And you could even find yourself back there at anytime after. There is also the sand pits and two things I hated most. "Sugar Cookie" it's where..

He was a little on the "slow" side, which kept pissing off the DI. The thing that made the DI snap was when he found a doughnut in his foot locker. Because of this the DI blames everyone else because THEY failed to straighten him up. So because of his continual mistakes (which punished the recruits), everyone decided to get a little payback. Hence the hazing.
@PerfectDisasterWBC when i did my BCT in sep 99 they hit a guy with pool balls inside socks due to "messing up" and everyone paid for it, he ended up going AWAL and recycled.BCT now is a freaking joke.
I support my troops, but growing up in a military culture i do have a problem with it. I'm in shape, not only because I'm disciplined to do it? i have confidence to do it and i had guidance. Discpline is a necessary trait but many in the military uses it as a crutch. and yes some in the military like to diminish talent.
What casualties come from war? Friendly fire and IEDs. you need courage to focus with and that requies guidance. got to disassemble a bomb? you need your wits.
Some of the military is so fixated on negativity and discipline that you can't even communicate a simple matter to them. It's a large bureaucracy but come on.
Asians have the same issue. Heavy discipline, a high suicide rate and unnecessary accidents because you can't communicate through thick discipline protocol. The pressure is supposed to sharpen you, if it destroys someone you're doing it wrong.

@InsaneRequest It's not "Pile," it's "Pyle," mockingly nicknamed after Gomer Pyle, from the TV show. And Lawrence (aka Pyle) undoubtedly was drafted as the majority of the platoon was. This story-line took place in the 1960's, during the Vietnam war, when the draft was still in effect.

He was a little on the "slow" side, which kept pissing off the DI. The thing that made the DI snap was when he found a doughnut in his foot locker. Because of this the DI blames everyone else because THEY failed to straighten him up. So because of his continual mistakes (which punished the recruits), everyone decided to get a little payback. Hence the hazing.

I support my troops, but growing up in a military culture i do have a problem with it. I'm in shape, not only because I'm disciplined to do it? i have confidence to do it and i had guidance. Discpline is a necessary trait but many in the military uses it as a crutch. and yes some in the military like to diminish talent.
What casualties come from war? Friendly fire and IEDs. you need courage to focus with and that requies guidance. got to disassemble a bomb? you need your wits.

Some of the military is so fixated on negativity and discipline that you can't even communicate a simple matter to them. It's a large bureaucracy but come on.
Asians have the same issue. Heavy discipline, a high suicide rate and unnecessary accidents because you can't communicate through thick discipline protocol. The pressure is supposed to sharpen you, if it destroys someone you're doing it wrong.

Basic is NOT that hard anyone who military has heard this saying a thousand times but all it is is right place, righ time, right, uniform, right attitutde (or at least fake the attitude). Those who can't make it threw have most likely been pampered their whole lives and should not have attempted joining in the first place.

@OmNomNomNomNomNomism Even a movie "based on real events" is not necessarily accurate or even truthful. My father was in the Army. My older brother is in the Army. I lived near Ft. Bragg for many years. Now, I know this movie is about the Marines, but I can state with relative certainty this movie is not an accurate portrayal of a typical Marine bootcamp even during the Vietman Conflict. Any Marines out there that will verify or contradict my assertion?

@wmhoad My dad is a marine, and when we watched this he told us that his bootcamp was like this, and to be ready for it if we joined the Marines. I'm sure it's changed by now.

I find this scene odd since Private Joker would of seen Pile go for his weapon and walk to the Head. Unless Joker was sleeping while standing up, I can not see how this could of happened. Also where did he get the ammo with out being noticed as well? I have seen this movie over a dozen times, and as a former sailor I just dont see this happening. I know that this is just a movie, I just question this...

@XBrawnX Joker would have been trying to see what was happening without the Gunny finding anything out, never dreaming what would happen. In basic it was easy to pocket a few rounds every time we went to the range and there was always some numb nuts that thought it was cool to do so.

@SocTrangWarrior Indeed that is possible, but while in basic they counted everything, If i took any extra rounds at range I would of had my ass handed to me. My Division Commanders (NAVY) were just as mean, but minus the violence. We didnt sleep with out weapons though..they were locked up.

Because there are shifts and not everyone is immediatly asleep he could have gone between 1 of the shifts while joker is still barely awake or 2 gone while everyone was still awake and no one would have thought any different of it.
