So what if they took music from metal bands? Didn't really stop it from being a great game and at least it helped the music get through to a whole new audience at that time.
Missing entry: Episode 3 Lvl 8's music was taken from the original song named, Sargent D & the S.O.D which was performed by Stormtroopers of Death (S.O.D).
i think it is so that when they made the game they wanted it to sound like heavy metal cuz after all isnt it heavy metal as violent as doom? so of course bobby prince was inspired by these popular and awesome songs, hey I even believe that someone at the doom team said : hey try make the song cool n badass like that metallica song u know ? and problalby they where like yeah ha ha that totally fits in to this level :D this makes sense cuz the developers grew up in the time of heavy metal :P
It wasn't stolen, it was inspired, and it was a kind of tribute to those bands. If they were stolen, don't you think ID or Prince would have been sued by now? It's perfectly legal to have similar rifs, and with good reason.
Besides, the doom songs sound better, it's a fact - get over it.
The composer, Bobby Prince, said in an interview that Romero gave him a stack of metal albums and asked him to make the DOOM soundtrack in that vein. If anything, Bobby Prince improved on them! >:D
Nice music, great game. So what they used the music of others.. they should be proud to have their music on the best shooting game ever. The thing I am worried about is the person who made the demo.... the gameplay is from an one year-old! God I owned this game.... the good old times.... ;) Ahhhh... DOOM2, Dune2, C&C, Warcraft, Settlers, Sokoban, Prince of Persia, Death Rally, Wacky Wheels, Need for Speed, Quake.....ahhhh many more.... Proud of DOOM
Regular People has pretty much no resemblance. And the Call of Kthulhu one is right, it has a similar chord progression, but the part you chose doesn't.
I recall reading somewhere that Robert "Bobby" Prince, the guy who did all the music for Doom and Doom II, had been trained as a legal advisor before getting into game design. They listened to a lot of Slayer, Pantera, etc. while making the games, so they decided to use some of the tracks as a basis for the ingame music. What I read stated that Bobby Prince "knew how much music he could use before it was considered plagiarism." He knew his legal boundaries. They used some music.
I dont believe that iD stole the music, just because they sound like those songs proves nothing, I am not denying that theyre are more than coincidental similarities to the music, but what exactly are you trying to prove with this video, because all you are doing is looking too far into it. Just enjoy the game if you like it, if you do not like the game, then piss off and stop trying to post crap about a legendary game.
it's just instrumental , anybody can do that ! You're looks like idiot with a video like this. Metal is good for doom and ID was inspired by metal songs.
FUCK !!! When I was riping in Doom 1 and 2 I was into Maidens and 80's metal. Than after years I feld i love with Pantera stuff but never refreshed Quake. Now I finaly know why I always put so high music from these 2 games. Fkn disgrase what ID did. just stole riffs.
Fuck its not inspiration - its too close. Its rip off.
Know why ID was never sued? Because no one gave a flying fuck if their stuff was used in MIDI format, it was pretty much free promotion for all these awesome songs, not to mention back then there was no such thing as torrenting or downloading music, people learned about some of these bands and songs through these tracks. Thus causing sales in actual cassettes or CDs, but you don't think that far back, do you?
Who cares if they stole it or not, still bad ass game. And thanks to those bands who inspired those who created such a bad ass game. And every other bad ass out there.
I'd have to agree with the majority of those comparisons. It doesn't bother me in the least. I'm sure if they were allowed they'd have had the real songs in there.
Sorry to say it, but here's an interesting fact, Robert Bobby Prince was formerly a lawyer, so he knew how much of the songs he could sample legally without gettign into trouble. Some of the soundtracks do indeed sound familiar, but they were not stolen. Sorry thomasriis1987, but your ignorance is astonding....
If he supposedly 'stole' the music, then how come id software haven't been sued for this?
What I want to know..... Did I become a metal head from playing too much Doom as a kid, or did I like Doom because it was freaken metal!!! I like the music from Doom so much I even put it on when playing DooM: The boardgame!!!
I landed on this video because I noticed similarities too, to me the most similar is crooked cross from slayer. the intro... guitar 1 then guitar 2 joins, then the drums and after that the main riff
so what if id whanted some great music in the game. and teckinacly it's not stolen its been remaid so it would fit the game better get your facts right!!
haha. the id guys basically handed a bunch of records to bobby prince and told him to make it sound like this. It always sounded like he did a damn good job ;)
All these songs are so badass!! Even if they ripped them off or something I still think its a good thing! I mean the music is good! Atleast compared with the clichecrap music the games has these day!

@GameOverBeats There is a difference between being inspired by and completely copying aka stealing music. If it was inspired by it, you could tell the influence but it would be an original song, where as here, its almost note for note the exact same song. I guess you could technically call the songs a remake, but still. The songs are QUITE clearly copies, in midi format, of the real songs. Its undeniable.
@Grishnoob Well do you know that iD in fact "stole" the music? Do you know for a fact that they didn't get permission from the copyright holders? @GameOverBeats For one, they changed the names of all of the songs. For two they never gave any mention of the original songs in the credits. nice didn't notice when i was a kid can tell now. i did a response on the same subject you should check it out if you get the chance its in you video responses above
the song for doom2 level 7 is not slayer at all, its actually the song "over the wall" by testament. listen for yourself and tell me if u agree. its at 1:56 in the song
I'm tired of all these retarded videos saying Doom stole various rock tracks for its game. You'd have to be a massive dumbass to realize that all music is build on the same damn notes, chords, and tempos so there are bound to be similarities across various tracks, genres, and different bands.
I just read your description, and are DOOM fans really bitching? It's a fact they BASED there songs of real life songs they enjoyed themselves, people need to grow up.

E3M8 isn't based off of Silent Scream. Silent Scream was already made for DOOM but wasn't used.

I'm tired of all these retarded videos saying Doom stole various rock tracks for its game. You'd have to be a massive dumbass to realize that all music is build on the same damn notes, chords, and tempos so there are bound to be similarities across various tracks, genres, and different bands.
