  • I had a tiny fragment of this song stuck in my head, spent a solid 15 minutes trying to come up with what song it was. Worth it though.

  • The subject of the song sounds a lot more like stability and structure in a life than religion specifically. Religious imagery just kinda makes it more poetic.

What I'm hearing from the song is eschew the shackles of society and live the life you want in your heart. One foot on the gas, living full speed, and one foot in the grave, understanding exactly what you're doing and ready for the places it might take you

  • I cannot get enough of SM ! Seriously my shittttt

  • @rachellynnkitchen eww.. courtesy flush

  • dying sucks.....at least..i wanna see them at least once so i die happy

  • can somebody tell me whats the meaning of the song?

  • @TheThedawnishere1 From my perspective, I think it's about a person/people, who are in trouble with someone and are on borrowed time. Just my idea though.

  • @TheThedawnishere1 I think it is about how we couldn't live before without religion and now athiests can live without it. Streetlight Manifesto is a very athiest band

  • @NotEvenReal14 kinda reminds me of streetlight manifesto's song "we fall together" will thx for replaying its been 3 weeks...

  • @TheThedawnishere1 I'm pretty sure i remember it being a personal song, about the band. They had one foot on the gas, going full throttle to get it going, living by the moment when it was first starting up. And one foot in the grave, if it failed they were pretty much done for. Least that's what i read somewhere at some point, wresting the meaning from their songs is one of my favorite parts about Streetlight Manifesto.

  • seeing them tonight!:DDDD ive been waiting for this since the day after i saw them last year:D

  • seeing them in manhattan in a couple weeks, loving everything.

  • It amazes me how every single song by this band can have so much meaning to it. Not to mention the amazing musicianship. I'm so excited to see them live - with Reel Big Fish, no less

  • Absolutely amazing song by an absolutely amazing band.

  • This tune just gets me every time. My best friend died a year ago sunday in a car crash. How poignant can streetlight get? Every line, every song, is packed with more meaning than I can even begin to interpret. Kalnoky is a genius. Blessings to the people who've passed from this world.

  • Seeing them in June with Reel Big Fish:D

    good, fuck your dog.

  • @VALObrand LMAO!

  • @TheSynisterxX ROFL!

  • its about drugs :P

  • streetlight is the only band hat makes me listen to all their songs and like them

  • @jesus121212121212 nnnnnaaaaaahhhh not only these guys. you could listen to any, and EVERY Led-Zeppelin song, and enjoy them. inb4 i only have albums I- IV, because i have I-IV AND Physical Graffiti, Houses Of The Holy, In Through The Out Door, and Presence. >:3 i love how Streetlight Manifesto has a completely different sound on every one of their albums.. and their redo of Keasbey Nights is more kick-ass and more enjoyable than Catch -22's. .... all their albums are amazing. :]

  • i think its about trying to move forward but having something hold u back...

  • Aww two people missed the like button -.-

  • I like to think it is about being in the mafia, or a wanted criminal. The opening is about joining for greed, but after it seems to be that they enjoyed their position in life rather than doing it simply for money.

    But whatever. Wicked song.

  • @Robocrat

yup, this entire album is a religious satire

  • Streetlight Manifesto Is a revolution, and changes the world. All theres songs sound different, but all are the same, and have different meaning. For example, 'We all idolize the past...' It's true...

  • SKATASTICK

  • @questionmark1331 Skawesome...

  • SKATASTICK

  • I actually do think it's about religion. On par with "Down Down Down to mephistos cafe" with how it's got good intention, but the people who sopposedly follow it are corrupt and don't understand it...and nine times out of ten they lied to me.

  • went to see them in bristol last year, missed all but the last 3 songs due to huge traffic jam but it was f~~cking amazing!

  • I WILL wait til the very end!

  • I love streetlight's lyrics. It's basically badass poetry, sung as ska music. What can get better than that?

  • 3 ppl at the same place/seeing the same vid hmmmmmmm interesting

  • I saw them live at Reading 09, Was Actually one Of the best moments of my life ever :D:D!! They are My Favourite Band by faaarr :D. And this is SUCH a tunne

  • SAME! I probally danced past you at some part during them playing :D.

My mate told me to go see them an since Reading im hooked an in love with there music!

  • cant wait for the new album i would camp out and wait in line but i think id be the only one.

  • i'd wait with you

  • I'd wait with you

  • Id wait aswell!

  • Fighting on youtube is lame, especially if you argue on this song... =/

  • wish they were still on tour....

  • So do I but think about it this way, a new SLM album is on the way!

  • Pollution!? Wtf. Quit thinking so straight.

  • @BassClar4evr Life and Death mate. That's how I interpret the lyrics :)

  • For, or against religion?

  • im so excited...im seein these guys live next week...its gonna be awesome!

  • @coldasice5 was it awsome?

  • @lizweber14 it was MY FAVORITE SHOW EVER!!!! im seeing them three times this summer. gonna be great!

  • @coldasice5 haha I'm seeing them live next week!

  • I always thought it was about pollution..... But that's just how i see it.

  • How did you get pollution out of that?

  • "Though nothing will be broken when your house is made of stone, you know deep inside you it will never be a home."

    Those are powerful words.

  • Well the entire album is about religion.

  • but something tells me they are wrooooong

  • great band great song i saw them live:)

  • i agree with siouxfan599.

who cares about the meaning (religiously) just listen to the song!!!

  • Nah, with streetlight you shouldn't undermine the lyrics. Religiously, he just wants people to not worry so much about death and the after life. Just to live life.

  • .....this song always makes me feel more depressed than usual...but i still love it

  • What exactly is it about?

  • Life and death.

  • To live with one foot on the gas and one foot in the grave, is to live fast and perhaps die young.

I don't understand "Little miss dismissed, can't miss like a detuned radio..."

You just have to think about everything.

Think of it as a verbal puzzle, and the meaning is different for everyone, yet at the same time, its the same for everyone.

  • "Little miss dismissed, can't miss like a detuned radio..."

buy the actual album and you'll figure it out

  • Funny, I've had the actual album since it came out, idiot.

  • yo then read the booklet dipshit. Rude.

  • I don't have the booklet, :(. Either you called me a rudeboy or just rude? Sorry I called you an idiot.

  • oh ok yea it's all good, anyways he wrote in the booklet that he writes the lyrics after he creates the melody; while he's making music he just sings gibberish. And that particular line "little miss dismissed can't miss like a de-tuned radio" is a gibberish line he left in as a tribute to one of his favorite childhood bands

  • @Rjmorg I think this guy is driving drunk!

  • @Rjmorg Music is art everyone has their own perception of it

  • Just listen to the beat and roll with it.

  • I wish the drums were a little louder

  • i love how it starts off kind of soft, but fades into some serious ska, lol

  • 2nd part of the song = win

  • they never play this live when i see them

    its so great

  • Man I can't listen to this song enough. So good.

  • loooooooove this song!

    loooooooove this band!

  • i love this song. it makes perfect sense to me

  • lol, i have no idea what this song is about. anyone wanna help me out?

  • nope not in the mood right now

  • religion, its definatley against organized religion. hes not an atheist, but i guesse he has his doubts about god hence the album title somewhere in between :)

  • Who cares about the meaning, just listen to the music!

  • Comment removed

  • I often find the music is greatly reinforced by the meaning of the lyrics...

  • Yeah, that's true. Often the meaning will make or break an artist for me.

And I think the album is about just living for today, as in the album title song "so you were born, and that's a good day/so you will die, and that's a shame/but somewhere in the between is the life of which we all dream" I think it's about living between birth and death

  • could be true, and even the album art could be depicting a place between a godless hell and a perfect heaven.

  • i like to think of heaven as godless as well.

  • even hell is not godlesss, there is no place god is not, that's why when he died he broke down the gates of hell and walked in, he did it so that none of us had to be afraid of death but now, there is nothing to fear because even in hell god is there.

  • Hell is godless. That's what Hell represents: the absence of God. Hell is total separation from God's love. God is love. God does not exist in Hell. God basically made Hell as a place where you would NOT be with him AT ALL.

  • @Robocrat God doesn't exist. to quote Twain, nothing exists but you, and you are but a thought :)

  • @ManOutsideYourWindow god has legs? haha didn't know that one.

  • @ManOutsideYourWindow hhahahahahahahahhhahahahahahahahahahah so gay

  • @ManOutsideYourWindow

Yeah I'm not religious in the least bit but in Christian dogma evil is the absence of god.

Check out Paradise Lost, The Bible, The Quentis Silmarillion or The Lord of the Rings if you're interested in Christian mythology.

  • @EatMyPwn Haha "christian mythology" ...I like that, from now on thats what im calling everything in the bible!! oh, the jesus freaks are going to appriciate that.

  • Were I to hazard a guess, I'd say it's about mortality and salvation.

  • don't worry about it.

  • the lyrics are right there. so simple.

  • ooo, ur probably right. cause ragea is like first wave skka, and bab marley is the king of ragea =P. i never thought of that, lol

  • ha, this is my favorite band :D

  • lol, when they say what will you do when they come for you, it reminds me of bad boys. bad boys bad boys wacha gunna do? wacha gunna do when they come for you :-P

  • what do you do when they come for you :):):)

  • lol, only 5 comments to this amazing song..... now that ain't right...
