I love this spiritual song. If you ask me, the song is fine the way it is. The point of spiritual music is to deliver a messege. Son House's "Grinin in Your Face" is another good example of delivering a messege.

PS: Kanye West sampled this song and yes his version is "catchy" but in no way is it superior (in my opinion). His version defeats the purpose of the spiritual element that makes the song aesthetic. It's a dance tune for the most part.

The ARC Coir (and the organization for that matter) got started at my church - this was before I started going there some 12 years ago -and I for one am happy that Kanye was given this to sample so that it could reach a much larger audience. So often producers are given samples that have no credits attached or are copies of bootlegged material to begin with. (this is why we need to stop buying bootleg & always attach the credits to digital samples so that the small artists get their due credit

I dunno why no one realize that Samplin is a very used and important tecnique today. Every popular singer/rapper/musician used samples. Madonna sampled an Abba's Song. Bittersweet Symphony sampled The Last Time. And Black Eyed Peas sampled Misirlou like Kanye sampled this song. Sometimes sampling helps new artists to be sucessful as Eminem's Stan and Dido. There's nothing wrong with sampling if you pay royalties.

...if copying was easy everyone could write music for commercials, but that is not the case. First takes the creativity of hearing potential in a song, second creating a good beat that most find appealing and then the addition of your own (or a studio musician's) music and finally the lyrics have to make a connection with the song and listeners..... i disagree yes kanye does choose good songs to sample but the only reason he is a good producer is his ability to know what sells not making good music he is a sub par rapper with skills in marketing you are a prime example of this truth. He doesnt just sample music he takes almost entire songs and throws a beat underneath it a sample is taking a small portion of music and making it your own not taking entire tracks and adding here and there.
