what has lenovo done to IBM is horrific. what is this compter? white, widescreen, childish-toy looking. really looks like a toy. shure there are still thinkpads around but they just aren't anywhere near the quality of IBM and they have widescreen. if IBM still owned the hardware part none of this wouldn't happen for shure. IBM please come back!!!
LENOVO is the worst company around. sent me a defective S10, refuse to offer a refund, rude customer service from India, idiot credits department that sent my account to collections in July 2010 when they had received my return on 1/22/10. Its obvious that you have never tried Ubuntu. Its dead simple. As an added bonus its immune to all the crap that "normal users" usually get infected with using windows.
I have ubuntu on my 2 lappy's. And I work with computers for a living.
Ubuntu? Immnune? o_O You obviously are ignorant and don't have any idea about anything relevant.
If you prefer security and hassles over convenience and ease of use... go ahead with your linux... I'd go with something that makes everything a BREEZE for me... WTG Windows! :-)
@qwasdninja Yes indeed, last ubuntu is easy like windows7 even easyer and it even run windows applications with whine, however i switched back to windows becose its faster and it has no bug (yeah now finaly in 2010)
@qwasdninja I have, I had Ubuntu 9.04 for 5 months roughly, until i torrented Windows 7 Ultimate, the simplest of tasks are made so difficult for Linux, it's a right pain in the arse. installing tar.gz isn't "dead simple" it doesn't run shockwave which is very common..
Also my Mobile intel 965 Express chip family GFX card can hardly support the basic graphics setting, let alone the advanced wavy one.
and in Windows 7, i set for best appearance, Aero on, works like a charm.
@Lemonaderz What "simplest tasks" are made difficult?
"installing tar.gz" - You cant install a tar.gz. Unpacking it, however, is very simple. Not playing/running shockwave is just riddiculus, any browser manages that regardless of platform.
"Also my Mobile intel 965 Express chip family GFX card can hardly support the basic graphics setting, let alone the advanced wavy one." - Couldnt agree more, hardware support sucks from time to time for various reasons.
@qwasdninja Yea, it plays up often, I like to watch alot of videos, I tend to watch them using flash within browsers
1 flash movie at a time is my limit, I've tried watching youtube videos while having a Movie buffering on pause.. I get very slow response when switching windows etc even scrolling down the page is painful
You just need alot of patience for linux, I've read alot of people complaining about no shockwave support, very annoying when you're stuck with it for nearly half a year XD
@Lemonaderz Flash performance pretty much sucks in ubuntu (im not sure about other distros) but the ability to have more than one player at a time is very dependant on your hardware. If you are talking about a netbook of some sort you probably get exactly the performance you have paid for. A workaround is to download the movies you want to watch using some plugin or other tool and watch it in vlc.

I think it comes with Windows XP Home Edition. I would DEFINITELY reccomend windows VISTA because XP (home edition), is the original (and old) one. Vista Is much more better, with better screen and everything! Even if this does come with XP, there was a video i saw that had a guy who installed vista to THIS same netbook, and he said it worked fine, he had had vista for a day and he said it worked fine he even showed it. :) Hope that helped!!! ;)
newer doesn't mean better. Vista requires much more RAM (memory) to run efficiently, and these computers usually only have 1gb, maybe 2gb max, which is not good enough to run Vista well. Vista will run, but XP will run better, and there's no advantage to having Vista over XP other than the look.
Well, like i said, one man already installed Vista on to this very same netbook, and he said IT WORKED JUST FINE. So, just because its a netbook doesnt mean, it cant run vista. Ive seen tons of netbooks that do run vista, in real life, and ive tested them out, and they also work fine.
Would it be hard for this computer to run a recording software. I am looking for a cheap laptop to record music with, because I create my own music. If you have any ideas about laptops under 400 if possible.
Na man these bad boys are only good for word processing and small business type use. The atom processors are shitty when you start to talk about serious processing power required for Audio and Video mixing and recording. Macs are excellent for that but not too many have the funds for em (ME) or the pricey software. Take a look at QVC for an affordable way to get a decent machine for your needs. I got a HP IQ506 back in October, LOVE IT! Yeah but these netbooks are just for emailing types...
I'd recommend the Mac route for such tasks really. Yes they cost quite a bit, but you get what you pay for. Look at refurbished models or "end of life" stock clearance. Now is the time for that as the new model refresh just happened in June, so they may still be getting rid of the old machines for bargin prices. Also, if you're a student, make use of the discount!
MSI netbook has an offering spot on to the macbook air in thinness. Not everything the Macbook air can do, but if folks just surf the net and email with it, then it's perfect for that.
im sorry their new generation looks cheap compare to the 1st generation which has an express 34 slot for more usb and firewire expansions and among other things...
solid state drives are less prone to breakdown. i dont know if they are faster, but they hold less memory. they are just...safer but less memory and i Think they're slower, dont know for sure

I can consider long power cord a plus, even with a laptop. Usually most electric and electronic quipment comes with a too short cord, and it's not really taking up much extra space or weight.
I'm saving up for a laptop that will be used for audio production/live performance tool. Would this be sufficient for running programs such as Adobe Audition or Acid Pro? Thanks.

NC10, whatever, any netbook except for the Inspiron Mini 9 are better then the IdeaPad S10. I said Aspire One because it was the first of the Eee imitators. The IdeaPad S10 is a thinkpad, only after you take away everything that makes a thinkpad worth using. You don't get ultranav, you get a less than full size keyboard WITH a shrunken right shift key, there's no solid state options, it BARELY has enough ram to run Windows XP and it took them til after CHRISTMAS to release a 6 cell battery.
Hey man, I'm with you. Lenovo Netbook is made of cock and fail. And the only reason I chose the NC10 is that it's got the largest keyboard for my fat ass hands, plus I think it looks classiest (but that's just opinion, let's not get dragged into a youtube war of words -_-)
i want to get this by selling my old notebook (that's way more high spec'd but a bit heavy to carry around all the time. I don't really need a speedy machine since i have a desktop). However, is it powerful enough for programs such as word, excel, powerpoint (I mean I'm sure it can run them, but do you guys think it can run them well enough?)
On Windows XP it can. If you try to install Vista, you might run into problems, but there is too little memory for that anyway. Office 2007 shoudl work great on these netbooks.
Received my order of 3 last week from an order that was placed like 2 months ago ;< .Well I got it at a nice sales price, and then I prompt sold all of them on ebay.Back orders seem pretty bad,I might of been able to get a better price for them.On the lenovo sight now, says the white one will ship in a few days but the black one(ones I got) ships in a whole month or more.Yeah those cords look bad but atleast the power brick is relatively small.

Most Netbooks use resolution 1024x600, S10 only 1024x576 (can be problematic for games and programs)

Maximum Resolution: 1024 x 600
I don't understand what you're talking about, maybe you're just retarded and haven't changed the settings?

That right shift key is not a useful place for touch typists!

Lenovo is smaller for a 10" and better design than the Samsung nc10 but the 3 cell battery really kills the deal....so i didnt get it.
djteva 3 years ago
Yeah, it removed it from my list.
I'm looking at the MSI Wind 432US/286MY/422CA or the EEE pc 1000H.

i want to get this by selling my old notebook (that's way more high spec'd but a bit heavy to carry around all the time. I don't really need a speedy machine since i have a desktop). However, is it powerful enough for programs such as word, excel, powerpoint (I mean I'm sure it can run them, but do you guys think it can run them well enough?)
ThatGuyyyyy 3 years ago
On Windows XP it can. If you try to install Vista, you might run into problems, but there is too little memory for that anyway. Office 2007 shoudl work great on these netbooks.
Superphilipp 3 years ago
vista actually takes about about 20 GB so it would be using about 1/4th the memory on the computer itself.
MortiereIncorporated 3 years ago
It runs all the Office 2003 apps VERY well. Can't say as to Office 2007.
