This sounds much more innovative on the album. Here it just looks like Alain / Al's descent from an interesting guy into just another redneck like he is today, who just wants to say f--k all the time. What is he overcompensating for? A legit interest in synthpop or darkwave a few years earlier? I wish I could freeze Al back at a time when he was interesting. And the number of guitarists at a live Ministry show always seems overkill.
To silks. I suppose you think Kmfdm and thrill kill kult are industrial. Synthetic, abrassive, loops, samples, 100% electronic computer generated is old industrial music. Try Skinny Puppy (pre rabies). Front Line Assembly(pre millenium),Leather Strip(behind the laughter) ,.Klute,Psychopomps,Cyberactif, You ever heard of Zoth Omog? How about Metropolis? Learn your shit before you send me a comment amateur! Go listen to your pop music NIN,powerman500,ramstein,white zombie,Ministry Psalm 69.
Yes TG did use guitars. . I know TG are suppose to be the Gods of industrial. But I was raised on Einstuerzende Neubauten! They are the roots of industrial for me!
This is industrial rock! Anything with guitars is not true industrial. Leather Strip,Wumpscut,Combichrist . Even old Skinny Puppy before Rabies was good industrial. Partied with Al,Kmfdm, and Ogre back in late 80's and Al was an asshole! Me and Ogre smoked some weed he was cool as shit. he wanted some speed but i didnt fuck with the shit. I still say fuck Nin posers always!
@ranrio70 Since when was there a rule about what instruments an "industrial" group can use? I think what you mean is anything where guitars are the prominent instruments? Otherwise, that smells like a lot of bs.
@ranrio70 He probably would have been nicer if you'd offered to give him a hummer. Of course, then you'd have to deal with a jealous Paul, but life is never easy.
@gangurobitch I know. Next time I'll ask your toothless mother to give me and Al a hummer and we'll both be in a better mood. Then again life is always easier with a good hummer.
This was recorded in Toronto, Canada. there's a bootleg DVD-version of this gig looming around torrent sites. They even played Revolting Cocks classic "No Devotion"

... wow, i love how people actually try and say ministry are better and that NIN copied them... al is a fucking dick, and should probs take a singing lesson. and dont even pull the NIN are sell outs thing, cause its just fucking lame.
that's the stupidest thing i've ever read. (and I mean the first sentence, don't know about the second, but this song rocks! especially in the Hardware movie)
Wow, how did Sepultura get dragged into the conversation? Jon5ish, your ultimate lack of intelligence on this matter makes you a perfect candidate of post-birth abortion. Go eat a shotgun barrel, you NIN fanboy jackoff.
@Aggiechilds You correctly cite Skinny Puppy, but nobody here seems to remember Big Black. I've always thought that Jourgenson's transformation in the late 80's was heavily influenced by stuff like "Racer X" and "Jordan Minnesota". I disagree about Trent Reznor, though. He was destined to succeed on his own terms and ultimately I'd say he's been more influential than Ministry. After the "Mind" album, Ministry did nothing but coast.
I have this bootleg also. Much better quality(the video, not this download) than the 1-28-90 bootleg I have. Love the "you're nothing. you're shit" at the end.
damn...i didn't know Jeff played for Ministry and NIN...sucks his addiction got the best of him. Wonder what Al was on that night lol. fuck it don't matter. I remember I was a kid"well jr. high" just getting into industrial music. Stigmata then PHM by Reznor was like amazing time for me
Everytime I see Al and Ogre together it just makes my day. My two favorite guys... I don't know who I love more ...Al can rock harder but Ogre is more creative and artistic. What u think?
that's fuckin tough. but first off i wouldn't say alien is less artistic. nivek's just more indirect with his delivery. they are both god's and with any luck something will happen between them again no that revco's back and ministry's dead... check out the new skinny puppy tour this fall. starts this month!
i dont know about orge being more creative and artistic? maybe more autisitc you dont know what the fuck your talking about. al reigns supreme in every endeavor hes behind.plus, hes a genius and extremely creative. its not what i think its what i know baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the land of rape and honey is a classic industrial metal record...my other favorite ministry records are the mind is a terriblething to taste and psalm 69...
Saw their farewell gig Finland year ago. Great. Hard to understand how a band this furious can just leave it. Also, I think this version is on the "In case you didn't feel like showing up" album.
Not trying to disrespect the dead but Al Jourgensen had a richer, more dynamic, more heterogeneous catalog through the years than Michael Jackson, plus I never saw Michael Jackson play the wide array of instruments that Al has (guitar, keyboard, mandolin, I mean who makes a mandolin sound bad ass?). Al will probably die not recognized for what he deserves.
@d00derman Also all plays a meen hamonika, as it is now people still think NIN were the ones the bring industrial to the masses , thoe NIN is good but anyone in the no new Trent was playing on early Ministry songs. I dont think Ministry will ever get the respect they deserve but fuck it who wants the status quo saying what you did was good we know al knows.
@d00derman No doubt that they are a large part of why the metal scene looks the way it does. Many times copied, but there's only one Uncle Al. I would have liked them to stay more on the industrial side though then going for a heavy metal cross over. But respect where respect is due.
This version is so raw, I had always thought this song come out later than 88 for some reason, I would have loved to been into ministry back in the 80s. "Just like a car crash, just like a knife, my favorite weapon is the look in your eyes." Is there better lyrics to another song ever? I just dont think so.
Al is so f***ing bad he should be in detention. I wonder what happened to him to cause the transformation from "Haloween is Everyday" Al to "So Fucking What?" Al?

smallfatty,
No Ministry = no Nine Inch Nails. Without Al's influence and dare I say help (1000 Homo Djs, Rev. Co, etc), Trent would have amounted to very little.
That being said, without Skinny Puppy and Kevin Oglvie's help, Al would not have progressed the way he did.
