Um, I would urge you to discern a bit more on who Rob Bell is and what he really believes. His social gospel is not the gospel of the Bible! He and the whole Emergent camp are not taking scripture seriously.

i agree that Christians SHOULD be reaching out to this hurting, sick, naked, dying world. But all in all that's not the heart of the gospel. Its seeing folks getting saved from their sins! Do we clothe and feed and help? Sure we do! We also inform people about what it actually is that carries them to Hell: sin. THAT'S the original disease at the heart of every man and woman. Rob [emergent church] doesn't like the idea of Hell, which is sad b/c Jesus spoke very much about it.

@jazzaah The gospel is the message of Jesus Christ dying on the Cross for the forgiveness of sins and three days later He rose from the dead proving that He was indeed the Son of God. If one repents of their sin and puts their trust in Him then God will grant everlasting life to them.Our social justice issues do not usurps God's clear and direct words regarding our sin and the consequences for it.

@Eric0873...those um, "socail justice issues" are people. i agree, a social gospel without Jesus and the Cross is not complete, but Jesus came preaching and repentace from sin for the kingdom of God is near. the bible says if u have two shirts, give your spare to someone in need when talking abwt repentance. if u live in the west chances are ur part of the 20% which consumes 80% of the worlds resources at the expense if 30,000 kids a day. what are God's "clear direct words regarding that sin?"

@Eric0873 and rob bell says a lot aout hell. but at the same time, i think hed prefer to invite people to join a movement of love by showing them it, rather than invite them to join a movement of love by scaring them into it. there is truth about hell, which he does preach, hes just passionate to also help the church see that a gospel of salvation only for sin is just as redundant as the gospel many christians hate on that is simply about salvation from hunger, and pain.

@Eric0873 he may be too far to one side for sure, (tho he stil does preach freedom from sin and its wages in Jesus name), but way to many christians r too far to the other side and bring the gospel a crap name coz they dont allow themsleves to b transorfmed by the renewing of ther minds, and end up presenting a cheap verson of the gospel that isnt consistent with the teachings of scripture. and far too often we simply write a cheque for chaity and fool ourselves into thinking we'v loved the poor

I think you need to have ears to hear what he is saying. If God can speak through a burning bush, he speaks through Rob Bell. I don't know of too many people following a different gospel through his insite.

@236lbsnomore I don't know that comparing Rob Bell to a burning bush would be accurate or even a close simile! Rob has several deviated doctrinal differences with most of biblical evangelical Christianity. My point regarding his social justice "gospel" is that it tends to re-prioritize the goals rather than stick with what Jesus truly came to the Earth to accomplish...forgiveness of sins.

@Eric0873 i thought he came to accomplish restoration for the world like it says in colossians 1:20....if we view the gospel as only for me and u, then the truth that we must care for our world, for the environment and all of creation almost becomes redundant....wouldnt u say? the gospel is ar more holistic in scripture than we seem to make it out to be these days. after all we were created in the garden to rule over creation like God rules us; with love.

@jazzaah we do have priorities for sure. like it wud be better to see someone saved than give them money, after all thered be an epic feast waiting for them lol. but, the gospel is incomplete if its just for freedom from the wages of sin...coz its about restoration for the whole world, and about God reconciling all things

@jazzaah No, our job is not to "make the world a better place". That will be God's job for sure. We are called to be salt and light to this hurting and dying world to seek and save that which is lost. Preaching the gospel of forgiveness of sins turns the heart of a man/woman to truly see how far we've fallen. Social gospels are like re-painting tombs..the heart of mankind needs to be raised from the dead so that the body can be properly restored.

@jazzaah Right, all I'm saying is that guys like Bell, McLaren and the Emergent church movement take "making the world a better place" as if that's the primary vision Jesus had for us as NT Christians. We are commanded to preach the gospel to every creature and surely to do it in love, warning of a pending Day of Judgment. I'm talking about a gospel that abases man and glorifies God. Social issues are important, but not at the cost of the Savior's blood as the sacrifice for our sins.
