Not one of the countries you refer to is running their healthcare system in the black. Every one of these programs is deeply in debt or failing as evidenced by commentary from doctors and officials involved with them. When deciding what is "good" I believe more in reviewing the merits of the position rather than a simple alignment with a perceived concensus. Our constitution and those that founded it did not want Government in control of this sort of thing because it breeds corruption.
What a joke. This false dichotomy garbage needs to stop. People who are opposed to this SPECIFIC plan are NOT necessarily opposed to REFORM. Another example of word play for the weak minded.
Why did his insurance go up 42%? Does he qualify under any other provider? Does Nebraska have a state plan to help with child care (mine does)? Rachel asked none of these questions. She merely continued his use as a pawn in this political game.
HR 3200 is a specific plan to reform health care. If a person disagrees with any provisions of HR 3200, then are they against all health care reform?
Pointing out media spin and asking questions is a far cry from "spreading bullshit." It is being an independent critical thinker, instead of a pre-chewed pablum swallower. And, isn't that a good thing?
You have a private and public education system here so I don't see why those options can not apply to health care. There has to be more to the bill then just offering a cheap insurance alternative. Costs have to be capped because right now costs are out of control.
This guy is a small business owner that is clearly looking for a free ride on insurance from the government. He's playing right into the hands of liberals in doing so. This guy will dump his employees into government healthcare as fast as he can if it's passed. This is exactly what the argument is all about, the fact that this plan will kill private insurance as business owners force their employees into government healthcare, eventually creating a single payer system.
politicaly: What is wrong with a government run healthcare system? I mean you don't have any problems with Medicare which is a government run healthcare programme. Every industrialised country in the world except America has Universal Healthcare. How can you believe you are a great country when 49 million Americans don't have healthcare under the current Capitalist system. Private insurance companies are the problem NOT the solution!
i don't care if Democrat Ben Nelson is defeated by another Democrat, a Republican, or a member of the Bull Moose Party -- BEN NELSON MUST BE DEFEATED!
From an economic view it isn´t illogical. Competition in markets only work if you have no market failure, i.e. a polypolistic market.
On the other hand, imperfect markets are far more realistic, in which competition isn´t the logical outcome. There are vary examples for it; take an oligopolistic market in which the firms don´t take an aggressive move because it would ultimatly hurt themselves.
So before laughing you should first consider all possible outcomes.
Oh boy, to listen to that from Europe is kind of strange to me. I am spending here some years before returning to the US. Here you have a public insurance which covers more than the basic needs. And it has nothing to do with socialism as GOP always talks about. Instead it helps you to live a little bit easier, because you don´t have to be afraid to become ill while you are not insured. Here all people have an insurance and in my view it is a basic right in a modern society.
You clearly have not had to actually use the system you are talking about. Any major issue requiring a specialist's care will change your mind pretty quick.
Smart reporting by Rachel. As she said "the story behind the story" is the real truth about how health care insurance reform is being sandbagged by our elected reps.
The Church of the Pink Unicorn says healthcare reform now!!

Barack needs to publicly state that he'll veto any bill which does not have the PUBLIC OPTION.

See there you go. Have Obama do that and we'll never pass any bills into law. It's far better than any "progress" can make.
