Let's say, for argumentative purposes, that there are UFO's and aliens. They obviously, according to all the eyewitness statements and videos, are far beyond our technology and could destroy our defenses, if so desired. They haven't done so, unless you count the missile silo shutdown incident and missiles shot down which seemed to be for the better.

It would appear that there is no need for concern. If they're real, I'd say they're just observing us monkeys. Pure curiosity of our behaviors.

He looks like he comeing towards the end of his career and has nothing to lose by making up such a story and isnt flying for a major airline by the looks of that aircraft he is in. If it was described as a near miss in Pilot Magazine, 40-50 nautical miles distance to the UFO doesn't tally. Maybe if you're an F15 with afterburners on., not his aircraft.

I think he saw a mirage of the island of Guernsey. From the locations he gives, the island appears long, thin and sharp-ended, as well as yellow/green in colour. Seen in a superior mirage, it could look as if a huge object fitting that description was hanging in the air above the sea.

According to ATC, the radar picked up "some activity" not "a mile wide flying saucer hovering over Guernsey". False radar images and discrepancies are nothing unusual. Whatever occurred on radar was most likely trivial, which to controllers, did not constitute evidence of a UFO. However, the media jumps on things like this to make the story a bit more spectacular, which people then intrepret as proof.
