • For all those who love 'The Only Living Boy in New York' by Simon & Garfunkel, check out Nemo Shaw for a chilled and haunting version

  • @revibe67 Wow That is good thanks for posting.

  • the only living boy in new york? I find that hard to believe.

  • @villiparis the only one thats actually living perhaps. Think in a poetic sense.

  • @newrealization12 Is New York really that bad?

  • @villiparis I'm just saying my interpretation of that line based upon the other lyrics is that paul felt like the only one truely living in new york since most people in new york are caught up in their jobs. "I can gather all the news I need from the weather report." Instead of getting caught up in the darkness of the news he plans on going outside and enjoying life. "Tom" is no longer there to "live" along side paul. Now he feels he's the only one.

  • @villiparis And I wouldn't know if new york is really that bad since I've never been there.

  • @newrealization12 It's an amazing city to visit, I know that much from personal experience! As to the people, I'm sure there are good and bad in every city. It may be true that percentage-wise, there are more New Yorkers who are too caught up in their careers. Actually, I have read that New Yorkers give less to charitable organizations than people from other areas so I think you're on the right track. And I thought your analysis of the lyrics was very profound.

  • @mimmar3891 Thank you. And New York is on my list of places to visit.

  • Tom was Art back when he and Paul were the duo Tom and Jerry in the 50's. There are several songs here under Tom and Jerry.

  • I got a feelin' that royalties are due from Honda and Pink Floyd (The Show Must Go On). I thought Honda lifted it from Floyd...I was wrong. Great song. I have not heard it for 30 years or more.

  • found this after the "Honda" commercial. knew i heard it before ... here i am?

  • Newport Beach @ dusk on the PCH--in the old Merc.--windows open, stereo full blast with Simon and Garfunkel blasting out tunes...the best

  • my favorite Simon and Garfunkel song

  • Hey.. i got nothin to do today, but smile... this song is such a relief....

  • The name "Tom" refers to Art (Paul said)

  • 31,000 views of this are mine...

  • hey i think i heard this on a car commercial add...not that it matters much but still great song! ;)

  • I never get bored of this

  • Hey, I got nothing to do today but smlie : ) or if I wasn't so stoned - *smile*

  • Hey, I got nothing to do today but smlie : )

  • Thanks for posting this song. I remember when I first heard it, more than forty years ago, and particularly the overdubbing of the two voices. And even after these years I still find it so moving...

  • 30 boys are living together in scarsdale...

  • Here I am.

  • S&G...sublime then & still...for always

  • So much of what you read and hear in the media about the relationship between Paul and Artie makes it sound like by the end they hated eachother. The lyrics to this song are proof that they truly did love eachother. It is a sad beautiful song about a great bromance.

  • I've been listening to Simon and Garfunkel most of my life, but I just discovered this song a short time ago. It is easily one of the best, most beautiful songs ever written, and the definitive Simon and Garfunkel listening experience.

I'm fifteen now, and I thank God I was introduced to the depth and soul of this wonderful duo at such a young age.

  • @aidanmcballs I'm 15 too!

  • @aidanmcballs is on the Bridge over trouble waters album a classic

  • this reminds me of a close relative that died it always makes me cry but in a good way like im remembering him and all the fun we had together

  • With america the beast, hiding and secrets and makeing everyone a slave.

  • It's pretty cool to see the origins of modern indie and acoustic rock :)

  • I wish all the younger generation would listen to this song. It's just beautiful . I am only thirteen but I wish I hadn't wasted all this time on ... well , on not that type of music if that makes sense..

  • Simon and Garfunkel are imprinted in me by my parents. I remember a particular road trip where the only tape in our huge Chevy van 8 hours there and 8 back was Live in Central Park. I was seven (now, 30) and that was the beginning of my heart's love for this duo. This song is very special to me. I grew up until I was 21 in the same town and now move constantly with my military husband because I'm the "only living girl" wherever I am, starting over new and alone every time we pick up stakes.

  • Saw Paul Simon live last night. I hadn't heard much of S and G apart from Mrs Robinson, he played this and it blew me away.

  • Paul Simon--you may proceed to heaven.

  • I listener since childhood, but still sounds new...I can feel like crap from the world- lay down, close my eyes and feel happy again...

  • class, pure and simple. These two wonderful people helped shape my life, I love listening to them and always will.

  • I got nothing to so today but smile!

  • One of the most beutifull songs in any language. Simply poetry

  • It's just heartwarming. Can't think of any other way of saying it

  • I thought it was "I know you're pot will grow fine" lol

  • This song has so many things associated with it for me.

  • Makes me wanna drive the new accord i love this song a+ paul simon!

  • @Bigrick356 haha fuck yeah

  • I hope Paul SImon lives forever.

  • really beautiful...

  • Thank-you Redsfanstu...appreciate your comment.

  • This song takes me back to when I was 10, and playing the records for my sisters, brother and their friends. Just about every house, with teenagers, had this album playing, over and over, on the record player in 1970. Hearing it again takes me back to that carefree period in our lives. A truly timeless beautiful song...

  • I'm trying to learn this song for my dad (he loves it! And so do I now :) ) can anyone tell me the chord used here?? I've looked on the internet but I can't find ones in this key. Any help would be much appreciated!! :D

  • @AgentBlueBear - If you are tuned to standard pitch and want to play the song in the same key as this recording (B Major), then capo IV and the chord progression (for the verses and "ahh" part) is: G-C-G-C-E7-Am-Am7/G-D-C-G; the "half of the time" part: E-Am-D-G-C; the "middle eight" part: G (Paul plays the riff by hammering on and off the bottom three strings of his 12-string guitar using a G chord form)-A (at the 9th fret)-G-C-E-Am-D-C-G. Hope that helps.

  • @Shevek57 Thank you so much! :)

  • my parents heard me listening to this song and they got me the whole CD for my birthday.. hahah. P.ROD

  • It's interesting to hear an S&G song w/o Paul Simon's famous fingerpicking.
