  • Derek was raised to play with the ABB ! It's in his genes. He is one talented guitarist ! Amazing to see how good he was at 13.

  • Actually, the original album version of this song featured Duane Allman and was part of the legendary "Fillmore East" shows. Duane is what was missing at later shows. The 'Brothers found some worthy guiltarists in Warren Haynes and Dereck Trucks. I saw the ABB in 1974 and 1995.

  • Kick ass show, I was there !

  • I wonder if Dickey would have been soo helpful if he knew that the kid was eventually going

    to take his job.

  • that kid is a son of a bitch - hell ya

  • Warren will be the first to tell you that Derek Trucks worked his butt off a long time before this tape was made. I don't think Warren is being much of a hog, he is the leader, musically speaking for this band. To tell you the truth, I think Derek's slide back then was nowhere what it is now either.

  • I wonder if Dickey would have been soo helpful if he knew that the kid was eventually going

    to take his job.

  • Derek trucks was so classy even at 13!! Why is Warren Hayes such a Gig Hog??? Let the kid play!!! Even Dickie wants Trucks to shine!!! What a disgrace WH is!

  • holy fuck. he was already ready to go pro at 13.

  • This is my fav AB song. Nothing against the guys, there incredibely talanted.

But in later years when they did this song it never had the magic it did with Dickey

holding the reins. It always sounded good, but the magic was missing.

And Derek, rip it little dude.................

  • Great talent! Great guitar player! Amazing, Derek! Love it!

  • mindblowing! thanks for posting this

  • what song is this ?? thanks

  • @thepeoplesuncle "It's One Way Out."

  • Thanks for this video ,I was at that show...I dont think I ever missed a show when the brothers came to Atlanta....We all left ,that night talking about that kid, playin slide......

  • This has been my favorite song ever since the very first time I heard it back in the early ''70's & I fell in love with southern rock then & there! Derek does a right fine job on the slide in this version. I have been very fortunate to have seen some of these southern bands over the years. (RIP Duane, Ronnie & Danny Joe.)

  • DT is a whole new level to aspire to.

  • @bassangler33880 Right? All you did was give your opinion, and you get called an asshole?

  • @briandrum1 I don't mind somebody differing with my opinion, but namecalling instead of telling me who would take over the reins if Warren left, tells me he's looking for some shit and he needs to move on.

  • @bassangler33880 Right you are! It's funny, I love Warren, but when he plays anything Grateful Dead related, he's not the man for the gig, but when it comes to ABB, or Gov't Mule, he's the ONLY man for the gig..

  • hear that sound? That's me sawing all my guitars in half after seeing a 13 yr. old play 100 times better than I ever could at 40! Derek is considered to be "THE GUY" in today's world of blues, slide, jam bands,....WHATEVER! I recently read where Stevie Guitar Miller was asked who he listens to these days. His answer was "anything with Derek Trucks playing on it!"

  • @keithmoon29 I caught a European guitar player in 2010 who is/was hotter and could set a guitar on fire better than Derek Trucks but he died in Feb of 2011 of a heart attack. Gary Moore. So I guess Trucks is number one now:=)

Check out "Gary Moore Texas Strut part 1" then "part 2" here on YouTube and hear Gary play liked Billy Gibbons and Stevie Ray Vaughn..then play like Gary which is a bigger fire than Gibbons or Stevie Ray could light on a guitar.

  • 5:13 niiiiigga

  • Bad ass Derek! Just 13. Look at him now.

  • saw trucks tedeschi this past summee and wow ...i knew he was good, but live he blew me away.

  • Ha! So basically, Derek could have joined the band 20 years ago instead of 12... unreal talent that cat has, man.

  • great editing .......ASS!!!!!!!!

  • Love derek trucks!

  • fucking amazing

  • @bassangler33880 That's like saying that without spinach food would cease to exist.

  • Thanksgiving week's Rolling Stone did an article ranking the 100 greatest guitar players of all time. I don't fully agree with the rating, Derek - 16, SRV - 12, Duane - 9, but it's hard to argue with the knowledge of the group that did the voting. The poll is online, but comments doesn't allow links.

  • Ok... Just what Drugs was Dickey on Dood? He was the sole inspiration for Warren & The over playing Derek trucks...You tell me Bra cause I saw them in 1998 When Warren was out with Gov. Mule and Jack played at Naugtica stage in cleveland and It blew my mind! I want6ed to see Warren, But he was touring with Gov. Mule Needles to say? I could turn my head and tell who was playing the lead as per Dickey and Jack smoked it that night they played it seemed 4 hrs.! Dickey needs some credit here Dood

  • @cbarrett34 HAHAHA you can name 100 better players than Trucks?? I HOPE to God that that wasn't your point. Because you won't find anyone who's seen the man live and still puts 100 dudes ahead of him.

    Check this link out: /watch?v=7czlanjaObs

Look at the top comment. That is what Trucks is. An absolute virtuoso and a prolific songwriter.

    @theatlantisrise - well said.

  • What a great video. A precurser for things to come.

  • Too bad Dickey liked booze and drugs more than playing music in the band he helped found, otherwise he'd still be there. Saw him solo a few years ago and he was not the player he used to be. Not even close.

  • Get rid of warren and get back Dickey

  • @cbarrett34 You must be deaf in one ear and can't hear out of the other!!!!

  • @cbarrett34 Dickey's great and definitely fit the traditional ABB better, but Derek is the greatest guitar player of all-time bar none in my book and works flawlessly with Oteil and Warren. I'd want to see Herring and Pearson back before Dickey...just goes to show how many legends the ABB has produced.

  • @theatlantisrise you're out of your mind. derek trucks is the greatest player of all-time? he's not even the greatest player in my town, seattle

  • @cbarrett34 Please see: Sahib Teri Bandi, Lost in the Flood, Down Dont Bother Me, Crow Jane, Midnight in Harlem, These Walls, Desdemona, 'Liz Reed, and, uh, just about anything Trucks has ever played, composed, or arranged. The man is arguably the most prolific musical prodigy since Mozart, and he's a gentleman who will never sell out. The original ABB was legendary, no doubt, but actually hearing Trucks play live, especially with his own groups, is unlike anything I've ever experienced.

  • @theatlantisrise i'm not saying he's terrible, but i could name 100 right off the bat who're better. anyway, i liked ABB a lot more in the early 90's, when dickey was with them. since he was fired, they've been shit

  • @cbarrett34 ok pal, name 100 people ahead of derek

  • AWESOME thanks for posting this!

  • So sick to watch knowing the dynamics of how they appear today- Warren n Derek, Derek n Gregg. So sick.

  • 3 freaking great guitar players on one stage!!!! awesome. Great video.

  • 5 short years later and he's a full time member. He just gets better and better too.

  • Sep 7, 1992 (Mon) The Allman Brothers Band Lakewood Amphitheater

  • Walnut Creek '92.

  • This is so amazingly awesome! Thanks for posting.

  • def hear some Skydog in there....the spirit of duane lives inside derek truck fer sure!

  • anything with Derek Trucks is good but jammin with Dickie Betts at 13 musta been a dream come true.

  • Kid looks like he's about 12. Now he's the greatest player in the world.
