  • Wrestling's First Family - The Von Erichs!

  • I used to love to watch you wrestle Kerry. R.I.P

  • R.I.P Von Erich family! They are legends of wrestling! 8(

  • No one may believe it, but back in the early 80's before anyone in Texas knew or cared anything about wrestling outside of Texas, the Von Erichs were almost as big as the Cowboys were. Von Erich was a household name; when you mentioned that name EVERYONE knew exactly who you were talking about. Thats cuz if you weren't staying up every Friday night to watch them, all of your neighbors surely were!!!

  • @LWilson74

    great post bro.

  • I think the Von Erichs are a very underrated family. They have done alot for the busness and they are not mentioned as much as the other families. It upsets me that they were not even mentioned in that WWE Top 50 greatest superstars of all time

  • From what I have read, they were a close-knit family, and each brother idolized their older brothers. For a small, less athletic kid like Chris you could see why he idolized Kerry, who looked like a comic book hero come to life. In retrospect it's sad (though understandable) that Mike and Chris, the smaller brothers chose/were pushed to go into wrestling. I understand that Mike was more artistic (music/photography) and Chris was a real animal lover.

  • In the good old days, I was able to catch WCCW on ESPN (and AWA, NWA/JCP, and WWF). A wonderful time to become a 9 year old wrestling fan. WCCW wasn't my specialty, but the Von Erichs are absolute legends. A highlight of the PS2 game Legends of Wrestling was to be able to team up Fritz, David, Kerry and Kevin for some 8-man tag team action. And what a tragedy. I think clinical depression played as big a role as drugs for them. Imagine your brothers dying so young, just soul crushing.

  • The Von Erichs were awesome and some of my childhood heros! So sad that they all died so young (with the exception of Kevin). David was my favorite because he was the firey one. I liked Kerry because he was sexy one. I also like Kevin-- he was the strong one. Poor Mike was the gentle one. I hope Kevin is happy and I hope his brothers are resting in peace.

  • I don't understand why death is what some of them choosed

  • they should do a damn movie!

  • @Justs0MEGUY11

    very good point

  • I was only able to see Kerry Von Erich wrestle as the Texas Tornado when he went to the WWE. Never saw the other brothers in action. This is a great tribute video to a very sad story. They all died way too young.

  • R.I.P Savage

  • omg sad sad sad

    they died to young

they had a 6 year old brother who died

god bless the mother annd kevin

  • this was awesome, brings back alot of memories,I remember these guys doing the pizza hut commercials, and kicking ass in the ring...sure wish I could go back to that era.

  • rip von erich family

  • It is were my name came from

  • Id like to visit the graves

  • @Thebadguy1987

They are buried by my family... fyi

  • Wrestlers dont die, they are only sleeping and waiting for awakening in the memories of their fans

  • The Von Erich family will live Forever !!!!

  • @JonathanVonErich Real sad but the only one i feel sorry for is there daddy.WOW all his sons killed them self.Well from what i was told shot gun wow real good video

  • @NewOrleansRipGut - Absolutely false. Fritz had 6 sons. Jack, Jr., Kevin, David, Kerry, Mike, & Chris. Only the youngest three killed themselves.

  • @wpbsgwm well let me say it this way all his son's that was on tv

  • @NewOrleansRipGut Again totally not true. Kevin and David were on television far more than Mike or Chris and neither one of them committed suicide.

  • @wpbsgwm yeaa jack jr dies of an accident at 6

  • @wpbsgwm jack jr died of an accident at 6 years old

  • The best video ever !

  • i know that i am young but i grew up on the von erichs. i miss the good old days. my mother passed when i was younger but the good thing is she is buried right next to the von erichs. so when i go see my mom i get to stop by say hi to the good old boys RIP von erichs

  • i have to say this is one of best tribute videos ever. this song goes great with this .the von erichs was one of greatest .it was sad what happen to theme i feel so sorry for kevin.i miss this old school wrestling.this is what they need to bring back this type of wrestling open the tertories back up again it is better that way.in stead of one vince mcman telling u what to do.

  • Those are the days when everyone in Dallas was excited to watch Saturday night and Sunday morning wrestling. The weekends were a reward, after a hard week at school. What kid didn't get hyped and make believe he was fighting the much hated freebirds, during commercial breaks? Those guys were the sweethearts of Dallas, back then. Great entertainers during a great local era. Good times.

  • !!! the VON ERICH'S , such a tragedy that cold of been prevented !!!

  • ~All Brothers Together~

  • What the shame nobody could stop them killing themselves

  • @janborrowitz wouldnt it be neat and wonder what it would be like if they were all still alive

  • growing up in California the 80s, I didn't have cable tv, so the only exposure to WCCW that I had were the apter mags - but the Von Erichs just seemed so awesome I always wanted to see them. fans today can't really appreciate what it was like. I miss the days of territories, when wrestling was WRESTLING

  • janbowwowitz Gracias x la informacion my friend. regards

  • These men were great athletes. Outstanding perforners. I will miss them all, including Kevin even though he is still here with us, they were what wrestling was all about. The Von Erichs were my role models. I decided to not become a wrestler when I found out what had happened to David. We will miss them all. God bless the Von Erichs

  • TO WERSTLING FANS LIKE ME, WRESTLING CAN BE ENTERTAINMENT, BUT IT HAS BEEN A REALLY REALLY SAD WORLD, I MISS ALL THE VON ERICHS

  • Kerry IC champion 4ever

  • I think this guys would be more successful, if they werent focused on their father. For example Kerry (90-92) WWF RIP

  • My childhood heros !

  • I grew up watching the Von Erichs both on television and also saw several matches. Wrestling is certainly something different now what with the fireworks, tits and beer cans all over the place. There's nothing at all local or even regional about the competitors as there was at one time. And it's really inappropriate for the Jesus freaks to come in here suggesting that you know something about where these men are today. Your fairly tale is even more fake than wrestling is an actual sport.

  • I thank it is wonderful the AirTexas posted this video. for two years now i have been watching this video over and over. The Von Erichs that are no longer around would of been proud that you made a speacil tribute just for them. Thank you......

  • there fukin merf

  • they are all in hell now cause they all commite suicide botom line period

  • @darrenderrick If they accepted Jesus as their personal savior they are in heaven. Suicide is not the unpardonable sin.

  • @luvthemts The family did know Jesus. Multiple time guests on the 700 Club.

  • if you really believe that then your god is a bigger asshole than you are.

  • not all

mike died not from suicide if you gon sayem sayum right

    get your facts strait

  • @invasion1036 : He most certainly DID die from suicide... and learn to spell.

  • @DeepSouthWrestling1 its calld pidgeon dummy i live in hawaii

  • @invasion1036 : sigh... you're doing it again... it's "pidgin"!!!!

  • @DeepSouthWrestling1 shut the fuk up k

  • @invasion1036 : wow... nice comeback...

  • @DeepSouthWrestling1 Fuck you. You are such a Haole

  • @invasion1036 - Mike did commit suicide with an overdose of sleeping pills (placidyl). He left a suicide not

  • @wpbsgwm mike died of an overdose of a tranquilizer

  • @darrenderrick - These comments are cruel and ridiculous. When Jesus was on the cross, he didn't ask the thief being crucified next to him if he was a Christian, or if he'd been baptised or how he took communion. He said to him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.” Only God judges who comes into his Kingdom. I pray people who would condemn the Von Erichs stop it and begin to concentrate on "Thy will be done on EARTH" Bring a little bit of heaven here each day.

  • so sad-only enduring memory lingers here........

  • Kerry was the most successful wrestler of Von Erichs family, wasnt he ?

  • @janborrowitz He's the only one who made it to the WWF, though his tenure was short and he went back to Texas.

  • yea I know and thats why he is the most successfull Von Erich. Fritz had to feel any remorse, because he was too hard on his sons(especially Mike after Davids death). Huge tragedy.....gone but not forgotten RIP

  • @janborrowitz Hola, Can you tell me how was the Die of Von Erich brothers ??

    Gracias

  • Por supuesto :-) Jackie was killed in 1959 by electr.cutt, ing, David died in 1984 due to stomach rupture, Mike commited suicide in 1987 by pills, Chris in 1991 by gun and Kerry in 1993 by gun.

  • The Von Erich spirit lives through Kevin now.

  • too hard deal

  • R.I.P.

  • RIP.

  • So sad these guys were fucking legends.

  • i cry for all of them, especially the youngest of the Von Erich family, Chris. Poor guy wanted to do what he loved, but his bones and asthma prevented him from doing so. I feel sorry for all these fellas. Poor Kevin and his Mother for having to endure losing their 5 sons and brothers. They had an older brother too who died when he was 7 because of an electrocution in a pond. RIP to some of the finest wrestlers ever produced in Texas.

  • I hope Jackie jr., David, Mike, Chris, Kerry and Fritz live in heaven together.....

  • Texas Tornado FTW!!! R.I.P. Von Erichs!!!, Truly A Legendary Family!!!

  • no sry am kidding....fugu fish

  • WTF??!

  • Does anyone know where this music came from?

  • @BigfootMag From the popup ad on the video from my viewing, it's "The Road to Perdition" by Thomas Newman.

  • love the von erichs, the legacy lives on,,,lacey may not be a great of wrestler like her dad but at least she is trying, she will get up there

  • David Von Erich was destined to be one of the greatest wrestlers off al time.

    RIP.

  • By the way, that is an incredible video, and a fitting and touching tribute.

  • Anyway, we sure miss all you guys, Kevin, and remember, yall will always be Lake Dallas'.

  • I went to school and grew up with all of these guys in Lake Dallas, TX. (Kevin A., if you read this, I knew Brian G. very well too.) They were good guys and Jack was a very dear man. We would run into him at the little, (and at that time, the only) grocerey store in Lake Dallas, Food Fare. Anyway, we'd say hi to him and he would shake our hands. I remember going to Food Fare with my Granny when I was pretty small, and she said hi to Jack. He called her by her first name and gave her a big hug.:)

  • I don't know how Kevin does it. He once said that he was the oldest brother to having no brothers at all. I know it was his family of wife and kids that help him through this troblue time in his life.I lost my mother and I have to say that I did it the same way he did. I hope to be as good of a man as him so I can see my mother again someday.

  • That was a great video. It's a very fitting and powerful tribute. I have read that Chris and Mike felt like they were not as great as their older brothers. I wish they hadn't felt that way. I was as happy to watch them on TV as I was any of the other Von Erich brothers. It's too bad that they didn't give themselves more time to feel worthy. They WERE worthy, even if they didn't know it. It's such a shame that they may have felt like they weren't measuring up. It's sad. Thanks for a great video.

  • @mikeferr107 I agree with your statement about them being worthy. I think Mike and Chris were simply too young. I dont think you can fill the shoes of David, Kevin and Kerry when your only 19 or 20 but I think it was expected of them to be wrestlers ready for it or not and clearly they werent. I know Chris wanted it more then anything. Not so sure about Mike thought.

  • I hope all of them will meet themselves together in heaven

  • Loved the Von Erichs. Those WCCW days were great.

    Long rivalries, scaffold matches...

The dynamic between the Freebirds and the Von Erichs might be one of the best in history.

I wish ESPN Classic would put on WCCW stuff instead of AWA. But for some reason, I feel like WWE owns that library.

  • David died of problems relating to a haert attack in 1984

Mike commited suicide in 1987 via sleeping pills

Chris commited suicide vis a gunshot to the head in 1991

Kerry commited suicide vis a gunshot to the chest in 1993

  • kerry shot himself

    david died of steriod overdoes

    mike commited suicide

chris shot himself because of his dead brother.

  • david did'nt die of steriods overdose

  • But Chris lost in this period already 2 brothers - David and Mike.....because of who brother he commited suicide ?

  • Awesome. Amazing tribute. Blessed by the Von Erich Family.

  • Kerry was the best wrestler

  • my biggest complaint is new school fans that didnt grow up with these guys, they come on here talking like they know something,I have to set them straight, you dont know shit about our era, watching vids on youtube doesnt do it justice, we lived it, we where the real fans, there are no more real wrestling ,only smarks that think they know everything, they criticize everything. they want to be bookers, sadly most are probably fry cooks at mcdonalds and burn the fries, this was my era,RIP VE Boys

  • Thank you

  • Well said, fellow Texan! There is not now, nor will there ever be a dynasty as great as the Von Erichs.

  • Comment removed

  • I understand you...se define this era to me. To an ignorant

  • @TexarkanaBraveheart theres no more bookers, only producers, writers, etc.

  • @TexarkanaBraveheart Right on

  • @TexarkanaBraveheart couldnt stand the Von Erichs- hated their guts! Was a Ric Flair guy from the word go! But you are spot on Braveheart! SPOT FREAKING ON- It dont matter if you loved or hated any of those guys. That was wrestling-

Do you remember going to a show, and the curtain jerkers would come out and wrestle 15 minutes? LOL Now if the main event goes 15 its a freaking miracle! Keep preachin Braveheart, I may not have liked your VEs but I love the sermon!

  • @TexarkanaBraveheart

i saw a documentary on em pretty sad, a sad fate for most wrestlers that abuse.

im from the attitude era ha ha.

  • @TexarkanaBraveheart you got it bro these kids now days do not know what real wrestling is yeah back then you had props and stuff but when they got mad at each other back then it was not fake all the time like the crap they show now days the Von Erich's were the best and always will be the best i knew them personally and really miss them very much.

  • Comment removed

  • And what about Chris ? he didnt die ?

  • Chris died too But Coz of Steroids That make Him Sucide.Mike too But kerry Died by A tragedy but i dosent noe about fritz

  • so he died because he used steroids?that doesnt make any sense...he killed himself because he was depressed everybody knows that

  • Comment removed

  • dont beleive he real type him in on youtube and the internet

  • i think my dad went against an von erich yer my dad use to wrestle he was called jim breaks his real name david cudd

  • I loved wotching the Von Erichs as a kid. I'ts just such a damn shame that David's unexpected death caused the downward mental spiral of three of his brothers. Their selfish suicides leaves too much weight for Kevin to bear. God's speed Kevin Von Erich. May your path lead you to great things.

  • I got to meet Kevin and Kerry Von Erich twenty years ago at the Sportatorium on the night that I attended my first card...

  • I gotta wonder how different the family would be today if David had lived and won the NWA Heavyweight championship. I think that was the catalyst that sent Mike over the edge along with Chris and Kerry but then again I'm probably wrong.

All in all they were all taken before they were done and they were ahead of their time and its shame to see it

    Long live the Von Erichs

  • Thank you from Czech Republic. Great do cuments

  • I understand that Iron Sheik taught all 5 of the brothers and there is only one left. What a tragedy! They were all GREAT specimans! God Rest their souls.

  • Man!! These were the men of the their times!! I remember rushing inside before their matches started. I prayed that Kerry would once again put Rick Flair in the "Iron Claw". Wrestling today is so commercial and predictable, the thrill is. Oh hey the "performances" are wild and entertaining but too "TV" for me. Regardless of what is said about this family they were and always will be the sh*t to me, for they had skill. As a texan I can say that they did us proud.

  • It's too bad Kevin and Kerry didn't wrestle in the WWF in the 80's. Keving wrestling barefoot would have driven Jesse Ventura nuts.

  • kerry did wrestle in the WWF

  • the saying goes, there's nothing more stubbornly proud than a Texan. The Von Erich family has much to be "Texas proud" of. These men should be hailed as the epic men they were, not be used as conspiracy/rumor fodder. In pro wrestling there are so many great people who have been cheated their due by goofy rumors that become legend. the wrestling business itself is a "work" so take it for what it is and respect the legacy of those who did epic things.

  • Comment removed

  • i grew up at the sportatorium on sat nights watching all these great matches

  • This is TEXAS right here! I grew up in Austin watching these guys on tv, what great memories. To this day, nothing has matched the Von Erichs vs Freebirds feud. What a tragedy, they will be forever missed.

  • so sad...great video and a beautiful song, what´s the name??

  • A world class tribute for one of the great wrestling families of all-time! God Bless the Von Erichs.

  • Great video. Sad.

  • The Von Erich's are in the 2009 Hall of Fame

Their athletic career will always be remembered

as they are a part of history now. Well done Fritz

I hope the new generation of the Von Erich's find

success & are healthy and well. Good Luck Ross &

    Lacey

  • now are Lacey and Ross Kevins kids, how are they related?

  • Ross is Kevin's, Lacey is Kerry's

  • 1st cousins

  • I have tears running down my face as I watch this. Thank you for uploaded this wonderful tribute to such wonderful, beautiful men taken all too soon from us. Can't wait to see the brothers in the Hall of Fame.

  • Sorry, I meant "uploading", not "uploaded". See how my emotions distracted me? : )

  • That was a beautiful memorial, I don't wish this on anyones family. God Bless the Von Erichs.

  • I don't believe that at all. You have too understand that there were drugs involved with every von erich son that died for the exception of David. Fritz didn't tell his kids to take drugs. Everything that happen to them they brought it on too themselves. they had have to take responsibility for their own actions and they didn't want too. so saying that fritz killed his children is incorrect. They brought it on to themselves and that is the bottom line.

  • Agree to Disagree. I love this vid and regardless of what we each think. This is a classic and i only wish that each of them were here to see what the world have done for them in their honor.

  • just imagine if these guys were still around,WCCW wud still be around!my elder brother was around durin the era of the territories, man i wish i was a wrestling fan durin that period of time!vevery week, wudve been epic!

  • All these guys died way too young

  • God bless the Von Erichs

  • who's left?

  • just Kevin

  • awsome video!!, wow they all died at once, like 1 behind the other, its soooo sad, only 1 von erich is alive today, i bet he thinks about his brothers and father everyday!!!, ..again awsome video!!! i got tears in my eyes right now no joke,

  • yeah kevin von erich he was the oldest and he must be screwed up because of his brothers dying david die from a repture in his stomach mike took his own life by an overdose chris shot himself in the head and kerry shot himself in the chest man know wonder he quit wrestling this shows you u can have everything in the world but with out gudence in dirction it could lead to death rest in peace david mike chris kerry von erich

  • yeah thats true, i watched the world class championship wrestling dvd, and i just couldnt believe that they died like that one by one, which one died because he was too small to be a wrestler, wasnt that the youngest one?

  • yeah chris von erich

  • yeah the youngest, Chris

  • He had brittle bones so he couldn't do the bumps.

  • its a shame people wernt around to stop Kerry Mike and Chris cause they still would of been around

  • Great, great video. Really touching. Thank you so much for making and posting this.

  • Im feeling sad! Does anyone else feel it too?

  • Awesome video, awesome music! I found this video by mistake trying to find out about WCCW and the Von Erichs. I think the lessons to be learned is that of taking resposiblily for your actions and that too much too soon too fast can cost a person. It is a tragic what happpened no doubt but when a person is medicating with drugs bad things happen. God bless the Von Erichs though and thank you.

  • i think the youngest died at 21 or 23 years old, 6 brothers, today 5 are dead =(

  • on 2:56 when Kerry is coming in with the wwf logo in the background, the music getting more dramatic and his robe sparking because of the camera flashes, the swear it brought a tear to my eye

  • I grew up in Tx watching them on tv&in person.I was there at the Sportatorium in'84,when they made the announcement about David.

  • Awesome tribute, I really felt it... Thank you, AirTexas!

I am a Von Erichs fan forever. May the ones that are no longer with us rest in peace and God bless the ones that are still here. I salute and admire Mrs. Adkisson and Kevin's strength.

  • WOW that was sooo moving

  • didnt Mike, Chris, and Kerry all commit suicide?

  • Yes. Very sad.

  • yes and no, Mike was in a car accident that made him go brain dead and he recovered and lost alot of movement in his body. He had a mind of a 2 year old and mixed a barbituate with alcohol. Chris was frustrated and depressed over the loss of his two brothers and couldn't perform in the ring. Kerry had a drug related problem.

  • Mike's toxic shock syndrom was caused from a surgery on his shoulder from an injury in the ring, It had nothing to do with a car accident and he didn't go brain dead and he certainly did not have the mind of a two year old. Honestly the inaccurate, insulting, and silly things that people post with no regard for facts.

  • Wikipedia (according to DH Smith) "A Nerd's opinion presented as fact." It's impossible to imagine that Doris would have ever said that about any of her sons. Mike absolutely did not have the mind of a two year old
