Silly Bitches! The song is called Rudy can't FADE! It's about a guy Joe met at a bar who drunk him under the table. Joe was cranked up on speed and was ready to drink. Apparently the amphetamines wore off before this guy's resilence did.
Hopefully, Rudy's still alive and having a drink to Joe's health.
youre right, the fact that it appears on the album london calling as "Rudy Can't Fail" is a huge mistake. Dumb ass. Rudy, is short for rude boy, which is a term for Jamaican juvenile delinquents and criminals, it started around the 1960s. There are countless ska, reggae and punk songs that talk about Rudy. So, maybe the next time you call someone a silly bitch, you'll know what the hell your talking about.
im 23. had a kidney transplant at 17, several bands got me through it.( new and old) i had no knowledge about music before it, but i wanna thank my brother martin mc cready for gettin me into the clash. I love this song, strummer is a genius. Mick jones also worked with libertines, another band that helped me through the shitty hospital food. have a listen to them folks, very good.
I was lucky enuff to see the Clash in Grand Rapids Mi. in 1981, when I was 17 I had only been a concert goer for 5 years at the time but seeing the Clash made me realize why all those other bands used lazers, fog machines, flash pots and all the other crap. They needed it, the Clash didnt. period. With the Clash it wasnt"Please look at me". It was, "Please listen to what we are saying". They didnt need a lazer beam for you to know you were seeing something special. My fave band of all time!
But...but this can't be real!? His voice is as good as it was in the 1970's! That's really impressive! I love this song, one of the best I've ever heard!
To my eternal regret, I never saw the Clash; but eternally grateful that I DID see Joe and The Mescaleros----July 2nd, 1999, at the Metro in Chicago. You were, and still are, an inspiration, Joe...RIP
How can anyone dislike this?!!

Got out of bed a bit late today, and barely have time for breakfast as I'm invited to a party and gotta catch a football match before that.
So I just pulled a cold beer out of the fridge and put this song on. Can't get any better.

Thank you so much for giving us all a chance to see Joe and rejoice in his life before he died.
Joe knew more about life than anyone else in music and nobody ever really realised that.
