  • Um hello, they do like to interact! Your guinea pigs are cute!

  • However most of your information was correct with a few exceptions. I forgot to put this in my last message.

  • I wondered what is incorrect? I like to get facts right, so please tell me if you know of any errors, I would appreciate it!

  • You are irritating. If your guinea pigs don't want to interact with you, you aren't paying enough attention to them.

  • No, they just don't like to be picked up. I pay exactly the right amount of attention to them. Every animal is different, so you really have no idea what MY pigs need, as they are different from your pigs, of which I'm sure you've had thousands of.

  • Great video!!! I Love Animals and i also have guinea pigs!!(alot for that matter) BUt i love all of them!!!!BUt i dont breed them!!

  • i love your video and your honesty about how much work guineapigs are. yeah they are adorable and sweet, but they take a lot of time and effort for fairly little reward. i was unaware of what it took to own a cavy when i got mine from a pet store. i ended up giving them to a friend that had more spare time than me. i actually cried when i gave them away. they're adorable and funny but not the pet for me. people need videos like this to show the real side of what owning a guinea pig is like.ty=)

  • cool video response burlapin :)

  • Thanks. I just like to bring balance to people's thought processes on getting a pig. Cute videos are nice, but it's important to see the other side!

  • My son has a guinea pig which he begged me for for over a year to get. I finally gave in and bought one. I absolutely fell in love with him. He is the most vocal and adorable guinea pig I have ever seen. He loves to eat celery when I hold him.

  • I love animals. I have 3 pigs of my own.

No, they don't do back flips through fucking rings of fire, but they are cute as hell and nice little creatures. Open your heart to them, you may be surprised to see how much they CAN connect with humans. This video was lame, your attitude is lame, but hey I had to comment. Try changing your outlook, because it kinda sucks.

  • Very perceptive... I'm at least doing the right thing and taking (excellent) care of them and not foisting them off into another animal shelter. I just want people to know that, as a pet, they certainly will not live up to the expectations of other animals. My outlook sucks because my pigs kinda suck. I'm trying to help: if someone thinking of getting a pig or two only sees all the positive stuff about them and never now sucky they can be, they might feel they were ill informed (as I was).

  • (Part 2)

I don't want pigs to be adopted and then neglected or given up because people didn't know what they were getting in to.

For the record my pigs are super happy. We have an understanding; I no longer expect them to be as cool as cats or dogs or other thinking animals, and they look cute for me when I offer them treats.

  • I love your black guinea pig's hair its so incredible!

  • ...but they're now tame enough to eat outside the cage & they come to the front of the cage for food.

I don't think they'll ever be tamed like the others but I think that's because the breeder never handled them when bubs. It's important to handle straight away when born (after settling with mum of course).

  • Well that's good. I thought your video would put people off & give guineas a bad reputation-see what I mean?

Breeding is bad but the way you're saying it in the video suggests that it's only bad because there'll be more 'unfriendly', 'unhandleable' guineas in the world-when the real reason should be because of all the homeless guineas & difficult births.

I do have 2 guinea pigs myself which are scared of people (that's 2 out of 11!)...

  • Sorry I just remembered that you said they were rescues? That is probably why they run from you and hardly came out of their hidey when you were giving them those treats. You can't own 2 and then say that ALL guinea pigs are like that. Two of my guinea pigs even put their paws on my wrist when I reach in the cage to help me pick them up. :-)

  • Yeah, I think that their past definately has affected them. But they have improved hugely! Simon wouldn't even let himself be petted, never mind picked up, when we first got him. Now, after lots of work with him, he's a lot better. But I still don't think they are the typical guinea pigs. But, it's how they are, and there are other pigs like them. I just want people to know the bad side of them, as well as how cool they can be.

  • If they have a small cage they aren't likely to do much which is why a big cage is important.

  • No way are they hard to look after - I have 11 & I'm 16 yrs old (doing my GCSEs).

Your're the only person who has ever said that guineas are ugly.. everyone I know thinks they have cute looks. In what way are they dumb? They are only rodents for Goodness sake so they don't do tricks & stuff but they ain't 'dumb'.

If they were boring like MistyWaterWoman suggests I don't think I'd have as many as 11. My guineas give me kisses & coo at me - Chinchillas probably don't!

  • You SOOOO dont give guinea pigs a good reputation.

They are FAR more than you give them credit for.

If you are getting a pet mainly to 'amuse' you then maybe youre better buying a digital pet that might do what you programme them to do.

If I sound harsh it is because these little critters are awesome and deserve more respect and good press than youre giving them.

I have a number of guinea pigs and couldnt be without them.

  • You are more of a guinea pig person than I am. I simply don't enjoy them as pets. I am a cat person, a dog person... not a prey animal person. I'm glad you like pigs! They would be perfect for some people.

  • I feel the SAME way - mine are cute but they don't do much. When you can get another pet, try a chinchilla; they make awesome pets! Still not a high level of affection (more like a cat) but they are loads of fun and super cool.
