Heirloom solution: why not just let you get a full (or 50? 75%? ) refund for your item at the vendor?
In the fear of "transfering points between characters" - well, just make a requirement of that you can only sell it back from the toon you bought it in the first place.

@Berryboard 1 of each type of shoulder one of each type of chest, 2 1h swords and the 2h staff, i forgot about trinkets and bow. i had some badges from other days ofc, and got a pvp one from wingergrasp marks to, but i did buy them in one day and at most it was a few days farming to get them. plus, wrath farming was easy, instances only took 15 mins max, and tank = insta queue
Tanks, Especially correctly specced and heirloomed tanks, will do the most damage in dungeons up until about level 65. Hands down. I've leveled 2 warriors and a paladin tank recently and not once was i out dpsed.
They can also do insane AoE pulls if done correctly to get through quests, people who roll fury then try to tank on the excuse it does more damage are quite frankly idiots.
Okay a quick comment to make I'm the guy that sent in the first e-mail for this episodes "The Mailbox" and I am a proud man to see so many people made great ideas on what Blizzard should do with the heirloom items and if I'm totally honest go post some of that on the forums over on World of Warcrafts' site maybe someones lucky idea could be choosen considering 4.2 is supposed to be right around the corner and I'd love to see something new with heirlooms to make my alt leveling funner.
Children's Week starts in a few days. The timing for a reopened portal back from Shattrath and Dalaran is rather convenient! I don't mind the portals being closed but this is useful.
Well, I still like the fact that they implemented the portals again. It cuts down on travel time by quite a bit. Of course, the reason Bashiok gave seems kinda dodgy. Surely they did this for convenience/cutting down on travel time?
when I leveled my paladin up till 40 level best tanking spec was the retribution- cos this was the only one with heavy aoe with prot spec in thous days it was especialy hard to hold agro
when leveling with warrior i did tank with arms up till 40 cos still it was much better than protection- i was doing insane DPS(no way of losing agro) also I could heal myself with wictory rush almoust nonstop while clearing trash
So why should someone use tanking spec when it sucks at tanking
Really, who would actually buy more then 1 pair of Shoulder and 1 pair of Chest. The ONLY reason people buy Heirlooms is because of the Exp boost, not for the stats. And really, I played my Holy Pala, and I heal instances fine with only Holy Shock and Word of Glory. Instances pre-cata are crazy easy, no need to match gear.
The heriloom item idea is great but is flawed by the differing stats stacked by different classes. Especially with the new heirloom tank items. It seems that Blizz is approaching the idea from the standpoint of forcing you to earn points to earn leveling gear appropriate to not only your class but also your role. An exchange vendor should be implemented, but whether it costs gold or points is up for debate. I think all heirloom slot specific items should be exchangeable.
@pjconnor74 I like your idea of a heirloom gear 'garage sale' but then you will have the problem with the game mechanics in that heirloom gear is BoA. They should belong to another class of items where you can only trade or sell them in heirloom-specific auctioneers and players can choose whether they want gold or points, but they WILL NOT be able to change the price because then they might as well just make all heirloom gear have no bounds at all so prople can throw them on the auction house.
About that Heirloom thing - I can agree that no tanks should wear cloth/leather heirlooms as that is just ridiculous, however, why would you not like the fury/retri-tanking up until around lvl40 dungeons? They still take around the same damage as respective tanking specs, however, they are helping the group with additional dps! I mean, come on, some time ago I was tanking lvl35 dungeons with my enha shammy and it was just as "hard" or "easy" as with normal group.
Heirloom Idea - You buy some sort of item which has a right click option, which then turns it into the item needed. it can then be turned back into a different item with a right click again, similar to the weapon in molten core which has two forms but for heirlooms :)
@chapmanoo maybe have it a maximum justice point price, and buy 2 parts to make a piece, totalling 8000 points. For the switching mechanism of course :D. We don't want people getting crap too easy..

I am a new subscriber so i dont know if u have shared this on the show aready but i c that u show interesting quest lines. There is one in ungoro crater given to u by an alli, he is a delutional knight that makes u help him kill "draggons" which r actualy dinos and "save" helpless damsels in distress but just goes around killiing there pets, and telling them that they r safe while they cry over there murdered bird. it is good for a laugh.
There is actually a glitch I have found with the dungeon finder that others might want to explore even TB. If a friend/guildie queues for a random and the usual thing happens where someone leaves the group cause they have done it many times before, you can get lead of the group and invite someone much higher level to the random group then using the dungeon finder icon on the minimap, they can then teleport to the same dungeon to help out and the group will still get thier satchel from the queue.
the crusader quartermaster in icecrown sells those same heirlooms for quite cheap. doing dailies alone you can get around 20 marks a day. the only real drawback is you need exalted trial of the champion achievement to buy them. but if you played through wotlk you should have unlocked at least part of that achievement.
i think the sidekick thing would be rlly cool cause champions online uses it and it works for going up in levels in order to play ur friend and going down but the problem in WoW would be when randomly adjusting ur lvl ur gear would have to match up and that would be where its a problem i have no idea how they fixed it in champions online cause gear is in that game too but it seems to work
Thinking a little more...the "wrong heirloom gear" question really would only apply to Tanks....squishyness and all that. I can think of a number of times it wouldn't really affect the fight if DPS or healer was in BOA that was say for a healer or such...DPS might be a little low, but as long as tank survives and the healer doesn't go OOM in the middle of all the fights it just might take a little longer. Meh-farming JP's are so easy, plus you can get the Honor heirloom stuff -Just spec right.
Satchels...well so far only getting gold :| but still got a few nice pieces for offspec :) At least it didn't bug to where everyone was getting the mounts on the first runs...that would have caused a major uprising.
leveling tanks and healers are easy you just grind dungeons all day long for a start healers and tanks will always have shorter queues to get into a dungeon, grinding dungeons allows the player to learn how to tank/heal properly and as your character levels and gains new spells you will learn how to work them into rotations also you gain experience in how to handle different situations because from dungeon to dungeon different bosses will often have simillar mechanics in how they fight
@empireofmatt Don't forget the better loot too :) Also if your new let the group know up front most of the time they'll offer a heads up if there is some particular thing in the dungeon that gave them trouble. CD management is a big learner during these :)

TB just gonna point this out, but in Arenas and Rated BG's you fight people with rating very close to yours, so if you had say a 500 rating you wouldn't be fighting anyone above a 750 rating (if even that).

@TheRoflSaurus nah i think dungeonfiner is a good idea. but it isnt done very well i think. they should make the use of the dungeonfinder possible only once a day. if you wanna go again to the ini you would have to run, or wait for the next day. that would fix all problems people have with the dungeonfinder.

Heirloom gear idea, instead of buying the heirloom you should be able to buy a token which could then be exchanged for an heirloom, then once the heirloom has run its use, it can be sold back for the token, which can then be used to purchase another heirloom piece. just my 2 cents.
@srsly101 never happen. They want you to use your JP on them rather than only having to do the JP grind once... Just like a gold sink, only a JP sink instead.
@srsly101 for people who play a few alts at the same time I imagine that'd be too much hassle to constantly trade in the token everyday if it were 1 token for head, 1 token for chest etc and then buy it all again for another character only to play it for an hour or something.
It'd be better to simply put class restrictions on the gear like the tier sets have, so if you buy a plate chest, only DK warrior and pala could use it and then you don't get any warriors wearing cloth

@SoniStreet Erm, not the same concept, at all, the whole concept of "heirloom items" implies being handed from one character to the other. To help with the level grind, since most people believe the game begins at 85. You can tank just fine in non-tank specs for about the firs 60 levels, but you need to be wearing the right gear- not cloth. Also, please get a sword/shield if you're playing a pally/warr
Using the wrong heirloom gear is totally stupid. However I have tanked as ret in an old dungeon. It is not easy at all but is possible. At the same time I had a group that was very understanding about it and we did accomplish what we set out to do in the dungeon. Expecting a tank spec however is not insane at all.
@MrAber28 True Ret can do it ok...Consecrate & righteous fury for the threat will work pretty easy until 50 or so then you really start taking a lot of damage that the healer will start having some trouble keeping you up, but a skilled player can handle it pretty well. Warrior's even more so as they don't loose a ton of abilities just switching to defensive stance and wielding sword and shield. But once you're in wrath and cata stuff you just can't do it effectively.
im wondering, i have an account that only has up to wrath of the lich king, and i got a new computer so i do not have any wow downloaded onto my computer. If i buy cataclysm and put it onto my account, will all 4 expansions work ???

@CookieMonsterCS If like you said, you have previously had the other expantions then you can download them straight off battlenet without having to buy them again.
@CookieMonsterCS On the download yes should work just fine. You may need to enter your CD key's unless you were a straight download the first time. and all expansions should work.
Yes on the pre-paid card that will reactivate the account. If it's been inactive for a long time, I'd recommend changing the email once you reactivate just in case and the authenticators are a must have IMO
Final Fantasy allows you to drop your level down to play with friends I think too, though I think they also allow you to keep experience as a percentage so dropping down to lvl up a friend actually benefits you beyond having fun. Not sure how they deal with gear and talents as I don't play it, this is all second hand knowledge :p
At those levels the grind of an instance would be the best option for leveling, if you get a tanking-spec to match. And with the freebie that dual-speccing is today, you can just buy it as soon as it's available and continue with DPS for questing. I've leveled tanking alts from level 1 because I had no clue how to tank (Main healer from closed beta-Cata), and even at the end of wotlk you could get a grp within seconds as a tank.
Portal cahnge was fairly straight forward, player retention should you get back an older player. It was a company change not a game design one, dont read too much into it

If a friend/guildie queues for a random and the usual thing happens where someone leaves the group cause they have done it many times before, you can get lead of the group and invite someone much higher level to the random group then using the dungeon finder icon on the minimap, they can then teleport to the same dungeon to help out and the group will still get thier satchel from the queue.

the crusader quartermaster in icecrown sells those same heirlooms for quite cheap. doing dailies alone you can get around 20 marks a day. the only real drawback is you need exalted trial of the champion achievement to buy them. but if you played through wotlk you should have unlocked at least part of that achievement.

i think the sidekick thing would be rlly cool cause champions online uses it and it works for going up in levels in order to play ur friend and going down but the problem in WoW would be when randomly adjusting ur lvl ur gear would have to match up and that would be where its a problem i have no idea how they fixed it in champions online cause gear is in that game too but it seems to work

Thinking a little more...the "wrong heirloom gear" question really would only apply to Tanks....squishyness and all that. I can think of a number of times it wouldn't really affect the fight if DPS or healer was in BOA that was say for a healer or such...DPS might be a little low, but as long as tank survives and the healer doesn't go OOM in the middle of all the fights it just might take a little longer. Meh-farming JP's are so easy, plus you can get the Honor heirloom stuff -Just spec right.

leveling tanks and healers are easy you just grind dungeons all day long for a start healers and tanks will always have shorter queues to get into a dungeon, grinding dungeons allows the player to learn how to tank/heal properly and as your character levels and gains new spells you will learn how to work them into rotations also you gain experience in how to handle different situations because from dungeon to dungeon different bosses will often have simillar mechanics in how they fight

TB just gonna point this out, but in Arenas and Rated BG's you fight people with rating very close to yours, so if you had say a 500 rating you wouldn't be fighting anyone above a 750 rating (if even that).

Heirloom gear idea, instead of buying the heirloom you should be able to buy a token which could then be exchanged for an heirloom, then once the heirloom has run its use, it can be sold back for the token, which can then be used to purchase another heirloom piece. just my 2 cents.

@srsly101 for people who play a few alts at the same time I imagine that'd be too much hassle to constantly trade in the token everyday if it were 1 token for head, 1 token for chest etc and then buy it all again for another character only to play it for an hour or something.
It'd be better to simply put class restrictions on the gear like the tier sets have, so if you buy a plate chest, only DK warrior and pala could use it and then you don't get any warriors wearing cloth

To help with the level grind, since most people believe the game begins at 85. I in no way agree with not getting thing's you didn't work for, though i should point out that at the minute honor and justice points aren't exactly hard to come by, just time consuming..

You can tank just fine in non-tank specs for about the firs 60 levels, but you need to be wearing the right gear- not cloth. Also, please get a sword/shield if you're playing a pally/warr

Using the wrong heirloom gear is totally stupid. However I have tanked as ret in an old dungeon. It is not easy at all but is possible. At the same time I had a group that was very understanding about it and we did accomplish what we set out to do in the dungeon. Expecting a tank spec however is not insane at all.

@MrAber28 True Ret can do it ok...Consecrate & righteous fury for the threat will work pretty easy until 50 or so then you really start taking a lot of damage that the healer will start having some trouble keeping you up, but a skilled player can handle it pretty well. Warrior's even more so as they don't loose a ton of abilities just switching to defensive stance and wielding sword and shield. But once you're in wrath and cata stuff you just can't do it effectively.

and yes if you buy a pre-paid card and add it on the battlenet site to your wow account you should be okay to play.

Yes on the pre-paid card that will reactivate the account. If it's been inactive for a long time, I'd recommend changing the email once you reactivate just in case and the authenticators are a must have IMO

Final Fantasy allows you to drop your level down to play with friends I think too, though I think they also allow you to keep experience as a percentage so dropping down to lvl up a friend actually benefits you beyond having fun. Not sure how they deal with gear and talents as I don't play it, this is all second hand knowledge :p

At those levels the grind of an instance would be the best option for leveling, if you get a tanking-spec to match. And with the freebie that dual-speccing is today, you can just buy it as soon as it's available and continue with DPS for questing. I've leveled tanking alts from level 1 because I had no clue how to tank (Main healer from closed beta-Cata), and even at the end of wotlk you could get a grp within seconds as a tank.
